Edit: I recently started looking at different higher end lines as we are planning a Med cruise for 2024. Celebrity’s pricing for a sky suite for 10 nights is just over 11k. We compared this to Viking, which is also mostly inclusive but no casino. According to some on the Viking scene, they are too “refined” for casinos. I like high quality and will pay a fair amount to get it, but I’m not looking for pretentious cruising and I got the feeling that DH and I aren’t refined enough for Viking. Plus, they want final payment about a year in advance. I get that your post is about Virgin not Viking, but I wonder how they all compare at that price point… guess I need to do some more research. JOVERNITE Posted January 12, 2023 #7 Share Posted January 12, 2023 We've been looking into Virgin as well. We didn't get the day pass for Virgin's Beach Club in Bimini on our Feb 2022 Equinox sailing & chose to explore the island on foot. The people of Bimini are so kind. Virgin cruises seem elevated from X.
cbfb Posted January 12, 2023 #8 Share Posted January 12, 2023 I believe, but could be wrong, that Virgin does not include drink package. My son and his husband are doing a 5 night Virgin cruise and then continuing on the Silhouette with us in February. I’m looking forward to hearing the comparison.

Guest 4-2-N-8 Posted January 12, 2023 #11 Share Posted January 12, 2023 (edited) There is an anesthetic that is designed for a given demographic to which being sold. Carnival to Regent, all do the same thing. Pricing is a mathematical computation to do a few things at once, not least of which is to earn revenue. I'm soon trying the Retreat, Edge class. To me, a home run. The color schemes, design, and amenities are awesome. Privacy and security, I like it. I have the luxury of choosing most anything. Price is not a determining factor for me. Wouldn't touch Virgin. Don't like the color palette, the design, the "vibe," nor the demographic, which I recognize they seek. Also Wouldn't touch MSC YC for similar reason. Small luxury ships are incredible, but the world has variety. I hope in person that Celebrity can pull this off and is as good as it looks on paper. Just don't chair hog on me, bro. Been on the Apex, don’t like as much as S or M class ship, book the Spring Reflection TA and Conny Fall TA after being on the Apex but everyone is different , you might think E class is great
SbbquilterUT Posted January 12, 2023 #13 Share Posted January 12, 2023 There are many good videos on Virgin cruises. New and shiny with innovative ideas in design. Food is reported to be very good. For me many of the furniture designs are very low seating - problematic for more senior sailors but we are not their target demographic. We have several friends who cruised on Viking and had a great time, none of them are remotely pretentious.

We did a Viking Ocean cruise last year and did not find it at all pretentious. Food and service were wonderful. Their version of French Onion Soup was the best I've ever had. Little touches such as the heated bathroom floor were lovely. We are just plain folks, and I had been concerned about feeling "less than," but we never felt that way at all. 4

You should consider taking a look at Oceania Med cruises. I have been looking and just recently booked a 7 day Med cruise, May 2023 and it was $4k LESS than Celebrity. I love Celebrity but cannot justify such a big $$ difference as such I will shop around always for comparison, at least on the ships I know I'm willing to cruise on. 1

hawkesbaynz Posted January 12, 2023 #17 Share Posted January 12, 2023 I am keen to try the Virgin product. Some of Branson's Virgin branded products have been poor but the cruise line seems to have been well thought out. Particularly like adult-only, no MDRs, reasonably priced drinks (I do not need a paid for beverage package). Hopefully will expand their itineraries as a bit limited at the moment. Virgin have offered cruises in exchange for virgin points. Last summer I believe about 120,000 and are still offering short cruises ex-Miami for less points. We have about 180,000 and no desire to fly to the USA so hoping there is an offer this Summer so we can try it out. I will pay for a cruise otherwise but love a deal. Viking cruises? Starts with a V but a different animal to Virgin cruises. An older demographic and much more expensive. Will give it a try one day.

kwokpot Posted January 12, 2023 #22 Share Posted January 12, 2023 Going on my second Virgin cruise this Saturday. It's a great line, my only beef with it are the cabins below the suites. They pale in comparison to the Edge Class cabins. Not enough storage and although modern looking they resemble a college dorm room decorated with stuff from Target. 3 1
Jeremiah1212 Posted January 12, 2023 #23 Share Posted January 12, 2023 I've now been on two VV sailings. In my opinion there is very little overlap between people who would enjoy both cruise lines. Among this little Celebrity cruise critic group, I would say there is even less overlap. FWIW I am not quite 40 (yet!). VV definitely nailed being different. To me the dining all feels like you're in a fast casual restaurant. Food may be good, but to me the experience almost leans more Carnival where people are just looking for consumption food and not a meal. However there are a lot of options. The main pool is tiny. Tiny. This was supposedly intentional and offset by long port times but on a Caribbean route the port times not substantially different than what anyone else offers. Entertainment is also different. I hate having to make reservations for any cruise show. There is one show that is semi-traditional song and dance. If you had issue with the original iteration of Eden on Edge class, you probably won't like any of the shows on VV. Cabin design is whatever you make of it. Some love it. Some don't. There are a few shows and event where you may get a free drink, but do not expect any bargains on drink prices. Beers are $5-8, martinis can easily be in the $15 range, wine and bubbles are similar to menu prices on Celebrity. Regular long drinks are in the $10 range. Drip coffee is included however espresso drinks are not. Those will cost you another $4-6 depending on what you want. 12 hours ago, SbbquilterUT said: For me many of the furniture designs are very low seating - problematic for more senior sailors but we are not their target demographic. This seems to be something made up on Cruise Critic. You aren't going to find any plush recliners or Queen Anne armchairs, but the seating is perfectly fine. Similar to Edge class, there are probably hundreds of styles of seating arrangements to choose throughout the ship. 4 minutes ago, AnnaNicole said: Add specialty dining too. They don't call it speciality dining because there is no extra charge, but to be honest, it's really not that special at all. 2

scaught Posted January 12, 2023 #25 Share Posted January 12, 2023 I've done two virgin cruises, we go on a celebrity cruise next month. I think the food is generally better, but not all of it is great (the steakhouse can't cook a steak to save their lives, some of the "buffet" options are kinda lacking). No drink package, but the bar tab deals are decent at covering that. The no kid factor is incomparable. I also just love the vibe on the ship in general. Employees seem happier.
