Foods on cruises that you never ate before

Before I started cruising on ships that actually had a variety of foods available(!), I had only occasionally had an Indian dish at one restaurant or another.

Now, on ships, I regularly have Indian dishes at breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  Sometimes things are on the menu or in the buffet, and sometimes an Indian chef or waiter will notice that I ordered vegetarian dishes, and ask if I'd like some Indian food as well.  Yes, I would!

Apart from that, I've been able to try lots of desserts I never have at home (or even heard of), as well as some soups that are not normally on my radar.  Variety is good!

The best calamari I ever ate was in a Bay Ridge Brooklyn restaurant in 1998.

Good Calamari is Randazzo's Sheephead Bay.  Also Chadwicks Bay Ridge w Fried Stick type Zucchini w three sauces.

Perhaps if it was an ethnic dish that you were not previously familiar with.

Definitely!  I am pretty familiar with most of the cuisines that cruise lines typically serve, but there is always more to learn.

No, it’s not.  Cruise food is generally good but mainly standard.   Perhaps you have some examples in mind.

I was on a cruise where every evening in the MDR they featured food from different ethnicities. One night was Italian, followed by French ,etc.

My ethnicity is Polish .If a person is not of this ethnicity it is not likely that they would be familiar with the items on the menu,

Polish also and never saw Polish offered on board.

I don't think I should expect Polish on a UK vessel.
