leaveitallbehind Posted July 11 #3 Share Posted July 11 Eclipse has 11 night Boston closed loop Canada cruises in August and September. She then repositions to Port Everglades, FL for closed loop Southern Caribbean cruises from there.

scidee Posted July 12 #6 Share Posted July 12 We are sailing the Eclipse Oct. 11, 2025 10 days Boston to Bermuda than ABC islands disembarking at Port Everglades. Seems like a nice fall itinerary, if we avoid hurricanes!! We need a Hotel in Boston Oct. 8-11. Suggestions as to the best location and public transportation? Thanks

Thanks For a hotel recommendation, you should look at the East Coast Departures board. With that said, hope you have a decent budget. 1

scidee Posted July 12 #9 Share Posted July 12 Thanks to both of you for responding. This will be our first time to Boston and my husband is a "history buff". We would like to be centralize with the "have to see" (Freedom Trail, etc.) attractions and have the availability to take public transportation to navigate the city. Yes, I've notice that Boston hotels come with a hefty price. Would like to keep it under $300/night. Thanks for any insights you may have.

I am happy to make a few hotel recommendations for you in your price range. I also know the city like the back of my hand, can also suggest some good stops along the Freedom Trail. How many days do you plan to be here before the cruise?

Thanks Do a search in the Seaport District. It can be pricey. Many start at $400 a night.

Under $300 a night might be a challenge based on a quick search. You’ll get less expensive but further out. The “T” (equivalent of a metro/subway) isn’t problematic to use, but will add travel time to many of the many things you’ll want to see.

Currently for Oct 2024, lowest rates for Seaport hotels are starting at $320+. Did a quick look at Intercontinental (my fav on the harbor) is $325/night and Yotel is $315. Both hotels are close to the cruise port, IC may want a taxi and Yotel is walkable, of course deonding on how much luggage. They could go just outside to Somerville and get something less than $300/night but IMO it would not be worth the hassle. Seaport area is a great base to do the Freedom Trail especially around the North End area. I'd start at USS Constitution then move on to the North End area, Paul Rever House, Old North Church, Old State House and I would have lunch in one of the North End restaurants or James Hook Lobster. Would really only have to use the T Orange Line but also quite walkable depending on weather and personal mobility. Now who knows what hotel rates will be in Oct. 2025.

Anything in the Freedom Trail area provided OP and spouse don't have mobility issues is very easily walkable. For sports fans, seeing Fenway might be fun. Walking along the Charles River esplanade might be nice in October. Trying to think a bit outside the Freedom Trail box.

I always recommened a Duck Boat tour, fun (not cheap) good guides who throw the Bawston accent on supah thick, great way to see the city and the ride in the Charles River is a blast.

Lots going on in leaf peeping season and check the dates for Head of The Charles regatta in October. It draws several hundred thousand into the city for the weekend. scidee Posted July 13 #20 Share Posted July 13 Oops. Yes, I did mean 2024. Yesterday I was in the process of booking a cruise for Sept. 2025 so I confused things. Glad you will be cruising with us from Boston. Thank you to all who responded. FYI the Intercontinental is totally booked for those days.
Rare 1025cruise Posted July 13 #21 Share Posted July 13 Head of the Charles is Oct 18-20. If you haven't booked a hotel by now, grab the first thing you see and eat the cost.

I agree…that’s also in the time frame of parents weekends and the Boston metro area has a large number of colleges and universities many of which draw families from further away who stay or arrive early to explore the city.
Rare DaKahuna Posted July 13 #23 Share Posted July 13 In my humble opinion, any and every trip to Boston should include a visit to the USS Constitution -- Old Ironsides. Many are now aware that she is still a commissioned vessel. Her officers and crew are active duty Navy sailors.

And if you live here, or are ever visiting during the 4th of July, she still gets an escort out into Boston Harbor and it is truly a magnificent sight to behold!

Many people stay in the suburbs and take Commuter Rail into the city to save money. Another option is to book at Logan Airport as we got very good rates there.
