Obc to be used for gratuities

I got 2 different answers as to whether carnival stock and other obc could be used for gratuities. Have not been on this line since before Covid so am asking what cc members have found

Pretty sure you can use onboard credit for anything that gets charged to your account. It’s not designated to what it goes for. If you have $100 in onboard credit and you have $100 worth of charges( i.e. gratuities -because you’re on standard fare or drinks or photos, or excursions,etc.that you owe to the cruise line, it gets taken off line by line, if that makes any sense

All OBC is combined in your folio, as far as I know. The gratuity is subtracted each day unless you no longer have a balance, then it is added to the charge at the end of the cruise.

Yes, absolutely!  Whatever you charge OB and Gratuities will come off your OBC on your folio automatically.

Ditto here. Yes. Of course if you have the plus or premier fares gratuities are included in the fare.

@stephenSJ The benefit page has said this for as long as I can remember (and that’s a long time lol). It means nothing,  What others have said is correct.  All charges net against all OBC in your folio.  No differentiation.

This has been the text for at least 15 to 20 years. Shareholder OBC has always been consolidated with other OBC in the onboard account. All onboard expenses including casino, and gratuities net against the OBC as they occur. If a change is coming to Princess then it's not because of a change of the text in the shareholder benefit. While not directly transferrable, when accounts are linked against the same credit card, ie husband/wife, the two accounts balance together. Expenses or credits on one will net against expanses and credits on the other.
