Sea day suggestions

Recommended Posts

Hi y'all,  I'm going on a reposition cruise that will have FIVE  consecutive sea days. I went on an Alaskan cruise that only had one, and I was so bored!

Can y'all suggest some fun sea day activities to do so I don't lose my mind? I'll be on the Norwegian Sun so there's not a lot of outdoor activities like on the larger ships...thanks in advance for helping keep this West Virginia gal sane!

Download a series from Netflix or Hulu or whatever and watch some episodes

Utilize the gym 2x a day.

Find a comfortable nook and read.

Purchase the wifi package and browse.

Take naps

We are currently on the Spirit Reposition from Sydney to Tahiti.  We have a few sea days.  Above is what I do.  I don't like Deal or no deal, the shows, trivia, drinking, pool.  I am having a great time.  I am in an inside but we have found a niche on Deck 13 where we hang.

Try to schedule something each day. Like do a specialty restaurant one night, maybe the next day hit the gym, next day do the art auction if that’s your thing, maybe a show day, etc.

Having something planned makes it feel

like a “complete” day to me, at the end of the day. Just sitting around the pool pounding drinks all day can be fun but I always try to do something else.

I don't drink and the pool deck will be too chilly until we get far enough south. But I love the gym suggestions,  I've never been on a ship long enough to visit them. I walk every day on the promenade deck, so I'll do it twice instead of once...got to work all that extra cruise food off!

I would buy the spa pass for the duration of the cruise. Take a few books with you and read in a thermal lounger, alternating with hot tub dips.

Eat, Drink, Nap.

Wash, Rinse, Repeat.

But seriously, you're on a ship in the middle of a beautiful ocean.  Just chill and watch the waves go by.  Maybe you'll spot a whale.  Life isn't about always having something to do.  Sometimes nothing is a real cool hand.

disclaimer: I stole that from a fantastic movie.

  • Bring a deck of cards or other portable/travel game that you can play. We have a travel cribbage board that we sometimes bring with us that takes up almost no room at all in our luggage. Cards Against Humanity or another card-based game would be fun if you were traveling with a small group.
  • Organize a card game or find someone to play chess or checkers (usually available in the library or game room)
  • Read a book
  • Take a class, if one is offered
  • Knit, crochet, or do some sort of craft that doesn't require a lot of space or equipment
  • Walk
  • Visit the gym
  • Attend a yoga or stretch class
  • Go to the trivia events
  • Go to the casino and learn how to play a new table game
  • Do the daily sudoku or crossword puzzles (usually available in the library or card room)
  • Take photos around the ship
  • Practice making towel animals
  • Listen to live music and go to the performances in the evening
  • Make some friends onboard and hang out with them
  • Make friends with some of the crew and ask them about where they are from
  • Take a "behind the scenes" tour, if one is offered
  • Wander the gallery
  • Attend the onboard parties
  • Go to an art auction
  • Play bingo or Deal or No Deal
  • Watch a movie in your room or on the big screen
  • Get a spa treatment
  • Get a professional portrait taken
  • Soak in the hot tub

I usually hit the gym when it opens because that's me.  Also in the afternoons starting at 1pm on is when I do round 2 on sea days.  I also like walking (sometimes, if no one around, jogging) on the promenade deck.  Taking a class is also nice.  There is class passes and some free ones.

I downloaded a lot of Agatha Christies for this sailing and have been reading quite a bit.  We also have been editing pictures as well that we have taken.  There are some free art classes onboard I believe, and coloring I heard.  Dancing lessons I noticed one day.

If you were so miserable with one sea day, why did you book a cruise with five?

This is what I was wondering too.  I love sea days and have no problem staying busy. I also take a day and just relax...sleep, order room service, read, just de-stress.

The sea day in Alaska was so foggy you couldn't see 5 feet from the boat. It was so disorienting it felt like we were going in circles. If it's clear I do enjoy watching for whales. Thanks!

Haha! I wondered the same thing. I chose it because I couldn't decide whether to go to Alaska or Hawaii,  and since this cruise goes both places I didn't have to pick. I also wanted to give sea days another chance and I DO need to learn how to chill...I figure this will cure me or kill me!

I did this on the last cruise. Wasn't cheap, but worth every penny! My roommate didn't, but loved the benefit of having the shower to herself since I used the roomy luxurious rainshower in the spa.

There are 12 step program meetings available, usually in the afternoons on sea days.  You need not be an alcoholic or addict to attend, perhaps you have family members who could benefit from attendance.  Could help you to understand these diseases.

I take Sea days as a way to recharge.. and slow down..

During my last cruise they were very needed after few days of early rises..

I also enjoy reading a book and partaking in all the games and quizes..

Ps: I believe we are on the same cruise (i saw you in the roll call..) so..if you are ever bored, come by for a chat 😊

YES!  This.  The spa pass is just my "excursion" on each cruise, because I don't go on any ship excursions.  So I use my excursion money for my daily trip to the spa.  I plan my mornings to start in the spa, and my evenings to end in the spa.  I never use the tiny cabin bathroom to get ready for the day, or to get ready for bed. You know how the balcony people will say that they can't go back to an interior cabin?  I can't go back to just having a cruise without a spa pass.

I download games on my tablet that don't require internet access, before I leave, so I have a variety of games to play, read, listen to my music, and watch the world go by from the promenade deck. Look for any classes, activities that interest might interest you.  Go for walks, go to the gym, and just walk around the ship, in between. I try to keep busy, so I don't just go eat out of boredom, which is too easy to do on a cruise.

People watch. It’s like whale watching, but can be much more entertaining.

I like watching whales much more.  Heck, I like watching waves much more.  And clouds, and....

Since so many are mentioning the spa, I just wanted to say from reviews of the Sun I’ve read it does not have a thermal suite. So no stone loungers etc. and since it is different there were no pre-cruise purchases in the review I read.

For things to do-how about taking us a long on a live 😜? I joke but I would totally read a Hawaii to Alaska cruise.

Things I do: knit or other crafts, sudoku and other puzzles, trivia, reading. I’ve done a transatlantic and ended up taking more naps than one would expect, the constant time changes do get to you.

The Sun is an older, smaller ship. There is a front lounge to read.  Buffet is small but breakfast and lunch items port side in separate venue.
