3 People in Room, Only 2 have Plus Package

 Share

Recommended Posts

We're booked on an upcoming Princess Cruise, and when I booked I told them we wanted the Princess Plus package for all 3 of us in the cabin, assuming that it had to be that way. I just looked at my booking and see that Princess Plus was only applied to 2 people in the cabin, not the 3rd one. What would prevent a person from getting a bar drink and passing it to the other person that is not on the package? I thought it was odd for it to not be applied as every other cruise line applied the drink package to everyone in the room.

We are in the same boat with my 15 year old. I’m guessing that’s just how they book it we were not given a different option & we also prepaid his gratuities. He doesn’t drink much other than water or lemonade but I’m sure I’ll use mine for an occasional juice bar drink for him.

Then you would be breaking the rules of your package

If I could buy him a package, I probably would have. I bought it for convenience & will definitely not be saving $ as I don’t drink alcohol. 🤷🏻‍♀️

That is a lot of money to spend for convenience when you don’t drink. Who told you he could not have a package ?  There is also a no alcohol plan as well

@kaiiak Your TA or Princess rep can add a package to your 3rd passenger.  Or you could purchase it on embarkation day.  You would need to cancel your pre-paid crew appreciation since it is included in the package.

I do agree with some of your thoughts.  Often, I find it just easier to have the Plus package then worry about what I am going to order.  And that is in addition to the 2 mini bars I get in my cabin.  Sometimes, not always.

I am traveling with my two granddaughters next summer. When I realized that only myself and one granddaughter had the package I called my CVP and had him add a package for second granddaughter. They are both under 16 years old. I did the calculations and it is still worth it for us.
OP you can add the 3rd passenger just call Princess.

to each his own. We've done our calcs as well, and it's not even worth it to get Plus for the 2 adults, let alone our 13 yo. But other people get premier packages for their teens, because they have money to burn. So, to each his own.

We needed to have our 14 year old added, not an issue. Could have waited until we boarded. He does like soda, juice and bottled water. This way tips are done, two casual dinners (it would be a charge otherwise), and most importantly WiFi 😀. His parents spent a small fortune on NCL last time when he was 13.

The Princess website states only the first 2 passengers on a booking are required to have the same package, if one is buying a package.

If there are 3rd or 4th passengers in the same cabin, it is optional and you need to call Princess or your TA to get it added to the additional passengers.

In your case, yes, one passenger with package can order a drink and pass to passenger3 who does not have drink package. It is breaking the rules and getting caught could mean the package is voided without refund.

Other cruise line DO have a policy that ALL occupants need to have the same package, but currently Princess only requires passenger 1 and 2.

Thanks for the explanation, I was thinking of the other cruise lines we booked on where everyone was required to have the package.

Enjoy the advantage of being able to discretely utilize the package for the third person. It's one way of adding value to their overpriced package.

You can purchase separately the  Soda package and pay for the tips for the 3rd person and share the WiFi.

I don’t drink alcohol or coffee and purchase separately the Soda package, tips and WiFi.

If you want the Plus for the 3rd person, call Princess or ask your agent to add to booking.

It's also the way that causes Princess to change the rules and pricing of the packages for the rest of us who choose to follow the rules of the package.

If you get caught sharing, the package is canceled and they retroactively charge you for each and every drink you have consumed. And yes, it does happen as we have seen it.

Yes, I imagine people can get caught sharing once in a great while but only if you're so brazen to do it openly in public view.

since non-alcoholic drinks are unlimited, nobody cares if you get a soda (for the kid) with your Premier/Plus package at the same time with your alcohol.

All the people were grabbing a couple of sodas and/or 3-4 bottes of water at the same time as their alcohol and nobody blinked an eye or raised an eyebrow. Obviously, nobody is going to drink all 4 bottles of Perrier, Coke AND their Dunes while still standing at the bar. You walk away with the goodies and consume them whenever and where ever you wish.

I ordered 3 coffees or mineral waters at the same time and nobody followed me to make sure that I only got it for myself and DH, and none for the kid (kid doesn't drink coffee anyway - it was for my parents who also had a Premier package, but it was more convenient to order 3 coffees with one medallion than one coffee per each medallion). Other people were ordering in the same manner.

Let’s also remember drink plans first came out on Princess they were unlimited alcoholic drinks this changed when people started sharing

That couldn't have anything to do with people drinking excessively, could it?

Some folks can easily reach the 15 drink limit without any problem and others might only have 4,5 or 6 drinks a day on their account. 😏

No, it came about after a spring break cruise that I was on.  Many of the college students were sharing the package. They caught quite a few of them.

I'm sure this helped lead to the decision

We don't have money to burn.

We've done Premier package a couple times, and do the fitness classes daily - our kids enjoy them since they are athletes.

Money to burn comment could be used on anyone, casino players, people who book suites...to each his own.

that's different from getting a kid without a package an occasional soda.

Some of those college kids aren't she brightest, especially when drinking. 😄

I have seen many kids power down numerous sodas and mocktails a day not exactly occasional
