crazy4themouse Posted December 8, 2023 #1 Share Posted December 8, 2023 RC cracks me up sometimes... Just got an email from them titled, "*Amazing Offer Alert* Open to receive MASSIVE savings on your next getaway" So okay, I'll bite. Go look up the same Harmony sailings for next year we were kinda toying around with -- Same exact fare they've been at for months, lol. 🙄 I think Royal and I differ on the definition of the word "massive." 😄 1
Merion_Mom Posted December 8, 2023 #2 Share Posted December 8, 2023 While I agree that RC's marketing can be over the top, *I* am amazed that people think that a sale/savings will apply to EVERY sailing on EVERY ship and EVERY excursion and EVERY beverage package and EVERY dining package.

Oh I definitely don't think that.. I've been doing this a while. I just think they need to calm down a bit with their enthusiasm over basically nothing. Do those "massive savings" only apply to one cruise on one date? Two cruises? There are a number of sailings we routinely follow for price drops just in case, and nothing has changed.

Or ships without the high demand that occurs with ships out of Galveston?
George C Posted December 8, 2023 #5 Share Posted December 8, 2023 I was looking at harmony a couple of weeks ago and suites had great prices, so I checked again during harmony sailing last week prices went up , so my December cruise is going to be on MSc yacht club.

HicksRA Posted December 8, 2023 #7 Share Posted December 8, 2023 (edited) The one cruise I have left, in an OS, (may be my last) went up almost $200 pp on this fabulous sale… And oddly, a panoramic suite is more than a GS. TheDawg79 Posted December 8, 2023 #8 Share Posted December 8, 2023 Prices go up and down regardless if there is any actual sale going on. I’ve seen price drops with no “sale” and price increases during a sale. Supply vs demand dictates prices, not sales

FamilyCruiserUK Posted December 9, 2023 #12 Share Posted December 9, 2023 Royal are very cleaver at wording deals that are not actually deals. Once you work it out and compare it to other "deals" its usually the same or very little difference..... 🤣

It's usually or sometimes a %age off of their most expensive price, not the usual price which then works out to be the usual price or maybe a hair below it. They show the lowest price (like an inside room), knowing that many /most people will actually end up going with a more expensive option. They emphasize the deal, then in small wording hit you with the big costs. I teach -- or, used to teach -- a whole unit on this topic, and I had so many excellent examples to share with students. I've always advertising interesting -- the layers of meaning, the carefully crafted images, the hidden messages -- but most of my students weren't particularly interested. All the angst over "its not a real sale" is hilarious. Like somehow this is unique to Royal or even cruising. LOL Didn't anybody go Black Friday shopping... "UP TO 70% OFF... STOREWIDE!!!" There was one rack of stuff nobody wanted that was 70% off. The pants I wanted were 20% off 🙂 . I didn't go online complaining about Columbia Outdoors dishonesty. 1

But never to anyplace we want to fly. So I ignore their fantastic deal emails now,

nelblu Posted December 9, 2023 #20 Share Posted December 9, 2023 I'm on Harmony now and booked a CP balcony for same time next year and got a price of $1,289 with solo supplement and balcony discounts. Earned a Casino credit of $250 off fare and $200 in OBCs. Good deal for me.

cruiseguy1016 Posted December 9, 2023 #22 Share Posted December 9, 2023 (edited) The reality is, there are of few hundred (maybe more, maybe less) of us that follow RCI pricing and know a good deal when we see one. There are thousands of people out there that hear about a "sale" and book at that price because they were told it was a sale. Those are the people putting money in RCI's pockets.
