rocklinmom Posted July 28, 2023 #576 Share Posted July 28, 2023 https://www.princess.com/deckPlans.do?shipCode=SU If you go on the Princess website and go under Sun Princess then under Deck Plan, you can go on each deck and put a "3" or a "4" for number of guests in the little box and it will show cabins that sleep that many. So it appears that there will be double balcony cabins with sofas only that sleep 2, triples that sleep 3 where it is a sofa bed, and quads that sleep 4 with a sofa bed and a pull down bunk above it. If you are entering 3 guests for your booking the system will show you triple or quad cabins. 5
PH2 Posted July 28, 2023 #577 Share Posted July 28, 2023 Thanks for the info. I will check it out. When going through the booking system, I put in 3 people but the generic amenities list and footnotes for each cabin are vague enough to make me think I may or may not be reserving a cabin that will sleep 3 or 4. We have an adult and a teen booked as 3rd and 4 th and concerned about the sleeping situation.Any insight would be appreciated. As I stated above, I don't know about how the 3rd and 4th guests will be accommodated. My husband and I sail alone. However, if you want to know if the bed is by the bath or by the balcony you will have to look at the deck plans. The cabins are notched on one side. They interlock with the adjacent cabin. The bed takes up more room, so the jut out is where the bed is. The website pictures only show the bed by the balcony configuration. Princess isn't the only cruise line that does this. It saves room and allows for more cabins. I'm guessing that no one knows the dimensions of the cabins? The width would determine how spacious they are. I'm very curious to know more about the ship before I decide to book it.
Wishing on a star Posted July 28, 2023 #579 Share Posted July 28, 2023 (edited) Yes, ALL of these balcony cabins do have the sofa. So, yes, any of them can actually accomodate a third passenger. The only reason that some don't, is the ships capacity, and number of passengers in each area of the ship. Perhaps the number for each lifeboat station? If PH2 is going thru the booking system, having selected 3 passengers, then any cabin that is shown as available will work with three people. The ships max capacity would be less than the total number of beds and sofas onboard. I would guess that some cabins that accomodate three passengers will do so with the sofa. Some may have the pull-down berths. I do not know if PH2 would prefer to have their daughter on the sofa, or in a pull-down. If they prefer a pull-down berth, then a cabin that can accommodate 4 would probably have that. (or might they assume two passengers on a pull-out sofa?) We do not know if there will be a pull down over the sofa, or over the bed area. This could possibly differ, depending on which way the cabin is configured, with the bed in the entry area, or the bed next to the sliding glass balcony door. Perhaps all pull down berths in these balcony cabins are in the area just in front of the balcony? Maybe pics from other ships with this similar design could shed some insight on that? We might have to wait until people sail on the inaugural cruses to start to get these details. Edited July 28, 2023 by Wishing on a star
Rare dides Posted August 2, 2023 #580 Share Posted August 2, 2023 (edited) Really interesting new video from Adam Savage about some of the engineering challenges on Sun Princess - he has recorded footage from the shipyard looking at the Dome and the Spheres where the glass has to be able to flex! I believe it was filmed back in March at the time of the floatout so no real progress update but it does go into more geeky detail. kywildcatfanone Posted August 2, 2023 #583 Share Posted August 2, 2023 So is there going to be an adults only retreat area, or is that now just going to be an expanded sanctuary, since it seems the pool is inside the sanctuary proper?
SleeStack1 Posted August 2, 2023 #584 Share Posted August 2, 2023 (edited) I have several questions. Do (non Reserve) cabanas have access to the cabana deck? Non reserves are on higher decks from the cabana deck. Reserve Cabanas appear to have the casino beneath them. Will noise likely be an issue with these rooms? Anyone stay in a Princess room over a casino before and noticed the noise? Edited August 2, 2023 by SleeStack1

The Princess website makes this clear: Can't comment on the casino question - would avoid any staterooms above a public space! 2
Rare dides Posted August 8, 2023 #586 Share Posted August 8, 2023 The next engineering focussed video from Adam Savage on Sun Princess has been released - Adam geeks out underneath the ship before the float out in March; looking at the 'nose', thrusters, wave reduction, ballast, air lubrication compressors, stabiliser wings and some impressive looking propellers. 3

Wishing on a star Posted August 10, 2023 #593 Share Posted August 10, 2023 Loving the new pics! Seems like there isn't a lot of posting from those who have the Sun booked for next year? We had booked Europe for next Spring, But, decided that it just wouldn't work out.

We currently have B2B's booked on her for October/November of 2024 and January of 2025 when she will be in the Caribbean. Very excited and looking forward to be on the new jewel of the line. Will be booking on her again or possibly her sister ship the Star when Caribbean bookings open up for November of 2025.

snoozecrooze Posted August 10, 2023 #597 Share Posted August 10, 2023 (edited) Hi @vividharp. I'm no longer seeing the pictures load as well, but I did see them earlier today. Thank you @dides for sharing anyways! I'll try my best to give a workaround. Stewart Chiron posted all of these photos on his Twitter but Twitter now makes you sign up or log in to view a profile and its recent posts, so I'm going to link to his posts individually and that should allow you to get around this sort-of-but-not-really "paywall". Let me know if they do not work.
