MSC Virtuosa how late can one disembark?

Hello all, hope you're doing fine!

So this is my 1st cruise and I'm pretty excited. I have a question about disembarkation. It should arrive around 7am, and since I'll only have train at 1pm and it's near the port, I'd like to know if you have an ideia of how late can someone disembark? Is there something as a time limit that they impose to exit the cruise?

Thank you all for your help!

They will want you out of your cabin probably by 0800-0830.  Food venues probably closing by then.  You can probably hang around in a lounge until they call the laggards to debark.  I am assuming you will be in Southampton?  EM

Hello @TMCU & welcome to the Cruise Critic message board!

To help you out, your new thread has been moved to the MSC Cruises forum where it will be on topic. The majority of your fellow Cruise Critic members that have sailed MSC frequent this forum and provide feedback here. Browse through the thread titles on this forum looking for threads of interest. You will probably find your fellow Cruise Critic members have already posted questions and received answers that may be of interest to you.

The Cruise Critic website and message boards are a great resource for new as well as experienced cruisers and we are glad you are here. Please feel free to browse the Cruise Critic Community categories list for the various forums. Read a few threads in the different forums to get a feel for what each forum is about. Make sure you read any pinned threads (aka Stickies) on the top of the first page of threads in most forums. You will find very important instructions or information there.

Please remember the following stated in the Guidelines we all agreed to follow when registering for our free Cruise Critic memberships:

Browse Before You Post
Browse a topic first to see if your question has already been asked or answered by someone else. Also, many of the major cruise lines forums have a FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) topic that has been created by our members. Give that a try first. Browsing is your #1 best resource! Please post your messages in an appropriate topic so that you'll receive the best possible response. It is very time consuming to move misplaced messages that are in the wrong topics.

Anytime you need to start a new thread/topic on a forum, first make sure you are in the correct forum for your topic. Word your new thread title in a way to help the members know exactly the information you seek. This greatly helps the members browsing through the thread titles and if they know the information, they will reply to you.

Also, it is best to limit each inquiry to only one topic such as one cruise line, one ship, one port of call, etc. and of course, on the correct forum. You will get more replies that way. Be sure to mention your cruise line, ship, port or sail date in your message if that sort of information will help your fellow Cruise Critic members help you.

To find your fellow Cruise Critic members sailing with you, you need to post on the specific Roll Call thread for your cruise. Please read What is a Roll Call? Everything you Need to Know and How To: Create A New Roll Call. For more information about our famous Roll Calls, please read the Roll Calls and Our Policy Regarding Facebook and Roll Calls sections in the GuidelinesWe also have the following Cruise Critic article you might enjoy8 Reasons to Join a Cruise Critic Roll Call

The specific Roll Call thread for your cruise is the ONLY place on the Cruise Critic message boards where you and your fellow Roll Call thread members are allowed to post personal ads about sharing private tours, excursions or transportation with each other to save money. There is a "captive audience" there since you are all sailing together! Your fellow Roll Call thread members may have important information posted in your Roll Call thread. Especially those that have sailed your line, ship or itinerary before. Also, they may already have posted share requests that may interest you.

Once you locate the Roll Call thread for your specific line, ship and sail date If one has already created, read through the whole thread to get to know the other Cruise Critic members sailing with you. Use the blue Reply to this topic button to post an introductory post about yourself on the Roll Call. If you want to address a particular post already in the thread, be sure to use the Quote feature on that post as I did yours so all will be aware of what your post concerns. You type your reply UNDER the light blue quote box then click the blue Submit Reply button.

If a Roll Call thread for your specific ship & sail date has not been created, please feel free to start it! Then sit back and wait for your fellow Cruise Critic members sailing with you to join in with posts. They will appreciate you starting the Roll Call.

So sorry this is so long, but I sincerely hope this information will be helpful to someone new to posting on our message boards. We are so glad to have you aboard Cruise Critic!

Happy sails,

Host Kat

Hi, thanks.

Yeah that is correct, Southampton. The station is nearby, and with the train only at 1pm, my idea is that we could stay inside the cruise for as long as we're allowed to.

No they will want to get the ship ready for the next cruise, you will probably have to be off by 9.30 at the vary latest.. People will be arriving to board the next cruise so it will be very busy from around 10 am.

Self-disembarkation carrying own luggage is early.   The day before leaving, you will be given information with your daily ship newspaper on your disembarkation time, time to put luggage out etc.   As a general rule on Virtuosa, the higher the deck your cabin is on, the later your disembarkation.   This is a big ship, so other than those who opt for self- disembarkation, which from memory is around 7.30am, there has to be a degree of traffic management.   The last deck is around 10.30am, but it does vary slightly from cruise to cruise.

Hi again,

Sorry to bring this up, but for example, with the information below:

If let's say I'm in the number 2 (8:10) I can still enjoy my breakfast after the meeting point, right? Leave then.

Depending on the route (you didn't mention), Virtuosa is a multi-embarkation ship i.e. passengers and embark and disembark at multiple stops on the route; most of MSC's routes in Europe are like this. Assuming your sailing is like this, you shouldn't have any issue staying on board a little longer. When I debarked in Barcelona, I was able to stay onboard until about 11am with no issues. We weren't asked to leave, our cards were still working and packages available for us.

If you're doing a single embarkation cruise, you'll need to leave by around 9.30/10am, shortly after the last group (on the list you've shared above) are due to leave when they'll call for the stragglers. From what I've seen, only the Canary Island route is a single embarkation sailing.

You should note that MSC is relatively unique in having multiple embarkations on a route. Most others only have one.

Thank you for the info.

The one I'll be doing will depart from Southampton to Norway (4 places).

Someone else will probably correct me if I'm wrong but when I see this I assume that the meeting point is where you go when you shall disembark so after that you can't do anything more on the ship.

The routine is get up and ready take your carry on with you and go to breakfast or come back for your carry on after breakfast. We have often left it packed and locked in the room so the cabin attendant can get on with his getting it ready for next occupants. Go to the meeting point for disembarkation.

It will be easier to take carry on with you as elevators will be extremely busy.

If you are number 2 but not ready to leave at 8.10 you don't have to go to the location, just leave your cabin with your carry on and go to breakfast. If your number has already been called when you've finished breakfast just join the general line for disembarkation. If your number has not yet been called because they are running late go to the lounge and wait. If you don't want to leave the ship until the very last call for anyone to leave just find a seat somewhere and wait. The disembarkation group numbers are really just the earliest times to leave (which most people want) not the latest.
