Is dry dock still scheduled? Cruises are still listed on the website.

I have no idea.  At some stage there would have been a gap in the sailing schedule, but that is now filled with sailings.  It certainly would appear that the dry dock has been 'deferred'.

Thanks so much for keeping track of all this.  This is great information.

My wife and I are scheduled for a TA on the Nieuw Statendam from Rome to Fort Lauderdale, leaving Nov 26, 2023.  This is the very first cruise after, what appears to be, the first dry dock for the Nieuw Statendam.  Should we be excited to have a refreshened ship or worried about the risk of unexpected changes in schedule that my occur, or both?

if you go to booking page it mentions Zaandam

Olivia Cruises

Thanks.  That is a newly published charter.  Olivia have Nieuw Amsterdam chartered for the coming two weeks and they are sold out.  Make sense to have another cruise available for the happy cruisers to flash their credit cards at.

Thank you for posting this important information.

Do you know anything about the "Road Scholar' groups?

When I've been with them [old name was Elderhostel] Groups were pretty small. Less than 50 people and usually closer to 25. We would take up one meeting room in the morning on sea days and have our own excursions at the ports.

The biggest group I was ever a part of was on a riverboat in Europe - 16 days, 36 participants and 3 instructors/guides. If they have a big group they will usually charter a riverboat, expedition-type ship, or airplane. I'm talking 80-150 participants. That's been my experience. They usually have the early mealtime in the MDR.

If I can answer any specific questions, let me know. I'm not quite active enough for them anymore - mobility challenged.

I was on the Nieuw Statendam last August and November (2022).  I thought it was in great shape.  The future cruise consultant verified it was going into dry dock and while I was on my cruise in November there were people around the ship measuring things.  I asked them about it and they said they were looking at possible changes and improvements to the ship.  For example - in November the old computer room where they taught classes still had desks in the room - no computers.  The Cruise Director said they would be putting a library in that space like the Rotterdam has.  It isn't the wonderful library they used to have on the Prinsendam but they had recent release books and several copies of each.  That was either on deck 2 I think - can't remember but it was forward near the elevators.  My traveling buddies read lots of the books from the library on the Rotterdam in November 2021.  I think the dry dock will be a improvement of what is there.  I found the artwork on the NS to be a bit odd - not as nice as the Rotterdam....  But I'm sure it will be a wonderful trip!

Thanks so much for the very interesting and informative response.  For a 14-day TA cruise, having the expanded library would certainly be a great thing to have.  We will be in Club Orange, so it will be interesting to see if the modify the Club Orange dining room to be more like that on the Rotterdam.

I will make sure and ask around while on the ship to see what all has been modified or added and report back.
