Rare MISTER 67 Posted January 26 #8 Share Posted January 26 Greetings from beautiful Punta Gorda Another great day coming up, mid 80s today and again tomorrow then we cool off again all next week The quote makes quite of bit of sense though I was willing to die for my country when I served 4 years in the Air Force Like Beer cans the other day, I don’t appreciate dental drills Early tee time today Have a great day and stay well

Rare kazu Posted January 26 Author #10 Share Posted January 26 happy TGIF everyone. I will gladly celebrate Customs and Environmental Education day but Dental Drill day? No way, Jose. LOL on today’s quote. Yay on a white wine today. Loved Punta Arenas when we were there. Sorry folks, I don’t know how the dates got in by the port of the day. Have to remember not to just use the decoder ring but also to re-check when I post it, I guess. I’ll get better 🤞 Yesterday was a red letter day for me - after being housebound for a week, I was able to drive (very, very carefully) and get a few groceries (very very carefully). it took me 10 x longer than normal moving slowly and deliberately - didn’t get much but now I have food in the house again 👍 It’s going to take all too long for my ribs too heal and I’m not making the same mistake I did before. 🤞 Prayers for those on the Care list, those suffering losses, grief, health problems, pain, worries and extra ones for Gerry and Maurice today @ger_77. 🙏 Cheers to those celebrating and cruising. 30 5
Rare 0106 Posted January 26 #11 Share Posted January 26 Today will be spent packing and taking care of the last minute details for our cruise to South America; we leave tomorrow. This is the first time we will be gone for a month. We usually only travel with carryons but because it will be hot in Buenos Aires and cold in Antarctica, I have agreed to check a bag. My plan is to put all our heavy clothes , boots and winter gear in it. I bought air tags but am nervous about checking a bag. I honestly can’t remember the last time I checked a bag. What if it gets lost? Will we be without our winter gear? I was extremely excited to see Punta Arenas as today’s port. I look forward to your pictures. I decided to use our HIA tour credit there since the penguins are a long boat ride away. Here’s a brief description of the tour we will be taking: A catamaran ride across the famous Strait of Magellan On Magdalena Island, one of Chile's largest penguin colonies The chance to observe the Magellan penguins and chicks Positive thoughts to those who need them. Cheers to those celebrating and cruising.
StLouisCruisers Posted January 26 #12 Share Posted January 26 Good morning friends! It's a warm 58F and cloudy morning. Today will be 70 degrees with a chance of afternoon showers. Last night when I checked my weather app it said we would see rain for the next 36 hours so it pays to check weather often because they're always changing it. That means they're wrong 50% of the time, at least. Thanks go to Jacqui @kazu and Roy @rafinmd for posting the Fleet Report and Daily as well as the maps of the fleet locations. I turned on the PEV camera in time to see Rotterdam passing the condos. A certain family member is on the Rotterdam and will spend the next week in Kissimmee then back to PEV to board a southern Caribbean cruise on the Zaandam. Now back to the Daily. Do I have to think about dental drills? If you see a Customs official today thank them for their work. I agree with protecting our environment but some people go too far and want to downgrade our quality of life so we need some balance there. I would enjoy the meal suggestion and the Sauvignon Blanc but pass on a Melon Ball cocktail. Two interesting days in history. I've just heard of a Robitussin recall so I'd better warn my twin and DBIL. He's been taking Robitussin to sleep at night with his awful cough. Thanks to our friends Debbie @dfish, Dixie @summer slope and Ann @cat shepard for your reporting. Prayers were said bright (dark?) and early on my treadmill. First were my family and friends in need of a lift. That was followed by the people of Israel and Ukraine and the poor hostages still held, and all our service people in harm's way in the region. And special prayers for our Care list who I hope will see improvement in pain and general well being, good diagnosing, helpful treatments and less stress. There's certainly a lot going on among us! 🙏 Cheers to those celebrating and cruising!🥂 Thank you Vanessa @JazzyV for your lists each day and you are always in my prayers! Port of the day is Punta Arenas, Chile. This was the port before on Aug. 17, 2022 and March 23, 2023. We've been there three times and missed a fourth time due to weather along the Chilean coast delaying our ship. Here are the two links. Odd we have photos instead of maps again today. Same photo too! I hope everyone here keeps well and stays safe. I intend to stay far away from my mailbox today so that no one is tempted to sideswipe it or completely back over it while I'm standing next to it!📫😆 Photos of Punta Arenas, Chile coming up. 31
