A Silver Shadow Over The World - December 2023 to May 2024

For those interested in the recently added port Haines, Alaska, here is some information from http://whatsinport.com.

"Most cruise ships pull up to the Port Chilkoot dock at the foot of
historic Fort Seward, a few blocks south of the town center. Some
smaller cruise ships dock at the Fast Ferry dock, a block south of the
Port Chilkoot dock.

Both docks are within (up hill)walking distance of most of the town's
main attractions.

On those rare occasions when more than one ship is in port,
passengers may be tendered to the dock in smaller craft.

During cruise ship dockings, there is a Shuttle Bus service that runs
every 30 minutes. It starts at the Port Chilkoot Dock, and makes a
loop to the Sheldon Museum, Visitor Center, Library, Dalton City,
Eagle Foundation, Fort Seward Historic District, and then back to the
Dock.

Haines is situated on a spit of land on the west side of the Lynn Canal
along one of the deepest fjords in the Inside Passage. It is one of only
three ports in southeast Alaska with access to Alaskan roads. As a
result, Haines is a busy place in the summer. Many vacationers (and
their vehicles) ride a ferry to Haines and head up the Haines Highway
to the USA Highway into northwestern Canada and the interior.
Other visitors arrive by cruise ship. In warm-weather months, the
town's population swells considerably.

Popular shore excursions include tours of the town and surrounding
sights by van or bicycle, river-rafting through the Chilkat Bald Eagle
Preserve, kayaking in the area fjords (Lutak and Taiya inlets), hiking
in the rain forest and flight seeing trips to nearby glaciers.
Charter boats offer saltwater fishing, and several outfits guide hunting
trips.

There is a fast ferry from Haines to Skagway.

Hurrah!!!

Lola

Thank you Lola!  This has been a bit of a nail-biter!  I'm a bit of a Nervous Nelly.   That's part of the reason that I spend a lot of time planning.   Of course, all the planning in the world doesn't help when things are out of your control.  I am definitely more comfortable now! 😁

All that, and what you shipped ahead? Are you moving in? 😉

Is moving in such a bad idea?  😅  I'm taking a few pages out of Stumbles' book.  😅  I'd love to follow the Book of JP.  However,  I'm not as savvy as you are!  And at this point I wish I was! 😒

Everyone else on the ship will be glad that you are not planning to live for 6 months out of a backpack!  😅

They sent it early because we are flying out tomorrow.

They did presentations like this for the 2016 and the 2019.  We were told they weren't doing it for 2024.  Surprise!

Late update.....we arrived in Bridgetown at about 3:00 pm.  Some snags along the way.  However,  the Fast Track in Bridgetown was wonderful.   There were at least 2 flights arriving at the same time.   We were waiting for our luggage within 15 minutes.   We had a private transfer to Sam Lord's Castle.  The spot is beautiful and staff are eager to please.

So - another 'trip of a lifetime' begins !  Start as you mean to go on, Mysty and Myster, with a few rum punches to relax with.  You will be totally laid back by the time you get to board the ship.

Bonnes vacances,

Lola

Thank you Lola!  🥰
