Sail & Sign card question

It's been since 2015 since I have cruised and my husband and I are going on the Celebration next month.  When I cruised before, when you checked in on line, you added your credit card you were going use for your sail & sign then. When you got to the port, they gave you your s&s cards then to use.   If you wanted to add cash, you would just go to guest services to do that.  I read a post yesterday on a different site that said their sail & sign cards were put in their mail boxes outside their doors and apparently someone stole her aunt's cards and used them to spend  money in the casino and also bought drinks with it.  So my question is do we get our s&s cards before we board? Or will they be in an envelope outside our room? How do you get a drink if you don't have your s&s card? Thanks!

It is VERY rare that a S&S card will be taken.  They are in tamper-proof envelopes.  It is more likely that someone else used the "aunt's" folio number in error.

The S&S cards will be in the mail slot at your room only when the rooms are ready.  Until that time, servers can scan the barcode on your boarding pass to charge items to your account.

You can still add a credit card when you check in online, or add cash when you arrive, or any combination.  There are now kiosks available to add cash to your account so that you don't have to stand in line at GS.

you can use cash or your sail and sign card in the casino.  when you download money from your sail and sign account at the slot machines they do not charge a service fee.  At the tables they charge a 3% fee.

This story about money being used in casino sounds rather fishy. Casinos don't open for several hours after boarding and the card would have been discovered missing long before that and replaced. Also your picture comes up at the register when you go to make any purchase, so unless the person who stole it is the aunt's evil doppelganger it seems unlikely.

Yes, your card will be in your mailbox, but I have never heard of anyone having their card used in this manner before they get it. There was much speculation when this process started that this would happen, but I have never heard a credible example and this has been in place for several years now.

Well, there's your problem.  Anyone can say anything.  "I saw the Loch Ness Monster playing the slots while we were still in port!  That's not allowed!"

The only things you can buy in the casino before it gets to international waters are drinks, as far as I know.

I understand what you are saying.  I was actually just confirming our cards would not be given to us at check in.

Yes, it’s been the last couple years they have been in the mailbox outside your room. I saw that video and I don’t understand how charges could have happened…. Especially at the casino. To add money to a machine you have to input month and year of birth. There is no way someone could have taken the cards and known that info. And your picture comes up on the screen when they swipe your card, so what are the odds they looked like that womans aunt?

I agree.  If tried using someone else's card in a slot machine they would need to know their birth date I believe.

Plus to get the cash off of the players bank they have to present the card at the cashiers cage and they will swipe it and see the picture.  Same if trying to get chips at the tables.  No way the card was used in the casino.

Yep, which is why, even if someone who didn't know that about the photo showing up on the point-of-sale register swiped the cards, their spending spree would end pretty quickly.  And hopefully, with a call to Security.

I was on a Royal cruise in February and I noticed that, as far as I could tell, your photo does NOT show on their sales registers when you make a purchase.  😮

Rooms will not be open until at least 1PM (on Royal, not sure about Carnival as I haven't cruised them in 5 years but will be cruising with them next year) and you'll get your cards once you arrive at your room.  I've never had my card stolen.  Some lines (again, not sure about Carnival) will allow you to purchase drinks before you get to your room provided you bring your printed confirmation with you.

It was a tiktok video

Ah, the other platform of mis-information.  Almost nothing posted as a "true story" is true on that platform, from what I gather.  It seems to be a place that attracts those that demand self-actualization through attention, at any cost.

If someone posted that water was wet and the sun would rise tomorrow, I'd suddenly have suspicions...

Understood.  I'm just yelling at a cloud, in essence, about the silliness of taking anything you see online seriously, especially from platforms like that, but really any source, even official newspaper/media sites, should be questioned if it sounds outlandish.
