good afternoon all.  Thank you Sandi for the Sunday Daily.

I am very late to the party today. Exhausted & stuck in slow motion and way behind.

I just wanted to drop in and let @dfish,

@mamaofami & @NextOne know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Have a good Sunday everyone!

Good morning and Happy Sunday. I’ll celebrate all the days, even poultry, although I don’t enjoy it as much as most of you do. I’ll pass on the drink and wine.

DGD is here and made us dessert last night.  A strawberry and blueberry sauce in shortcake shells. There was sauce everywhere but it was yummy.

I have made a version of today’s meal. It’s actually easier than regular lasagna. I have a veggie recipe that is good.

After the discussion yesterday about the port Corinto, Nicaragua, I have mixed feelings about the excursion I decided to take there. I’m going to rethink my plans. I wouldn’t mind just staying on the ship.

Have a great day everyone!

If my Dad was living he would have been 100 years old today.  His brother would have been 102.  (Yes, they were born on the same day, 2 years apart.).

Both of these men had wonderful senses of humor and were always making people laugh.

How appropriate that their birthday is “Let’s Laugh Day!”

Miss you Dad!  Miss you Uncle Joe!  I know you are laughing, and making others laugh, in heaven!

Good morning. A bit late today. I got up fine at 7, shower and shampoo.... took dogs out and fed them, ate breakfast .... loaded up some laundry and went back to bed. I am still feeling the whatever it was I had. Today will be slow and easy. I am sleeping well at night. A friend of mine who evidently had the same thing several weeks earlier tells me she is just getting back to normal.

I guess winter is not done with us if the forecast is to be believed. And last night at 10 when the dogs went out for their final call of nature, it was snowing!!. Not much fortunately. But next week looks a bit dicey all week long.

Love all the pictures today. Makes me want to get up and go (well, sort of).

Hope everyone is managing to stay well.

Susan

Today is a cold (38F) and blustery day. I had to retrieve the recycling bin from the neighbor's yard when I got home from church. I'm SO ready for Spring to arrive tomorrow!

So here's a very first world problem - my car has been taken prisoner by my garage! Thursday I went to take my car out of the garage and the door opener wouldn't work. Checked to make sure the circuit breaker wasn't thrown - nope! Tried to pull the red cord and pull the handle for the emergency door release - nope. DS tried it, too - nope. Would the remote work? Nope - it clicks but nothing happens. We finally determined that after 37 years, the unit is done. Luckily, DS works from home so I could use his car. This afternoon the repairman is scheduled to come and replace the unit - Freedom!

Lenda @Quartzsite Cruiser thanks for your photos taken from your Cairns visit.  The Four Mile Beach looks great from that scenic view point.

However, the Bally Hooley Scenic Railway is a different one from the Kuranda Scenic Railway.  The passenger cars are totally different.  The Port Douglas train only went from the Marina to St. Crispins Lake and Mossman not a long distance like the Kuranda Scenic Railway does. I rode on the Kuranda Scenic Railway from Kuranda and back to the Freshwater station on the outskirts of Cairns.

I have read that two of the steam locomotives in Port Douglas have recently undergone renovation to be used as a restaurant.  I'm not sure why one of the Bally Hooley engines was on dispay at the Kuranda Railway site but like you said, that was in 2002. This recent Tripadvisor review explains a bit about what's going on there.

Nov 2022
I was curious about the two old steam engines parked adjacent the marina. It seems that the engines, Nelson and Speedy and their carriages have arrived at their final destination. In their heyday, both engines transported freight and passengers from the sugar-cane mills before becoming a tourist ride between Mossman and Port Douglas and later, St Crispins and the Marina. Like many other businesses across the country, Covid interfered and now the carriages have been repurposed as dining carriages at Choo Choo's. Still worth a look if nostalgic for the age of steam.

Sandi, thanks for the information.  When I googled rail road Port Douglas this morning, the only thing that came up was the Kuranda Scenic Railway.

Good afternoon from a blustery day in SE Wi.  Not much going on here today, except more basketball.  Glad that the Wisconsin Badgers won.  Now to watch the Marquette game.  We're going to DD and DSIL's house for corned beef and cabbage.  DSIL cooks with lots of butter, so everything tastes better at their house.  The lasagna rolls look good today.  @dfish@mamaofami good luck with your surgeries this week.  Thanks for all of the pictures and Meme's today...I am traveling through all of you reading the Daily thread!  Karen

Good Afternoon from a very cool and cloudy day at the beach

We were in Port Douglas on our last trip. We actually docked in Cairns but even though we were docked there were only steps to get off the ship  so DD could not get off.  The port only had one ramp and that was given to the Princess Ship. No one on our ship with mobility issues could get off. DS and myself took the shuttle to Port Douglas. Great day. Beautiful drive .

We were walking along the beach when we saw the sign, we quickly left!