Rare puppycanducruise Posted January 26 #13 Share Posted January 26 Good morning. Happy Friday. Thanks for the Report. Love those maps. We've got more showers in the forecast. I hope it's not foggy today, I should get a few groceries and pick up the mail. Three interesting days to observe. I guess I should appreciate dental drills, that's what drilled out the cavity so the dentist could repair the tooth. Customs officials are important. Not sure about the quote. The meal sounds good, so does the drink and the wine. I've never been to today's port. Prayers for everyone who needs them. Cheers for all the celebrations. Have a wonderful day. Stay safe. 30

StLouisCruisers Posted January 26 #15 Share Posted January 26 Punta Arenas, Chile is a third time showing for port of the day. I thought I'd been there four times, but the fourth time was a miss because of a huge storm while on Coral Princess in January 2020. We stopped instead at Puerto Montt. The other times there were a March 2012 Star Princess South America cruise, then a February 2015 Ruby Princess South America cruise (which included Lenda and DH) @Quartzsite Cruiser, and finally a Christmas day 2016 stop on our Seabourn Quest Antarctica and South Georgia Island cruise. You'd be surprised how busy the town was on Christmas Day! On our first stop in Punta Arenas, Chile in 2012 we and another couple who cruised with us walked to the overlook to see the whole town. We also did some shopping and visited some monuments. A good gift store right down the street from Plaza de Armas. The Plaza de Armas The Magellan statue I think I saw one of these dogs sleeping here three years later on our 2015 stop! On our tender ride back to the Star Princess we were accompanied by some dolphins. In 2015 on Ruby Princess, arriving at our anchorage. We walked downtown again and visited the Shackleton Bar inside the Sara Braun Palace Here's the bar And the much lighter and brighter conservatory near it A protest on a street corner Back at the Plaza de Armas a lot of vendors were set up. And here is a local stray who looks like he could have slept in front of the Magellan statue, or perhaps a relative of one of those dogs I photographed 3 years earlier. On December 25, 2016 we were able to dock instead of anchor on Seabourn Quest's stop there. All the goodies were on display for us even though it should have been a holiday. Penguins are the star here. These look warm! A sign similar to the one in Ushuaia, Argentina For the first time we took a walk in the cemetery. Very interesting place! I could do that walk again. So much to see there. From there we walked back to the church across from Plaza de Armas. Many of us quietly popped our head in the door to see the interior but left quickly so we wouldn't disturb the worshippers. Time to head back to the Quest for a snack at the poolside restaurant. Heaters and blankets are provided for your comfort. Whatever we ate, I'm sure it was great. 25

Rare Crazy For Cats Posted January 26 #17 Share Posted January 26 Good Morning Everyone, thanks for today’s daily fleet report. It’s a very rainy morning here and it’s supposed to last most of the day. This afternoon I’m getting the second shingles shot so I’m planning on not doing anything tomorrow. I’m pretty sure I’d like today’s meal suggestion. I hope everyone has a good day today. 23
Rare kazu Posted January 26 Author #18 Share Posted January 26 @tupper10 Bon Voyage! have a great cruise and a WONDERFUL time !!!! 21 minutes ago, 0106 said: I honestly can’t remember the last time I checked a bag. What if it gets lost? Will we be without our winter gear? Don’t worry. if there are some light layers you can slip in your carry on - it won’t hurt. But since you have air tags, you’ll know where your bags are. If they don’t make it, you can tell the airline where they are. Odds are you will know better than they do (my experience) and it speeds your luggage delivery. Not that much luggage gets lost now. You’ll be fine, I hope. 21 minutes ago, 0106 said: I was extremely excited to see Punta Arenas as today’s port. I look forward to your pictures. Rare ottahand7 Posted January 26 #19 Share Posted January 26 Another night of rough seas on our way to Turks and Caicos. We arrive at 11:30 and depart at 7:00. We are just walking ashore and looking around the commercial area. We visited in late 2022 prior to Grand South America and did a HIA mini Jeep tour. We also were in today's port but I don't recall we did anything exciting counting on seeing penguins elsewhere on the trip. