suzyluvs2cruise Posted March 3 #1 Share Posted March 3 (edited) After a few years away from Princess we're just home from the Feb 24 -Mar 2 '24 Mexico cruise. We booked a Reserve Collection Mini-Suite with Premier Package. We really enjoyed the cruise but do have a Questions/Observations about advertised Amenities/Services. Questions... 1. Welcome glass of Bubbly - where is this offered? 2. Premium Evening Canapes upon request. While this wasn't something we wanted how would one go about ordering these? Nothing in the cabin about it nor did our Cabin Attendant ask/offer. 3. Premier Pkg offers "unlimited casual dining meals". Ocean Terrace (DH is allergic to fish/seafood so not an option for us) and Gigi's were the only 2 available as the Salty Dog Gastropub turned into the Crab Shack the 3 Sea Days. Disappointing as we would have like to try this for lunch. Is this typical? Observations... 1. Reserve Collection Dining was outstanding! and definitely a great perk. Food and service was great and being able to go when we wanted was a definite perk we enjoyed. 2. Princess Luxury Bed - let me just say that I'm looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight. 3. Great cabin location 4. We used the touch screen outside the cabin and indicated "service requested" when we left the room...at about 8:15am each morning. Cabin was not done until 11-11:30 each day. We did not see the cabin attendant on day 1 and were in the cabin from about 3:30 - 5:00. We finally tracked him down as we left the cabin on day 2 for pre-dinner drinks. 5. "Complimentary one-time wine set-up on Embarkation Day". There was a bottle of red wine but no glasses. 6. Specialty dining was in Crown Grill & Sabatini's. Service and Food was excellent in both restaurants. 7. Gigi's was a nice venue for embarkation lunch and another time during the cruise when the MDR wasn't open. 8. Lots of music around the ship. It was especially nice to be able to have a pre-dinner drink @ 5:30 pm with musica. Cola Sounds, Mockingbird, Terry McPhee and the Mariachi Band were all good. 9. Loved the wine offerings with Premier Pkg and also that the wine was served in a nice, larger glass. We return to Discovery in 2 weeks for the 15 night Hawaii Cruise and are looking forward to another great experience! memoak Posted March 3 #2 Share Posted March 3 As far as I know the champagne on embarkation is for full suites. Most ships have only between 2-3 casual dining locations so that is fairly typical Salty Dog Gastropub is usually only open in the evenings on most ships
avonlady6390 Posted March 3 #3 Share Posted March 3 The mini suites are supposed to have a glass each of champagne that has been my experience on the couple of times having a mini suite. It sounds like your cabin steward was not very good or inexperienced hopefully your next cruise you'll get a more attentive steward.
reedprincess Posted March 3 #4 Share Posted March 3 Every time I've been in a mini-suite - the glass of bubbly was brought to the cabin by the cabin steward on day 1, usually before sailaway. The premium canapes are ordered by a card that's supposed to be in your cabin - or your steward provides. Sounds like the steward was really not on their game - no wine glasses and opener, no canape order forms, no bubbles, etc. not great. Salty Dog Gastropub is basically a dinner venue on the ships that have it, not a lunch venue. Same for several of the other venues like Planks, Steamers, etc. Hopefully your next sailing is smoother. And yeah, not a fan of the beds either - but some love them! Lol. Happy sails.
Rare fpsphil Posted March 3 #5 Share Posted March 3 The glass of champagne is 50/50 I feel. Our experience in M6 minis is we rarely get it (1 out of 4 times) but on the grand class in a mini we always receive it. Might just be because of the location and the fact there are very few minis up on the front of the royal class ships the stewards just simply forget
Rare KarmaCruisers Posted March 3 #6 Share Posted March 3 On the other Royal class ships, the beds are soooooft! But for some reason on the discovery they switched to a FIRM mattress…(having sailed on Royal, Regal, Sky, and Discovery)

Trust me when I say that the stuff is not drinkable. Yuck! You are better off going to one of the bars and using your Premier package for a "real" glass of Champagne. 🥂

We too were on Discovery this past november in a regular mini suite and bubbly was delivered the minute we entered. If you request canapes on the phone front desk if you can't find your attendent....they will see you get them.
Rare cr8tiv1 Posted March 3 #10 Share Posted March 3 Between the "champagne" and canapés, it is a toss up to which is worse. I decline both. It was nice when you could substitute chocolate covered strawberries or profiteroles.

I don't eat Strawberries (just the chocolate), but my nearly minted cabin mates "seem" to be impressed. And like you, they magically appear as a separate order several times during the voyage. suzyluvs2cruise Posted March 3 Author #13 Share Posted March 3 Thanks for all the responses. I was only asking about the how/when/where for Champagne and Canapes as they were noted as Amenities and were something we weren't offered or saw anything about. Definitely didn't miss anything by not having them but if it's supposed to be a Perk of a Reserve Mini-Suite it should at least be offered. We had a nice glass of what we wanted and enjoyed all the great wine offerings on the Premier pkg.
