We don't recall the inflation being the way it is today during the Reagan presidency years   ;vut ,we do remember the Carter years & also alternate days getting gas based on odd & even license plate numbers . Right now I expect cruise prices to continue to go higher because of food & energy costs plus pressure on salaries to keep up with inflation .fir us  retired folk that is a bad scenario   .Also ,a recession may not happen this year but the economists are now saying in early 2024 ;as the Fed rate increases are felt through  out the economy

With enough capital ,we older people survive with higher Fed bond interest & better market returns

Still CCL is a precarious stock to won too many shares because as  the  interest rates continue to rice so does the demand on their cash to pay off higher debt interest

This is, hands down, the most depressing thread ever.

Best check.  The odd/even license plates for gas was 1973/74 during Nixon and Ford.  Home interest rates during Reagan were as high asa 18 percent.

You asked. I'll answer. Constant predictions and speculation about recession recession recession and dire future of doom and gloom re the cruise industry. Why be such a downer? There are alot of us very happy people out there who are feeling blessed to have another cruise to look forward to. I've yet to see anything positive in your postings. It's just a long angry rant. That's why.

We live in very uncertain times  but ,if you don't understand the reason  why CCL has financial  problems & how it impacts the stock  & future of their cruise lines that is ok . This thread is not to hurt any one but to discuss the future of CCL & this Holland America  cruise line . We have 3 cruses booked on HAL ,so we are not against cruising nor CCL nor  HAL ;but ,I personally feel this thread helps people understand their risk .reward owning CCL stock  & is there still a opportunity to add shares

We lived  through that era . Not certain of the decade any longer . Candidly I do not remember 18 %  interest rates in bans under Regan ,Please supply some  history info on that 18%

Again, I find it curious that someone who finds this thread “depressing”, “uninteresting”, and “mind numbing” continues to actively participate.

Rather than insult those who  discuss hobbies I don’t enjoy, I simply ignore threads i find uninteresting or unpleasant. Then again, I’m often accused of being too logical.

"If you don't understand the reason CCL has financial problems and how it impacts the stock and future of their cruise lines that is ok". You actually said that to me. So condescending and unwarranted.

No more Condescending than you calling the OPs thread “uninteresting”, “mind numbing”, and “depressing”.

For the love of God just ignore the thread. No need to be unkind.

For the love of God just close the thread! It has just become a discussion about politics and money outside of cruising and now you have even invoked the G word into it.🤔 Let's get back to the important things like cabana issues, the lack of lobster and booze on some HAL cruises, and the "free" casino offers mystery!🙂

Those things are interesting to you. I would never ask you to close a thread about the 'free' casino offers even though some find that topic offensive.

I find discussion of finances very interesting. Especially cruise financial discussions because we've never been here before. Ever.  My hobby is day trading. Making the right moves in the market have paid me quite lucratively and are what allowed me to retire in my early 50's with a significant travel budget. It's relevant for me.

And while I don't necessarily agree with @ldtr's assessment, I do respect his dedication to the topic. I like to hear the opposing views as it does help me to make more informed choices with not only where to invest money, but which cruise line to sail with. You may not appreciate financial chatter, but it's relevant to the forum.

Can't we just live and let live? If you don't like the topic, ignore it. There are a dozen topics on the forum that I choose not to participate in. I certainly don't jump in those threads and make condescending comments or pass judgement on when a thread has run it's course.

I do apologize if I offended anyone by bringing the "G" word into it. It was a matter of speech, but that was not very sensitive of me. Again, my apologies.

That whole post I just made was in jest with a bit of sarcasm added. The bringing up about the other topics was made because none of them have had any definitive end to them either and are mostly unresolved. Text is not the best way to express humor into a subject. Nothing offensive by you at all so need to apologize. BTW, that was a great job you did a week ago in keeping the people on the CCL, NCL, and MSC forums updated on the delayed sailings out of Miami. So please carry on...

On that note, please accept my apologies for not understanding the sarcasm 😄 😄 😄

Edited to add- Carnival was the clear winner that day. I haven’t sailed on Carnival since the early 90s but they impressed me. I’m not sure if you are following the MSC forum but what a debacle. Major blunder and disorganization. Apparently both the celebration and Escape were long gone while msc was still boarding. They didn’t leave until 4 am.

???

This is real life. Companies rise and fall. Share prices rise and FALLLL. The last bounce in summer of 2021 took CCL up to $30. Then, boom!

The pandemic is over (for the time being). Surely you've wondered, “How long before the cruise industry returns to normal? What is the new normal?”

Sharing information is important. Some have management skills. Some have investment experience. Some have sheer optimism.. Back in 2019, who would have thought that Crystal would fail spectacularly. Yet the warning signs were there. The ambition and the many projects.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_Cruises#Crystal_Expedition_Cruises

This isn't a movie where it ends happily ever after; in just 90 minutes. Tonight, will there be CCL executives rolling around in their beds. “What if we had ordered just 2 ships less in 2015?”

CCL has had a near-death experience. Should the pandemic have lasted another year, CCL and/or HAL would be under new owners. Personally, I hope that CCL/HAL survive. I intend to keep sailing HAL to Alaska. But, nothing is certain in the real world.

But will I get that if I sail on Disney Cruise Line?  Asking for a friend....

But seriously, I have enjoyed the insight from BOTH perspectives. No, the thread should not be closed.

Or the fun threads where someone asks if the new day of the drink package starts at midnight.  Just so they can carry on. Wow,
