JessLCH Posted March 31, 2023 #1 Share Posted March 31, 2023 Been a while since I cruised out of NYC. Is $5 per bag about what is expected when I hand off my bags to bag handlers at the cruise pier?? More? Less?
complawyer Posted March 31, 2023 #2 Share Posted March 31, 2023 i usually give them 10-15 regardless of the port from which we're sailing

UKstages Posted March 31, 2023 #4 Share Posted March 31, 2023 (edited) $5 would be the minimum per bag, i would think. tip less, only if you don't care if you'll ever see your bag again. 6 minutes ago, complawyer said: i usually give them 10-15 regardless of the port from which we're sailing you tip $10-$15 in total for a collection of three or four bags? or you tip $10 - $15 per bag, which is incredibly generous. 3 minutes ago, vacation44 said: We do $10 from any port we are sailing from. same question... $10 per bag? leithbones Posted March 31, 2023 #6 Share Posted March 31, 2023 Wow. Am I wicked cheap?? We've seen so many threads @ $2/bag or in that ballpark-- +/- based on weight and size. $5 ? >> I'll pull your bag 8 feet from car to cart.
complawyer Posted March 31, 2023 #7 Share Posted March 31, 2023 no, just a tip between 10-15 dollars. in reality, all they are doing is placing your bags on a dolly along with other passengers bags, and dragging them to a do off point. that being said however, if i'm leaving from an airport that has a sky cap check in, i usually give him $20, although my wife and i usually only check in one bag each. it's probably a very silly notion, but i think if i give the skycap a tip (especially if we're sailing from a european port, that there a much better chance of our bags arriving safely

Rare YVRteacher Posted April 1, 2023 #12 Share Posted April 1, 2023 It’s a good thing I do carry on only as I could never stomach these tip amounts for baggage handlers.
njkate Posted April 1, 2023 #13 Share Posted April 1, 2023 $5 per bag at any port. I think that is sufficient as in reality they aren’t doing much, just sticking your bag on a luggage trolley

You really don’t have to give them anything. Or $2, whatever. They may be extra rough with your bags and drop them a couple times, but it’s not worth their time and energy to do anything worse than that. 10 seconds later they will have forgotten all about you, and your bags will be on the same cart as the Louis Vuitton matching set whose owner tipped them $100.

ChiefMateJRK Posted April 1, 2023 #16 Share Posted April 1, 2023 Based upon my non-scientific observations, over half of the passengers don't tip them anything. Anything I give them will make me one of the good folks.😎 4

Rare destar Posted April 1, 2023 #18 Share Posted April 1, 2023 About $3 per bags is suitable. If you carry 70lbs back breaker bag, yeah give them $5 per bag.
