I’m coming to the conclusion that the choices for minis will be either a cramped room or a cramped balcony.

You might have to be very lucky to find one available, but you might look at the Reserve Mini-suites MID-Forward) on Deck 10.    Just forward of the large extended balcony Deluxe cabin.

Also took pics from one that was made up.

Would you happen to remember what the cabin number was of the one “that was made up”?

We’ve booked 3 cabana cabins on deck 10 with family and know that at least one of the ones on either side of us has a connecting door. My thought was that the connection might be through the cabana, or balcony. I would be happier with one that has a connecting door inside the stateroom so our 4 & 6yr old grandsons can come and go from our room without having to go out on the balcony.

Staying at the St. Regis in Rome. Got upgraded to a suite. Booked the lowest room with points. Status and points from all my work trips staying at mediocre hotels pays off when taking a vacation. Tried booking this room for a day next week and it’s €2K a night! 😳

Thanks for the photos of the Deluxe Balcony in the Sphere Deck 14.

Have a Q.

On the first photo of the balcony the right wall of the balcony seems to curve in.

Is that so or is that a photo illusion.

Thanks.

That’s not an optical illusion. The cabin is on the outer edge of the sphere so one side of our balcony is deeper than the other.  I imagine there’s a slight curve to all the balconies on sphere cabins but not as significant as those on the outer edges.

Discovery has a white composite material railing which as I recall the author said was the same type of material on Sun but had a simulated wood appearance instead of white.

I understand, however, we have never been on any Princess ship with anything other than the wood. I appreciate your post. Even the Sky, last June, had the wood.

I am curious whether Princess has finally added electrical outlets near the nightstands on this new ship? Most of us have things to plug in within reach.

Yes, there is a U.S.-style outlet, a USB port and a USB-C port on each side

That's where I am placing my money.

Confirmed. Cabin to Cabana, regular slider. Cabana to Balcony, folding doors.

So think of the Cabana as your “deck” before the balcony.

I will say the celebrity E class ships have large SV cabins and balconies. We loved ours on Beyond which is pretty much a mirror image of Ascent.

I saw some videos of those SV balcony cabins and was pretty impressed with the size and layout.

I haven’t sailed on the Sun yet but I’ve sailed on many of the Princess Royal class ships. I also just did my first Celebrity cruise last month in a Sunset Veranda on the Ascent. If I were in your shoes I would definitely book the Ascent! The ship is amazing and the SV is one of my favorite cabins ever. I really thought this would be my only X cruise prior to stepping foot on the ship but after sailing in a SV I’m sold on the Edge class ships. We had already booked another SV for next year before we departed the Ascent.

I’m leaning toward the Ascent at this point, the only thing holding me back is that a cabana mini on Sun for 15 days is the same price as the SV on Ascent for only 13 days. This is with Plus on the Sun and AI on Ascent, so there’s also gratuities to consider which are no longer included fleetwide on X.

Interesting. I could have sworn I saw a video or someone on the cabana deck said both were folding. Someone on our cruise said they opened the “whole cabin to the outside” to cool it down, but maybe they just meant the slider. I’m going to some digging.

You’re probably remembering one of the earlier promotional videos where the animated renderings did in fact show that the interior cabana doors would also fold away.  In fact, one of the selling points for me was that presentation, which specifically said that you could use the cabana to make either the balcony or the cabin larger depending on which doors you opened.  Obviously this part of the design was walked back….along with the better quality cabana furniture, wooden dividers between cabana deck balconies and clear rather than blue glass on deck 9.

One of my favorite places in Rome; nowhere else in the world can you see two portraits of the same person (Pope Innocent X) by both the greatest painter and the greatest sculptor of their time and perhaps of all time (Velázquez and Bernini). That little room is one of the Meccas of art.

I’m also heading to Rome next week! Enjoy your stay 😊

Exactly!

I finally made it to Good Spirits. It’s tucked between Princess Live and The Arena, so unless you’re going to the starboard side of the Arena on Deck 7, it’s easy to miss. I wish I’d have gone there earlier! Loved the spot. Had a Vanilla Sky, which was really fresh tasting. They said they squeeze all their juices fresh in the bar. I didn’t notice any prices on the menu, so I have no idea how much they were. The Vanilla Sky must have fit under the $15 Plus limit, since I wasn’t charged anything.

I bought one too!

It's the hottest selling item on Amazon this week.  Ours arrives today.  We got one mainly for inside our condo here in FL.  Have one at northern home that reads the outside as well.  Down here, I'd like to be able to get humidity readings anywhere inside besides what our NEST thermostat indicates.

We’ve got one of the 4 for our 2 weeks in November. Hoping the balcony is a bit larger than the standard mini-suite balcony. It appears to be larger from the deck plan but I won’t believe it until I see it.

The only time it’s felt crowded is trying to walk around deck 7 of the Piazza during the Captain’s Party. I think half the ship was crammed in there. Other than that, not at all. I will say that we avoid peak times for things, so maybe that helped.
