Good morning.  Thanks for the Report.

 

Another sunny day in the forecast with a high of 23°C (73°F).  Lots of gardening to be done, I'll remember to wear sunscreen.  It's still dark, but as soon as the sun comes up, Bertie and I will go for a walk.

 

An interesting collection of days.  I was a waitress when I was in university, I haven't read a comic book in years, deaf people's needs should be addressed.

I think I'll pass on the meal, not sure about the drink and hope the wine isn't expensive.

I've never been to today's port, but would love to visit someday.

Good morning.

Thank you for today's daily reports.

It is currently 11.46am sunny and 63°F.

I had my Flu vaccine jab at 09.30am this morning.

After dropping Pauline off at her office I had 2 hours to spare so I got a nice bacon bap and coffee and sat watching the North Sea.

Most food service employees do a great job.

I get tinnitus ringing in my ears but actually being deaf must be dreadful.

I rarely read comic books as a child preferring football magazine's.

I will give today's food and drink a miss.

We have never been or fancied seeing New Zealand.

I hope everyone is safe and well this morning and  y'all have a fantastic day.

Good morning friends!  Today in Frisco it is 72 with an expected high of only 89.  Cloudy morning and sunny afternoon.  There were scattered thunderstorms last night around Dallas and DS's plane left 90 minutes late because of the backlog of flights ready to take off.  He arrived 64 minutes late in Detroit, well after midnight.

 

Thank you Rich @richwmn for our Daily and Fleet Report.  I will celebrate World Deaf Day, and will consider the memes posted today to be my comic book appreciation.  Congrats to all food service employees for having their own day of recognition.  They work hard!  Quite a nice quote.  I have to say the jerk tofu grain bowl sounds pretty unique.  It will be interesting to see Debbie's report.  No thank you to the Jim Rickey or the red wine.  Nice days in history as well. Thanks to the F&B ladies Debbie @dfish, Dixie @summer slope and Ann @cat shepard!

Today we have the lovely New Zealand destination of Port Chalmers which is the closest port to Dunedin.  We had that destination twice before on Oct. 5, 2022 and March 13, 2023.  The links are below for you to grab your previously posted photos to share.  Happily, we were there in 2013 on Diamond Princess and 2017 on Sun Princess.  Both were excellent cruises.

 

 

 

  

Here are my photos from Dunedin.

 

We first visited Port Chalmers on Dec. 19, 2013 on Diamond Princess.  We took a tour on the Taieri Gorge Railway train which came right to the ship for pickup of passengers.  

 

It was a comfortable ride and some seats had a table at them sort of in a booth configuration which came in handy at lunch.  

 

Four of us ate at the table and they even provided wine with refills if you wanted it.  Made for a crowded table but no one minded.

 

Along the way on our tour of the Taieri Gorge.  The scenery was great and we saw a lot this yellow plant growing there.

 

We saw horses and sheep and either alpacas or llamas.  

 

You could step off the car and take photos between the cars if you wanted to.

 

 

We made a stop or two along the way at tiny little outposts, but the train stopped and reversed course at Pukerangi.  Locals set up tables displaying good for the tourists to buy and enjoy.

 

 

This guy was set for Christmas with his little hat on.  I think he would rather have been at home taking a nap.

 

The train station in Dunedin is famous and they stopped there long enough to let you take a little self guided tour.  It's beautiful as you'll see especially on the opposite side from the tracks.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

At the end of the tour we decided to walk around Port Chalmers.  There is a tall hill near the ship which we walked up, on a residential street, so we could take photos from that viewpoint.  This is the sign along the steep street.

Good Monday morning everyone. Thank you for the Daily and Fleet reports. 

Another chilly and rainy day today. Had some concerns about our sump pump keeping the basement dry. Might be time for a new backup battery. We have someone coming out tomorrow to look at it. The never-ending job of a homeowner. 

I will be going into the office today.

Great collection of days - especially food service employees and Deaf Day.  Both of those can be celebrated daily.  Interesting quote - I think the “maybe” is the key word 😉. Loved Port Chalmers & Dunedin.  Heck we loved all of New Zealand.  Two great days in history - especially the appointment of the first woman to the Supreme Court 👍

 

My friend called yesterday - problem getting into the HAL site to see if I could.  She was trying to do her luggage tags and a little 💡 went off in my head.  I hadn’t done mine 😬 Once the arts and craft project was done, I felt melancholy.  Jose would have inspected the laminated ones and done the holes for me 😌. With the rainy forecast, I decided laminating was a good idea again. 😉 

 

 

Thanks to all who suggested cuttings of the hydrangea.  It’s too late in the year and it’s down to nothing so what I will do is wait until spring to see if any shoots come up and if not, take some cuttings off my others.  

 

 

Frost warning tonight so I am going to have to find a place for my dahlia bulbs in the house to protect them.  Dam! 😡  They seemed to be drying quite well outside - oh well.

Another beautiful day in Port Chalmers on Nov. 30, 2017.  On this trip we were on Sun Princess for 62 days seeing all the sights in Australia, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand.  

 

I believe I booked a private tour from Good Company, so we waited in this special area for our group to gather.  We would visit Larnach Castle, Speight's Brewery and a Dunedin city tour.

