Didn't know I had to cash out of casino?

Recommended Posts

Hi.  Does anyone know how to get a check mailed for what I "cashed out" from a casino machine? First time on Princess (and not a gambler) and I didn't realize I had to go to cashier to get what I "'cashed out".  I thought it went back to the room where I charged it from.  My fault for not checking Folio before I disembarked. After explaining the whole story to six different agents who don't have a clue, I'm ready to just let the money go, it wasn't that much.  I will probably never cruise Princess again since I didn't care for the Sky Princess. TIA

Not sure about Princess, but on HAL people have said that eventually you will have a cheque issued to you if you left a balance and it is above a certain amount (pretty low from what I recall).

Thanks for the email.  I mentioned "never cruise princess again" because that eliminates the chance to get the credit back onboard. Also, what details are missing? In Princess boards, mentioned ship name.

Casinos are independent of the Princess ship… Cash out - means cash out, not future OBC.

By going through parent company’s Executive Office gives a little bit more strength to the potential of a successful resolution.

Good luck

Two comments.

Princess does not operate the casinos they are leased.  The same as when on land - cash out when you move to a different  machine and know the cash out slip is only good for a limited time.

Did not like Sky?  Princess has lots of different classes of ships.

Last I have a $40 slip from Emerald Princess from Christmas 2022.  Today worth nothing but a souvenir.

If it's like my experience you will eventually receive a check in the mail.  Happened to me many moons ago.  I don't recall the timeline, it wasn't quick, I'd written off the amount it wasn't much and I couldn't even be bothered to make a phone call, so it was just kind of a surprise when a check showed up in the mail weeks/months after the cruise.  I didn't do anything to request it.

If you didn’t cash out wouldn’t that mean credits were sitting on the machine?  Wouldn’t the next person to play same machine use them?  Just a question, I really don’t know the answer.

I think the OP cased out to a ticket, which would return the machine back to $0 but then never went to the cashier to get cash for the ticket.

Princess does not have tickets. You have a room account and a casino account they are separate. If a machine is not played for more than a few minutes it will put the money onto the casino account. When we were both quarantined and unable to cash out we contacted our CVP who worked with customer services and we got a check mailed to us but it took about a month

Oops  - correct - HAL works the same, and as long as you pull your player card (even if you forget to "cash out") it goes back to your player account.

This is a reminder of things veteran cruisers pick up and remember that newer cruisers sometimes do not. When I went on my first Carnival cruise a decade ago, there were multiple warnings both in the newsletter (printed on papyrus) and through announcements (we each had a tin can attached to rope to hear them) that we needed to cash out our casino balance before disembarking, otherwise we would have to wait for a check whenever TPTB in Miami got around to it. Other cruise lines have done something similar, including Princess.

In addition, one wrinkle on Carnival is that casino balances under $10 are forfeited and added and eventually sent to their pet charity. Princess may or may not do this.

Good luck getting your money back. I have faith that you will, though it might be a while. 🙏

Not necessarily. Princess machines cash out to the passenger's casino bank, which is separate from their onboard account. That casino bank has to be cashed out separately at the end of the cruise, which is where our OP got into trouble.

And there are multiple announcements the last day about when the casino will close and it is usually in the patter as well

There is a website you go to to claim it back, I won the Bingo twice and forgot to check out but got my money back a few months later, was about $600. I will see if I can find it.

Found it Ocean Players Club – Global Casino Rewards Program

It does say this in the correspondence:

Please note: At the end of every voyage, we process any funds that were left in the player's bank account. Funds in excess of $25 will automatically be issued via a check to the address we have on file in a Carnival Cruise Line envelope.
Any balance below $25 will be processed manually upon request

If you still have not received the outstanding balance check, and it is outside of the 6 weeks, please submit a new request: Balance Inquiry. Our agents will review your case and advise any updates regarding your check.

Please provide the correct mailing address within the form to verify it was sent to the correct address.

We’ve even gotten phone calls in our room to make sure we cash out.

I had quite a bit in the casino and didn't realize it wouldn't open between Victoria and Vancouver. D'Oh! They sent me a check for the full amount. I can't remember how long it took - maybe 3 weeks or so.

On the cruise where I ended up with money "stuck" in the slots there were no announcements (at least none that I or my wife or our friends heard) and nothing in the Patter. I have also received "reminder calls" in the cabin but, on that trip, there was nothing. I was not at all pleased when I went to cash out the next to the last day and found the casino wasn't open because they don't go far enough out to sea between Victoria and Vancouver. Lesson learned. At least they did send me the money but I had counted on having that cash for tips to various crew members.

That same itinerary caught us off guard, too!  Although, we hadn’t had any money in our casino account.  It was just onboard credit.
We had almost $200 left and were actually going to gamble with it but neither the casino or shops were open that last day and a half.  I spent an insane amount of money on eye cream at the spa was the only place I could spend it and their appointments were completely full.  We tried to donate it to the crew aboard the Royal but even that wasn’t allowed.  We could just donate it back to Princess.  Live and learn!
We’ve always gotten messages on our in cabin phone if we had money left on our casino account.

Apparently it must have been non-refundable OBC. If you have refundable OBC left they will mail it to you. At the end of our recent trip I had $657 AUD Refundable OBC left. I didn't want to take it our as AUD so I just waited and in maybe a month or so they sent me a check for $428 USD. The exchange rate of $0.65 per dollar was pretty much what I saw online at the time.

Hmmm, why would you suggest an American guest write Carnival in the UK?  If the OP feels a letter is required at some point, write CustomerRelations@PrincessCruises.com

99% of the time, but not always.  That's why you should always hit the "cash out to card" button and wait for your credits to zero out.

One of my sisters and I enjoy gambling. I haven't been on a ship since 2018 with my husband when we travelled on the Celebrity Summit. We are cruising with Princess on Enchanted this Summer. My sister doesn't want the gambling to go on her credit card. I can't for the life of me remember how we paid for gambling on a cruise ship. Can we bring a cash amount and put that on our casino account to gamble with? Thanks to anyone who can give me a quick reminder of how it works to pay for gambling. Happy travels!