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet reports each day with maps. Prayers for everyone on our care list. Thank you everyone for keeping the daily what it is each day. Have a lovely Friday. cat shepard Posted January 26 #20 Share Posted January 26 (edited) Thank you for today’s FR & D, Jacqui! Roy, thank you for our maps. I appreciate both of your efforts. Today is also the first Full moon of the year. We all need to stand outside & howl tonight. Did people really believe this would work? (Don’t just read the item circled). Now chocolate and wine might work for me, but cheese? Vanessa thank you for keeping up with all of us. Praying that you get permanent relief from your pain. SOON. Gym, Bindi walks, chores. I have started cleaning the grout of my tile floor. It is laborious work, but the results make it worth it. I started in 3 high traffic areas and finished three tiles in each area. My hand started cramping after that. We will see how far I get today. Prayers for all who need our support. @ger_77 Gerry, keeping you & Maurice in my prayers. Thinking of you Terry & Tana. Cheers to all who are celebrating! May we each find a reason to smile today. *********** Kim Crawford Illuminate Sauvignon Blanc This is the wine that put New Zealand wines on the map for me. Immensely sippable and refreshing. You can find it almost everywhere. And it is definitely priced to try and enjoy. Online prices start at $10.99. Winemaker’s notes A refreshingly new take on the wine experience, Kim Crawford Illuminate New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc White Wine is light in style, yet satisfyingly flavorful. This Kim Crawford sauvignon blanc bestows aromas of passionfruit and guava with hints of citrus. The full flavor and crisp acidity of this elegant white wine are highlighted by a fresh herbal and citrus finish. Carefully chosen, sun-ripened New Zealand grapes undergo cold-soaking prior to fermentation and treatment with Spinning Cone technology, which removes a portion of the alcohol without impacting the aroma or taste of this New Zealand white wine. The result is a lower calorie*, reduced alcohol wine with satisfying aroma and taste in each glass of wine. Compared to Kim Crawford's original sauvignon blanc with 120 calories per serving and 13% ABV, this easy-drinking, lower alcohol wine has only 70 calories per serving and 7.0% ABV, yet this 100% sauvignon blanc wine still boasts Kim Crawford's signature quality and style. Mtn2Sea Posted January 26 #23 Share Posted January 26 We stopped in Punta Arenas, our port of the day, in January 2018 while aboard the Zaandam. The locals say it’s the southern most city on the continent of South America, which differentiates itself from Ushuaia, Argentina, which is said to be the most southern city in South America, but is technically on Tierra del Fuego, a very large island. Our excursion for the day took us to an outdoor museum that has several replicas of ships that sailed in this area. The first was Magellan’s Victoria, which was the only ship out of the original five to complete the circumnavigation. The second ship was the Beagle, which had Charles Darwin as a passenger on its second voyage. The third ship was Henry Shackelton’s Ancud, which was used to explore Antarctica. After climbing around the ships, we then rode about an hour to visit the National Strait of Magellan Park. We walked around a small museum/interpretation center and then visited Fort Bulnes. The Captain announced that we had wind gusts that night which reached 90 knots - I wouldn’t know since I was sound asleep. 29
Mr. Boston Posted January 26 #24 Share Posted January 26 Good morning everyone. Thanks for the daily updates. We’re having @Crazy For Cats’s weather all day today, a gloomy day. Some nice days to celebrate today but while I can appreciate a dentist’s drill I certainly won’t get jazzed by one! The quote is funny and sensible at the same time. The sounds tasty. The drink is a nice summer refresher or maybe on a warm weather cruise. I haven’t been to today’s port. Praying for those on our prayer list. Cheers to those celebrating happy events today! 🎉
aliaschief Posted January 26 #25 Share Posted January 26 Good morning. We moved our clocks back an hour last night so back on Central. We’ll do it again tonight. We had a lovely Chefs dinner last night. First time they offered this meal. Tomorrow night they are having a special dinner for the World Voyagers. It will be another first so we will have to wait and see what they have planned. They are keeping it a secret. My food porn pics have not yet transferred from phone to I Pad yet. Not sure you’re interested in seeing more pics from another line? My first decision of the day is to get up and go get some coffee or go back to bed for another hour? The Filipino band had us up and dancing a little too late last night. Thanks for the Fleet Report and May all of you enjoy TGIF.
