Now? Not so much. Having a rowdy good time is not a new thing in 2022. It's always been there. You have the freedom to stay where you are. You also have the freedom to change your expectations and the brand. I dont think 20 years ago any of us would have been throwing deck chairs over the side of the ship and cursing the security. And in my 15+ cruises, I never saw fighting like I have recently. In July, the immigration officers were called to break up a fight in the luggage area. It was a full out brawl. Kids smoking pot and talking and laughing loudly outside of our cabin door at midnight? They just gathered on the floor in the hallway even though none of them were even staying in our area. Kids running down the halls at 3:00am jiggling door knobs of all the cabins? This is not just people having fun anymore. In September of this year, one woman threatened to use bear spray on another woman in the luggage hall at Pier 91. Thankfully, no bear spray was discharged, but the woman who made the threat was detained by CBP officers, and it caused a further delay in the disembarkation process. I would not be surprised if some folks missed flights due to this one passenger's actions.

OK, our past NCL cruises were on the Crown and the Epic, so I guess we did not see it because it was not there. (Probably would not have seen it on the Epic anyway if it was there because the ship was so huge.)

Do you know if anything was done to her after she was detained? I suppose she bought bear spray for Alaska, did not use it, and did not want to waste the purchase price.
Rare Ferry_Watcher Posted October 17, 2022 #84 Share Posted October 17, 2022 @ontheweb, I don't what happened afterwards. Guessing that since it was just a verbal threat that after awhile she was released - and hoping that she missed her flight. : ) Maybe her name is now in some sort of database, and she will have extra scrutiny when flying.. I do know that CBP called in one of the terminal's senior female security officers to do the pat-down. Hopefully, being held in the CBP office area scared her enough to never do anything so stupid again.

Pellaz Posted October 18, 2022 #89 Share Posted October 18, 2022 Just off the Horizon over the weekend and the only truly unpleasant behavior we saw was a group of 3-7 kids who tried to get into the Havana pool area at least twice, and also tried to cut in line at the Pizzeria one night. Security finally got called on the line-cutting incident and detained two of the kids. I doubt there was any sort of action taken, but OTOH I didn't see those kids again for the rest of the cruise either. 🙂

BobbiSox Posted October 19, 2022 #92 Share Posted October 19, 2022 I have seen a lot of bad behavior on Carnival, not all of it rowdy, for example the men who think it's appropriate to wear their pants half way down so the rest of us are forced to see their butt-cracks. I have over 500 days on Holland America, spanning twenty-five years, and have witnessed only one group of thugs. They were in a bar and loudly making fun of everyone. Holland America's solution was to close the bar, at 6:00pm. Later I saw on the news that this group made a habit of cruising and tormenting guests until they were finally escorted off another ship at a mid-cruise port. Anyislandwilldo Posted November 9, 2022 #97 Share Posted November 9, 2022 We did a 13 day journeys cruise in Feb one year. There were more walkers, canes and scooters on that cruise than in a nursing home. No violent behavior on that cruise!! LOL 1

Djptcp Posted November 10, 2022 #99 Share Posted November 10, 2022 Passengers who exhibit violent behavior likes fights that have happened on Carnival should be put off at the next port, a $500 fine just isn't enough. DH and I experienced a drunk passenger one evening in the smoking section outside who started yelling at us because we wouldn't talk to him. He had gone from people to people and everyone ignored him. I guess his anger issues had increased exponentially when he reached us. He was not only horribly foul in his language but he started toward us and threatened to throw DH over the railing! We were on our way to get security when he disappeared and we never saw him again. Terroristic threats are intolerable and, if found, he should have been put off the ship at the next port. There is so much violence and hate these days and we don't need more of it when on vacation. 2