 

Along the way to Dunedin we saw theForsyth Barr Stadium, third largest in New Zealand.

 

We passed a different brewery named Emerson's.

 

One place we stopped at seemed pretty popular for tourists guessing from the number of people already there.  The so called steepest street in the world, Baldwin Street.  I'm not so sure. 

 

I feel like I've been on steeper before.

 

The tour stopped at the Dunedin Railway Station which was nice because I'm sure many on the bus had never been there before. 

 

Out on the Station lawn, you can see the Cadbury candy company across the road.  Some tours actually include a Cadbury tour and it's quite popular.  I know the crew made sure they got a good supply of Cadbury chocolates while in town.

 

That's our bus parked in front of the train station.  Time to head downtown to pick up more passengers. 

 

We stopped near St. Paul's Anglican Cathedral which is right next door to the Town Hall.

 

 

I'm not sure why this statue of poet Robert Burns has an orange cone on his head.  ??

 

We enjoyed a lovely view of the countryside as we headed out to Larnach Castle.

We pulled over at this scenic view.  I was enjoying this part of the tour a lot.

This was a residence and is the only "castle" in New Zealand.  We had an extensive tour of dozens of rooms. This is the type of decor we saw inside.  I won't bore you with a dozen photos like it.  I enjoyed the outdoors more.

 

Well, maybe a photo of this floor in the foyer, which proclaimed this home The Camp.  I'd love to see what their city home looked like!

 

There was a rooftop terrace we could enjoy the view from.

Next door was the Ballroom Cafe where we enjoyed lunch.

 

We of course had the same beautiful scenery leaving the Castle and heading back to the city.  We made our last stop at Speight's Brewery, the largest one in New Zealand.  We began our tour in the production area, but evereyone had that tasting room on their mind.  Our guide took us through the history of the company and its place in Dunedin's background.

 

 

Our guide Keith went through the whole process.  I don't remember much he said, but DH could probably give the tour for him with 29 years experience in engineering at Anheuser-Busch.

Since I don't drink beer I took small sips of lighter beers.  I would never want to waste a whole glass of beer like that.  We had a full day on this tour and enjoyed it a lot.  If I were going back I would check out their tours and no doubt find something new to do in Dunedin.  

 

Hoping no one is sick of photos already this morning.  Have a great day everyone. This is our last full day in Frisco so will see what the plans are with DDIL.  Ren has no practice the morning after a Sunday game so will get to school for classes around 10 am and will have a nice sleep-late day!

Happy Monday! Interesting quote about quotes.  Do you have a favorite quote?  Here’s the one I always wrote in my student’s yearbook.I do think it says something about me.😉

 

I’ll celebrate all foodservice workers, from the ones who greet us at the door, bring our drinks and serve our food to those in the back of the house who prepare our food and clean up after we leave.  I put myself through college tending bar and have an incredible amount of respect for their hard work.

Nice collection of Days.  Food Service Employees are definitely essential workers. What would we do without them?  I have worked with many people who were deaf.  They really are very good at what they do.  Sorry I never learned ASL to communicate better with them.

Never had many comic books.

i will take a pass on the food and drink.  And I have not been to the port.

Today DH has a doctor appointment in Beaufort and I have to be the driver.  I will make sure I am there or else I don’t know what is going on.  One of the things to be discussed is his memory issues.  At least when we discussed this last night, he did not fight me on this and agrees that it is a problem for him. We’ll see where this goes.  We are then going for a late lunch and then going to the furniture store to look for a nice rug for the living room and maybe some new lamps.  All in the same area.

One problem is that he is still telling me that he wants to drive.  I just keep saying okay and move on to another subject.  

 

My polymyalgia seems under better control. The pain is gone and it seems that one skipped day on the predisone did not cause any major problems.  So far so good.  Will message the doctor today to see if I can start to lower the dosage to a more acceptable level.

 

Still working on what we want to do in Venice, Florence and Rome prior to our cruise.  Found a great website to help.  It’s called www.visitacity.com.   It will actually make up an itinerary based on what you want to see and the number of days you will be in a place.  They also recommend tours, but no obligation to buy.  Worth a look for independent touring.

The next stage is a cold maceration to extract color without extracting the tannins. After this short maceration period of a week to ten days the wine is separated from the skins.

Fermentation is then carefully controlled to avoid any oxidation (beneficial to some extent for the tannins but detrimental to the fruit).

[Crazy For Cats]

Good Morning Everyone,  thanks for today's daily fleet report.   It's another damp day here and sm happy that I can work from home.  One of the new breakers tripped yesterday when DH started to iron. I'm calling the electrician when they open. 

Yesterday I made a quick trip to the grocery store to pick up some beef roasts that were sale.  Then the cats talked me into laying down.  Mona on the left was beside me, Amelia and Tucker joined in too.