Good afternoon,

It is a late posting but I have been up since 0600. I just wanted to drop by and express how much I love my hands free can opener! Thanks to all who suggested it before my surgery. I made three bean chili today and had several cans to open. I am happy to say this thread is great for more than just cruising. Just 4 more days until the cast comes off. I have 6 weeks to get it in shape before my NS cruise in May.

Blessings to all in need on this Sunday.

We were in Cairns once in 2002 on the Asia Pacific Explorer Cruise (APEC) on the Volendam.  As per our usual habit, we rented a car.  We drove north to Kuranda and then further north to Port Douglas.  Many of my pictures are of the rainforest and streams, but there are a few from each stop.  I will omit my very few pictures of Cairns.

These are from our drive to Kuranda through the rainforest.  Barron Falls was dry in 2002, so they must not have had much rain.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, I looked up the rail road you mentioned.  It is the Kuranda Scenic Railway which runs from Cairns to Kuranda.  The trip is 1 hour 55 minutes one way.   One of the older engines on display in Kuranda was the Bally Hooley.

Good afternoon, Dailyites. We are just back from church and then breakfast with my cousin and her DH at the golf club - we talked a lot!  Next Sunday I don't know if we'll see them, as they are celebrating a grandson's birthday and it will probably be an all day affair.  And then on the Monday we leave for Fort Lauderdale (fingers crossed).   I plan to "request-a-wave" from the PTZ webcammers, Lou and Dave, for our sailaway on the 29th on the Rotterdam.  Hoping Tony and Martha will join us.  So be on the lookout!

We haven't been to Kangaroo Island, but we spent a month in Australia in 2010 on a flying-driving-training holiday and visited DSIL and her family in Perth, and friends in Sydney and Brisbane.  From Perth we flew to Cairns and drove to Port Douglas for a few days.  We did a boat tour to the Great Barrier Reef, but I enjoyed the Kuranda train even more another day.  We went to the bird sanctuary in Kuranda and there you could buy a little bag of goodies for the birds.  They were all so tame and lovely, they would stick their heads right into the bags and pull out the treat they wanted.  Of course the cookies went first!

Someone on Tripadvisor, I think, said to be sure to get first class tickets for the train, so we did, and it was amazing, we were plied with food and drink in a very comfortable cabin with only about 6 people!  The rest of the passengers were crowded into open carriages on wooden benches three deep on either side.   We took the Skytrain back down.  We did visit the beach, but were deterred by the thought of the jellyfish.

I'm happy to see several people here have been to Port Douglas!  Thanks all for your photos!  I just thought we should have another option since we had just posted Penneshaw's photos on Tuesday.  Lord, the alligators and jellyfish are quite a problem!  I'm glad I didn't run into any gators!  And no wonder I don't see many photos of swimmers at that beach.  Haha!

Good news about Tina @0106 standing in for you Debbie.  Happy birthday to all the DD Dads today, and nice that they all had a great sense of humor.😇😇😇

Update on the garage fix -- it took a while for the repairman to even get the door open to release the car, so the actual fix will happen tomorrow afternoon. But the car, aka "Trixie the Traveler" is free to roll, although she'll have to suffer the indignity of sitting outside tonight - lol!

Hello to all,

Sorry I am so late to the game.

Thank you to Sandi, Vanessa, Dixie, Ann and Debbie for all your hard work to keep this thread going.

I have been very tired and trying to get so many things done.  I an trying to post and sometimes it’s just the end of the day and I realize I have not gotten here yet.

Tomorrow the workers are back.  Oh, how i long for the day when they all leave and I never see them again.

It appears that DH survived the fall okay.  Tomorrow he has a doctor’s appt. And I am going to try to go with him to make sure the doc hears all the things that need to be heard.  DH will not tell him, whether he just doesn’t want to tell him or he will forget.

Debbie, Carol and @NextOne Prayers for successful surgeries.

Hope all have a good day.

God Bless,

Terri

Good afternoon, which turned out to be a beautiful, but chilly afternoon.   We took advantage of the sunny day, and took the convertible (top up) out for a spin.  We even found a road we either hadn't be on or forgot we'd driven it years ago.

Update on the garage fix -- it took a while for the repairman to even get the door open to release the car, so the actual fix will happen tomorrow afternoon. But the car, aka "Trixie the Traveler" is free to roll, although she'll have to suffer the indignity of sitting outside tonight - lol!

Glad the car was freed.

God Bless,

Terri

Terri, I'm glad you DH was not hurt in the fall.  I hope you get to go in with him tomorrow.

Lenda

For your dad too Debbie.

He looks like a great character.

Like everyone else I will be hoping your surgery is successful and your recovery is quick and complete.

Graham x.

Thank you, Graham.  Yes, he was a character.

Feisty he was!   Isn't it wonderful that Tina @0106 is willing to do this?  That is one of the wonderful things about the Daily.  We support each other!
