Até Posted February 5, 2023 #2 Share Posted February 5, 2023 Wrist bands are only available on newer ships, Meraviglia and later. Aurea and Yacht Club experiences get wrist bands and regular cards. Bella and Fantastica experiences can purchase the wrist bands for a nominal fee.
doones2 Posted February 5, 2023 Author #3 Share Posted February 5, 2023 I will be on World Europa. I think I would prefer the wrist band. What would be good reasons to not have the wrist band?
Até Posted February 5, 2023 #4 Share Posted February 5, 2023 Personally I dislike the wrist band just for physical reasons, my partner prefers it. You'll need the card anyways for getting on and off the ship. If you keep forgetting your card in the slot near your cabin door your cabin steward will get frustrated thinking you are always in the cabin. If it bothers you, supposedly they track the wrist bands as you move around the ship (not sure how/if the RFI technology differs from what is in the cards). I'm not referring to the other covid contact tracing bracelets.

We were unable to purchase wrist bands. The reason customer services gave was that it is “better for the environment” so they did away with wrist bands. We loved the wrist bands in 2019 on both Meraviglia and Seaside. I hope we can purchase them on Seascape in March - Fantastica again… Will report on my live review at that time.
eagletwo Posted February 6, 2023 #6 Share Posted February 6, 2023 We were told by the Meraviglia hotel manager the wristbands cost $15 each to make. Not worth it to produce them for the entire ship outside the Yacht Club. 1

The cruise cards themselves are still RFID on the smart ships. All MSC blank cruise cards are pre-punched so folks won’t ruin the RFID. Happy New Cruiser Posted September 8 #12 Share Posted September 8 Do children outside of the YC receive wrist bands? I thought I read somewhere that children receive wrist bands at the kids club. Are these the same type?
DorothyB Posted September 8 #13 Share Posted September 8 I'm confused by the wrist bands also. I think Aurea gets them at no charge and Bella & Fantastica can get them for $10 (??) in the photo shop. . . ???
Rare Essiesmom Posted September 8 #14 Share Posted September 8 The wrist bands required for children are a safety issue and have nothing to do with the other wristbands. The wristbands are only free to Yacht Club. All others, including Aurea, pay $10 each. They can be reused if you sail on the same ship in a cabin in the same muster station. I did a 4/3 B2B on Seaside, in two different Aurea cabins. I was just moving three doors aft and they reprogrammed my bracelet. EM

EM This has got me wanting to take some of the 'tools' i used when I was working and see if I can clone a key card and or wristband to a spare keycard I have .. might prove to be an interesting experience. Then again, I could always wait until I got home to see what I could do with the card and wrist band and not have to carry around a lot of extra electronic tools. Correct, you swipe your RFID card in their scanner, swipe your credit card, and they mail you a new new RFID card with the same programming a couple days later. People have done it with their security accesses badges where I work.

Some of the cards we 'worked with' employed encryption. This made them a lot more of a challenge. I have a collection of about 50 old keycards that I can duplicate but have not been able to get all the data from due to encryption. Every once in a while, I will break them out and give it another go at trying to get personal data from them.
