We are going on the adv June 1st for b/b cruise to celebrate our 67th annv. We picked this ship because our daughter & son in law will be on the 2nd cruise & we want to surprise them. Now for my question, the reviews for the ship have been not the best we have ever read. We are both in our late 80s ' (89 & 85 ) & we heard that the ship is hard to get around in, the casino is crowded & you have squeeze thru the aisles to to the theater or just to walk thru the casino, true or not??. My wife is in wheel chair & dosent mind playing the slots can she?? Please be honest is she going to have a hard time on the ship??

Less walking than a larger ship. Some people find a elevator that  makes  noise or rust someplace and act like its the whole ship. It isnt a new ship but I booked it b2b dec 2024, xmas cruise. The one before went to eastern. These smaller ships can do ports the larger ships dont visit. Xmas I'm in grand bahamas. Been over 20 years since I've seen it. Didnt know it even went there, but it was xmas so I booked it and the eastern which has new port for me. DR.

We did b2b for two weeks on Adventure last fall.  Your only issue with the wheel chair will be

get space on the elevators.  Also some of the tables in the main dining room are pretty close together.  Hopefully your room is close to the rear elevator bank.

Ignore reviews for any ship that's not Oasis class or newer.

Adventure is a fine ship, even for someone in a wheelchair.

If you're trying to go to the theater, I would avoid going through the casino and Schooner Bar to get there. It gets very narrow and crowded in that section of the Schooner Bar, especially if there is an event (trivia, piano player, etc.) happening in there. IMO, it will be difficult to navigate with a wheelchair. I don't think you'll have issues anywhere else on the ship.

It has been a few years since we have sailed Royal..lately we have sailed Celebrity. I am not sure if you have set seating or select dining...  but when you board the ship..you might want to go down to the dining room and talk to the staff to see if your party can get a table with relatively easy access. I have done that before on Celebrity. Given that you are surprising family... this might be a bit more complicated...but at least get a lay of the land before dinner.

 

My husband needs a scooter due to bad knees... and since it has been 20 years since we have been on this ship... I have had some of the same concerns. I think we can navigate around the casino... my issues are crowds at Windjammer, elevators and table at dinner. What I usually do is scout out paths around the ship.. to make things easier. One idea would be to look at the deck plan and see if you can find alternate routes. If I recall slots tend to be on the edge of the casino... so that should be doable....perhaps limit selection of machines..  Have fun...

We sailed on Adventure twice in April. The ship is in good shape and easy to get around because it's not too big. We found the crew to be very friendly. 

 

The casino, however, has the most machines per square foot than I've ever seen on a cruise ship. During peak times some of the aisles are impossible to go through. There is a path through the casino that's wide enough for a wheelchair or scooter, but it's not marked. The good news is that your wife will be able to play slots in the casino as long as she sticks to the ones that are easier to get to.

We were on Adventure in Feb and loved it.  She is in fine shape and the staff are amazing.  However, one complaint that might be accurate is the Casino is a little tight.  I don't have to navigate with a wheelchair so it's tough for me to judge how hard that will be.  I saw folks with scooters there playing the machines but I don't know how much effort was required to get them set up in their spot.  

 

One way to avoid having to pass through the Casino to get to the theatre is to take the elevator to deck 5 then cross over through the promenade and then take the forward elevator down to the 3rd floor.

 

It might seem like a little bit of hassle but it would probably be worth it to avoid the hassle.

We were recently on the Adventure and will be on her again to do a B2B for NYE & January. I need to use a scooter for prolonged walking/standing. I did avoid crowds, such as the casino & WJ. DH can't enter the casino anyway due to lung issues with smoke and we both preferred to eat all of our meals in the MDR, specialty restaurant, or other options besides the WJ. The worst elevator times are the 1st and last day of the cruise, as passengers tend to crowd into the elevators with loads of luggage; however, my DH runs point for me and, when it's our turn to get into an empty or less full elevator, he makes sure that I get in (I always wait my turn).

Visit the MDR on the day you board to let them know that your spouse is in a wheelchair and you would like to have easy access to your table; I am sure they will accommodate you.

Yes, avoid the casino at night as it gets very congested, especially when the show lets out.  The layout is very poor, and many areas aren't accessible due to the tight and irregular machine placement and bodies playing.  In many sections you even have a difficult time walking through or sitting at a machine if someone is playing the one across from each other/you.There are machines nearer the Schooner bar that are more easily accessed (but that bar as has been mentioned can be a challenge at times as well).  Best to time your playing times "off cycle".

Yes, used for 3 pickleball courts in AM, basketball, volleyball etc at other times

We did a B2B on Adventure in February and another B2B on her in April. DW has mobility issues, and she never had any problem navigating anywhere on the ship - including the Casino (but that's probably because we walked out of the Casino with about $500 more than we walked in with on both B2Bs). 😇 The casino can get a bit congested around the slot machines, but from what we've seen, that is more because some people think that they are the only ones there and that their family can block the aisles while watching them lose their money.

 

We have B3B's booked on Adventure in July and October, and love the ship.
