baldilocks Posted August 10, 2023 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2023 With all the news about Haitian unrest, will Labadee be safe? I know they have fence guards, but a couple of years back no one could get off the ship due a fleet of small boats doing a protest.
smokeybandit Posted August 10, 2023 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2023 It's the safest port stop anywhere in the Caribbean other than maybe Coco Cay

Cruise a holic Posted August 10, 2023 #16 Share Posted August 10, 2023 We found some of the merchants on Labadee were very aggressive- Was annoying, but didn't feel unsafe. Also not nearly as nice as cococay.

Apparently ‘beyond the fence’ it’s very nice. We have friends who traveled across from the Dominican Republic and stayed in the Cormier Beach Resort last summer which is a couple of miles away from labadee and they had a great time.

Rare mandyleighflies Posted August 10, 2023 #19 Share Posted August 10, 2023 We were just in Labadee in April and it felt very safe, all the staff members were so nice and accommodating. Beautiful island, truly loved it!! We rented an overwater bungalow and it was spectacular!!

The protest with the boats has nothing to do with the unrest in Haiti, different year, different situation. If you need to ask, than don't go. Labadee, is an isolated area in Haiti, and is leased by the cruise industry. Every country has protesting (including the USA) and various other items to be concerned about. That is the world. So, there is nothing to be conerned about, but make your own choice in the matter.
Rare mac_tlc Posted August 10, 2023 #23 Share Posted August 10, 2023 (edited) We are here today and about 6000 people just got off. If it’s not safe we will have a rather exclusive sail up to NJ. Edited August 10, 2023 by mac_tlc
davy jones Posted August 10, 2023 #24 Share Posted August 10, 2023 Labadee is a significant distance from the capital. It likely has excellent security around and outside of the complex. In addition, the cruise line monitors for possible security threats and would cancel the port call if there were potential problems.
