We went up at midnight to Deck 11 to see potential Northern Lights. Although not so clearly visible to naked eye, the camera picked up the color.

There were apparently Northern Lights visible last night but the phone call chain to alert each cabin that has been set up didn’t work! Better luck tonight 🤞

The lights were not visible to the naked eye so I believe that is why the phone chain wasn’t enabled. Some people with good phone cameras or real cameras got some pics. I was out there just before midnight but my pics weren’t that great. I think we’ll have a better chance tonight or tomorrow night. I want to see it with my eyes and just through my camera.

From what I read elsewhere some people did get a call and some didn’t!
let’s hoping they are very visible tonight

I’m currently wrapped up reading on our balcony in lovely sunshine!
We are doing max speed 21knots on a due north 000 heading.

Arrival in Nuuk tomorrow delayed until 10a due to the choppy seas yesterday. We will not leave until 10p.

We are allowed to walk into town, despite dire warnings there are no sidewalks.. I mean how many trucks 🛻 can there be driving into Nuuk docks so we will take the risk and save ourselves $44!

We will try and make it to a show tonight.. it’s the Westend to Broadway one. This is my 8th time on Jewel so I have seen it before! 💃

I was knocked out last night.  I didn’t see any alerts about the Northern Lights.

I did not get up again until noon.  I was really rundown.  I suspect it was the heavy movement that helped it.

So, Day 6, Good afternoon from

Its a clearer day today.

IMG_8517.thumb.jpeg.0058c887c5a3e0804722d7d4c7d99142.jpeg

A bit of a chill in the air at 44 degrees.

Again, I barely made lunch.

Mushroom soup.  I always enjoy this fish onboard.

 Stuffed Mushroom caps.

Maple Honey Pie

I’m waking up so late, I’m not drinking coffee.  Though I may need some now.

Also, our itinerary has is arriving late to Nuuk due to the weather slowest us down.  10am instead of 8.  Which means more sleep!  Woot.

My plans for the day?  The only thing that caught my eye is the broadway show tonight.

But lets see what kind of things i can find.

Not unusual for much sharper colors caught by the camera unless there is really good solar activity, and then the eyes also can see the brighter colors. We did Viking's Northern Lights cruise back in '19 and great onboard lecturers. One of the things they talked about is proper camera settings and so forth, as well as suggestions on downloading some good apps for mobile phone. I remember one was for long exposure pics and the other is to check the Kp index - indicating how strong a sighting is likely to be and where it is relative to one's location. I got some pretty good shots up in Norway using just my iphone. My regular 35mm and video cam were worthless. Didn't have a tripod for the phone and so a few pics are a bit shaky. Still, I didn't think I'd get as much as I did. Funny...they made an announcement during dinner and so everyone hustled out of the dining room. Probably one of the ONLY things that would take people away from their food (!) except for an emergency, and we had that too...a big one actually. Never got to finish the cruise.

My eyes did not see this real bright green color. Staff also said they'd make announcements on the room tvs and so we were told to leave them on, but we found the extra light made it hard to sleep. I don't believe there were any late night sightings though. Our best sightings were right on the ship - better (for us anyway) than the (long and COLD) evening program that they took us out on.

Best of luck seeing them this evening!  Here's the app that I used. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/my-aurora-forecast-alerts/id1073082439

There are probably others.

Pretty lazy day at sea.  We tried to play this game we brought with us.

It was tough relearning it because we were in the Schooner Bar and there was stuff going on.  I need to review the rules thoroughly.  We’ll try again later.

Afterwards, we went to the show.

As I didn’t like anything on the menu we are in the WJ. It was pretty quiet but a good selection on Mediterranean night.
Aldo went to the show. It’s getting dated! The graphics at the beginning are like something out of the 80s!

Then the lovely Kat gave us the NL announcement 📣

It was freezing with sleet rain but worth it!

Ended up in vortex for a warming chocolate martini…!!

Its a balmy 35 degrees out.  To me, this is comfortable.

I say Good morning because i ACTUALLY woke up early.  We got breakfast.  The both of us!

I’ll post the menu but the food isn’t inspiring or photogenic.

Great pictures. Looks beautiful up there. About what time were the NL sighted?  Are there shore excursions offered in these Greenland ports? Wondering about Nuuk being that you referred to shuttle service.

LOL on seeing that artisan cheese plate on the menu. On a recent RCL cruise, one night it showed up during dinner (didn't order it) and then it kept coming every day. Not sure why.
