No more omelette tickets in the buffet

If very limited table space is available, after we find a table one of us will sit while the other one gets their food.  You still need to make a trip to get your drinks.   With a number of open tables,  we will drop off our drinks/bags and both go for food.  Don't see that is at all the same as someone   putting towels/ books in a lounger at 6:30am and them finally going back to sit down at 9:00am or later..

I don't believe that one should try to" reserve tables" by leaving belongs on the table.  Sort of reminds me of reserving lounges near the pool.

There is a vast difference between the two examples. We "reserve" a table prior to going to the buffet, so that we are not wandering around with hot food,  trying to find somewhere to sit. The table is actually reserved and unoccupied for a maximum of 5 minutes.

You cannot compare that to someone reserving a lounger,  possibly at 7am, and not actually using it until three or four hours later.

I promise not to hold it for more than 30 minutes. 😙

Should one reserve tables by leaving "belongs" while they get food.  Then again, should one reserve a pool lounge by leaving belongs, and should one then reserve seats in the theatre.

I for one have and would never do this.

You can certainly "reserve" a lounger for up to 30 minutes while you get your drinks, use the facilities, etc.  It's when you "reserve" a lounger then disappear for hours.  Saving a table while one gets their food is no different than one sit there while their partner gets their food. As long as they are getting food.  Nice to know you do not do that including leaving someone to "protect" your table.

Without trays there is no easy way to serve yourself everything and carry it to a table at once for many people. I usually put drinks down first, then get food.

Personally, and this is just me, I have no problem with leaving a beverage, although in many cases, the waiter may actually pick it up and clean the table if nobody is sitting there..

However,  I do find it discourteous to see individuals leave a hat, other piece of clothing, or even tip the seats to indicate that they have the table while they leave, often for a considerable period of time, to select their food.

I have seen this practice to be a lot more common on Celebrity then on Princess.

Chairs are tipped quite often when we are at the Princes buffet for breakfast and lunch.  Dinner buffet is usually not busy at all.  See no problem with leaving our Kindle, iPad or the Princess canvas bag.at our table.  Takes us no longer than 5 minutes to get our food.

What about people who eat by themselves? Who protects the table while you get the food?

We get our food and then find a table. It's not difficult to carry a single plate - which is all we need. I tend to stick the rolled napkin with the tableware into my shirt pocket so I don't have to carry it in my hands. These days a server always comes around asking if we want a drink and they bring us coffee and juice. We have never failed to find a place to sit to eat.

We tend to find a table then one of us waits while the other goes and gets their food. I don’t like this method because sometimes the other is almost finished by the time the second one gets back with their food. I think I’d rather leave personal items to reserve the table. Better and we both get to eat hot food

Indeed, and some people have no problem leaving some piece of clothing on a deck chair near the pool, and individuals have no problem trying to reserve a row of seats in the theater.

Princess already makes several announcements about reserving rows of seats in the theater before shows begin and pool chair hogs are aware of not "reserving" loungers way before they decide to make their way to the pool area. But entitled cruisers will never stop doing this..   When and if Princess ever  begins to make announcements before meal times in the buffet to not tip chairs or place items on chairs or leave your bags on tables before you go to get your food, we will be the first ones to comply with their request/suggestion.

Sometimes I wonder why the buffet is treated differently than any other ship restaurant. Why is there not someone to greet you at the door and escort you to a table? Should at least be that way during crowded hours.

Because it's open seating, I suppose.

Just because Princess does not make "announcements" does not mean that this is correct.

Celebrity used to have designated individuals take your tray and help you find a table.  But that type of service went the way of so many others in an effort to cut costs.
