Room service charge

Hi can anyone clarify whether the new room service charge includes any food you order or is the charge just for the 'service'. Thinking about hot breakfast items specifically. We are in a standard balcony cabin. Not aqua or concierge.

The current room charge fee is a service charge for the entire order to an individual room.  In that respect I would say it is a service fee.    You can order whatever you want for the same fee.

At the moment, they all have the same fee.  IMO, since AQ has an expanded menu they should eliminate the fee

Why would a expanded menu justify no room service charge vs a balcony or OV with a smaller menu?

Interesting; just noticed the RS charge for our October 2024 cruise is $12 with no mention of gratuity.  September 2023 cruise RS charge is $9.95 + 18% gratuity.

Where is your October 2024 cruise sailing from?  Some sailings include the gratuity in the fee so it would be listed a $12, not $9.95 + 18% gratuity.

What's the point of an expanded menu if there's still a fee?  It should be noted that when dining in Blu (AQ or higher) their $16.95 additional lobster tail fee is waved

Port Everglades (Caribbean itinerary) on Eclipse.  Same as Sept 2023 except ship is Equinox.

They might be including it in the fee for the 2024 sailing.

We are on Equinox sailing September 2 this year. What sailing are you on?

The expanded menu is marketing tool to add value perceived value for the higher price just like sparking wine, canapés, the concierge class embarkation lunch, etc.

And adds disappointment when you get on board only to discover there's a fee for this expanded menu and for repeat cruisers, they may not even know this fee exists

I am curious as how they could not be aware?  The service fee for room service for non-suites has been in effect for five months and iirc is printed on the RS menu.

To clarify, once they’re on board they open the RS menu and this could the first time they see the fee

If they check menus in the app pre cruise the service charge is shown there.

Valid and they can go on here or other sites to learn about the fee.  However, how many passengers would research or check the app pre-sailing?  Clearly not 100% so there will be some who know about the fee until they're on board.  Our first time in AQ, we didn't look at the menu in the app nor did we research the RS menu.  For us, the expanded RS menu was the least valued AQ benefit even when it didn't have a fee

As we haven’t cruised Celebrity for a few years, could somebody please clarify for me, if you order room service breakfast from the menu provided in your stateroom, is there the room service charge?

Many thanks.

There is no charge for continental breakfast.  I am not sure which items are considered to be part of a continental breakfast.

It is about the staff services that are required to deliver food to your cabin.

that is why there is a RS fee.

It is marked on the menu. Pastries, cereals, and fruits are typically called a continental breakfast.  Room Service charges apply when you order things like eggs, omelets, and breakfast meats.

Sure but they found a way to make it work for decades without a nearly $12 fee

We had the free continental breakfast 8 out  of our 10 night cruise. We like a light breakfast so a fruit platter, yogurt ,cereal and pastry is perfect. We usually had coffee (not the best) and hot tea.
