Spice H20...no more smoking?

Recommended Posts

Spice H20 on the Joy is completely nonsmoking since the drydock. The updated deck plan showing the (mostly) enclosed smoking area near the pool is also correct. Some smell does get out of course if you walk nearby, but it really reduced the amount of smoke in the area.

So...umm...yea...back to the topic? Without the judgment?

Can you smoke in Spice H2O or not? What has been the experience of those that have cruised in, say, the last three to four weeks?

looks like the FAQs has been updated and no longer has H2O has a valid smoking location on the joy

Wearing too much perfume doesn't kill thousands of people per year who don't wear too much perfume.

Having bad breath doesn't kill thousands of people per year who don't have bad breath.

The act of not bathing regularly doesn't kill thousands of people per year who do bathe regularly.

Cigarette smoke does kill thousands of people per year who don't smoke. That's worse than rude, unfortunate, or offensive...combined. ☠️

I am not a smoker, but I'm always impressed with how strongly some people react to others being allowed to smoke in some outdoors areas on cruise ships.

Do you realize that you're on a floating power plant that burns fossil fuels, and the smoke stack is right above your head?  Ever notice all the soot on the aft of the ship?  It's not from cigarettes.

If health and air quality is a major concern, cruising is not a good choice.

Depends on what type of ship you are on.  About 2/3 of new builds are LNG.

Cruise ships have internal combustion engines that produce exhaust in order to function.

Human beings DO NOT require cigarettes in order to function and DO NOT need to produce cigarette smoke.

A step in the right direction (when they actually use LNG), but it still does not result in "clean air"

I am ok with having smoking areas outside.  I just steer clear of those areas.
I don’t understand why they still allow smoking in the casino though.  I stink of smoke after I play in casino.  I have to shower as soon as I get back to cabin.  It is only a matter of time before they will make the casino non smoking.  On our last cruise there was a smoker out on their balcony somewhere close to ours.  Only smelled it the first day thank goodness.

The pool deck is an 'open venue', as is the sun deck, yet smoking is banned in those locations...

It is clear that you can`t allow smoking on the whole ship.So you have to create designated smoking areas. And to me the best option for such areas are outside locations. Cause then you have the least possible impact on other cruisers. Anywhere inside it takes much more effort(and in the end money) to prevent the smoke from spreading to much.

thats what i wanted to say. And also as the spice H2O is an adults only area it is even more perfect as smoking area.

You can`t allow smoking on the whole ship so you have to create designated smoking areas. At outside locations the impact on other cruisers is much lower than at any inside location. Inside you have to take much more efforts(and money) to prevent the smoke from spreading too wide.

And as the spice H2O also is an adults only area(at least throughout the day) it is the perfect smoking area.

Thats why i would be surprised if NCL would ban smokers from the spice H2O.

  • 4 weeks later...

Just off the Joy there is no smoking in Spice H20. Smoking was allowed in the casino enclosed area the smoke jail on the pool deck and cigars in the humidor. The did not create the area near the humidor for cigarettes' like originally announced.

Sounds like you can't but I'll be able to confirm for certain in 18 days --  on the Getaway at least 🙂

To me, it would make the most sense to have smoking in Spice H2O as it's the back of the ship and, particularly while the ship is moving, the smoke would stream off the back over the ocean.

but it's still allowed on the Getaway.  It was the Joy that smoking at Spice was removed

Ok, thanks. I wasn't sure... I thought I read somewhere that this was going to be fleetwide...eventually anyway.

And according to this on the Joy they DID NOT create a smoking lounge next to the cigar lounge like someone posted.

There is an enclosed smoking room within the casino. Perhaps someone was confused and thought the Humidor was near that? 🤷‍♀️

Was on the Joy last week and can confirm no smoking in Spice H2O. It was nice because smoke used to drift across the whole area, not just straight back off the ship.

There is a enclosed area of the casino for smokers, just like Bliss, Encore, Prima and Viva. They do make announcements that if you want to be in there smoking, you must be playing (you could hear it across the whole casino). The immediate area outside of it did smell smoky as the door was opened and closed often.

There is also a semi enclosed plexiglass box on the port side of the pool area for smokers (no door). And outside of the Humidor (near the entrance to Food Republic) there is a sign stating it is a no smoking area. I honestly never saw anyone in the Humidor when I walked by and at most maybe 10 people in the box at a time. In my experience, very few smokers on this cruise, which was nice.

Yeah, everyone was expecting Getaway would be no smoking at Spice H2O after the dry dock, but reports from passengers that last weeks weeks confirm no change there.

Just got off Getaway and they had enclosed smoking on pool deck you could still smell the terrible order. Thank goodness no smoking in H2O area it’s much too small of an area.

when I was there there was no one smoking I couldn’t say it was banned there.

if. It’s a small area I would think it should be banned. Even with the enclosed area on pool deck the smell was awful so always walked on other side.

I just shake my head!! Smoking areas on any ship are very very limited! Outdoor area is perfect spot, Spice H2O is confined to a very small area on side of bar, please if one is sitting all the way on the other side outdoors and they are whinging about smoke imo they are being melodramatic, get over it!

As far as ships going totally non smoking I don’t see it happening anytime soon! Asians, Europeans and Israelis smoke, a lot, and many in that demographic are the big spenders, especially in casino on the ships!

If smoke bothers some steer clear of smoking areas, you have a whole big ship, smokers are confined.

All that said I do not condone smoking on balconies or prohibited areas of ship.

I'm not a smoker. I did grow up in a family of smokers - I'm legit the only person in my family (other than my husband) that doesn't smoke. So, perhaps I'm biased, but smoking areas need to be allowed. I agree with the melodramatic piece. Get over it, indeed!

There's plenty of cruise ship to explore. If you just can't tolerate the smell of smoke, the 40 square foot area at the aft of the ship won't kill you. I do question some of the forward smoking areas as that smoke will drift, but heck, it's not worse (and probably better) than inhaling the exhaust of the ship. Why don't more folks complain about that?