We have been to Dunedin NZ way back in 2002 on the Regal Princess. I do have a cruise story about Dunedin. I decided while there to go on a walking tour of the Cadbury Chocolate Factory (which has been permanently closed). In order to tour the factory we were required to wear hair nets plus I had to wear a beard net. While touring outside the plant we went by a milk truck emptying the milk into a tank. The truck driver looked at us and said how y’all doing for which I replied we are all having a bad hair day. 😳. The highlife was getting a Willy Wonka everlasting gobstopper but unfortunately the candy was not everlasting but lasted five minutes. So that was my highlife of Dunedin.

Good morning. It is 59 and raining here and will continue all day. So far the sump pump in the basement is managing to keep it dry…we keep checking as it feels as if it has been raining forever.I did not get to New Zealand but very much enjoyed Sandi’s pictures @StLouisCruisers. My DH was extremely hard of hearing even with hearing aids and found it to be so frustrating when he could not hear well,especially in a group of people. My father banned comic books so the three of us would go next door to read them at our neighbors.I think I will pass on the recipe today.

We have a little leftover dollars on our take out gift certificate and will use that tonight. I do enjoy cooking but it sure is nice when the food comes to me!

Good morning from a cooler central Texas. It is 72F and feels like 72F.  Right now the humidity is 93% with a dew point of 73F and a 8mph wind.  Our high will be 88F, which will be much more pleasant than yesterday.  We never got any rain yesterday, at least not before the severe thunderstorm watch ended at 11 pm.  We heard a lot of thunder late yesterday afternoon, but the rain was just south of us.  The only thing on the agenda is house cleaning.

 

A big salute to food service workers.  DH's niece and her DH own a very popular restaurant in Rockport, TX.  As one who wears hearing aids, I will honor World Deaf Day.  It has been a very long time since I read a comic book.

 

The John Green quote is interesting.

 

We'll pass on the meal and the drink.  The wine sounds interesting, and the price is good.

 

We have not been to Dunedin, but I would love to see more of New Zealand.

 

Two more interesting and important days in history.  Balboa opened the world up to exploration of the Pacific Ocean.  Sandra Day O'Connor's appointment to the Supreme Court was a milestone for women.

Today we have the lovely New Zealand destination of Port Chalmers which is the closest port to Dunedin.  We had that destination twice before on Oct. 5, 2022 and March 13, 2023.  The links are below for you to grab your previously posted photos to share.  Happily, we were there in 2013 on Diamond Princess and 2017 on Sun Princess.  Both were excellent cruises.

 

 

 

  

Here are my photos from Dunedin.

 

We first visited Port Chalmers on Dec. 19, 2013 on Diamond Princess.  We took a tour on the Taieri Gorge Railway train which came right to the ship for pickup of passengers.  

 

It was a comfortable ride and some seats had a table at them sort of in a booth configuration which came in handy at lunch.  

 

Four of us ate at the table and they even provided wine with refills if you wanted it.  Made for a crowded table but no one minded.

 

Along the way on our tour of the Taieri Gorge.  The scenery was great and we saw a lot this yellow plant growing there.

 

We saw horses and sheep and either alpacas or llamas.  

 

You could step off the car and take photos between the cars if you wanted to.

 

 

We made a stop or two along the way at tiny little outposts, but the train stopped and reversed course at Pukerangi.  Locals set up tables displaying good for the tourists to buy and enjoy.

 

 

This guy was set for Christmas with his little hat on.  I think he would rather have been at home taking a nap.

 

The train station in Dunedin is famous and they stopped there long enough to let you take a little self guided tour.  It's beautiful as you'll see especially on the opposite side from the tracks.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

At the end of the tour we decided to walk around Port Chalmers.  There is a tall hill near the ship which we walked up, on a residential street, so we could take photos from that viewpoint.  This is the sign along the steep street.

Sandi, by the time I realized there were thunderstorms in the area of DFW, it was too late to warn you that there probably would be flight delays.  Ever since the horrible plane crash due to wind shear in the mid-1990s, DFW is very conservative about flights during storms.  They will often have a ground stop until the storms pass.  I'm glad your DS made it home even if it was later than intended.

Nice collection of Days.  Food Service Employees are definitely essential workers. What would we do without them?  I have worked with many people who were deaf.  They really are very good at what they do.  Sorry I never learned ASL to communicate better with them.

Today DH has a doctor appointment in Beaufort and I have to be the driver.  I will make sure I am there or else I don’t know what is going on.  One of the things to be discussed is his memory issues.  At least when we discussed this last night, he did not fight me on this and agrees that it is a problem for him. We’ll see where this goes.  We are then going for a late lunch and then going to the furniture store to look for a nice rug for the living room and maybe some new lamps.  All in the same area.

One problem is that he is still telling me that he wants to drive.  I just keep saying okay and move on to another subject.  

 

My polymyalgia seems under better control. The pain is gone and it seems that one skipped day on the predisone did not cause any major problems.  So far so good.  Will message the doctor today to see if I can start to lower the dosage to a more acceptable level.

 

Still working on what we want to do in Venice, Florence and Rome prior to our cruise.  Found a great website to help.  It’s called www.visitacity.com.   It will actually make up an itinerary based on what you want to see and the number of days you will be in a place.  They also recommend tours, but no obligation to buy.  Worth a look for independent touring.

 

Sandi, thank you for the lovely photos of Dunedin.  I envy your organization.
