smitty34877 Posted July 15 #28 Share Posted July 15 Good morning. It is already humid and warm with more to come. The sheet pan recipes all look so good, thanks to Debbie @dfish. I will try the last one when cooler weather arrives.I have been trying hard to give things away and declutter here so will celebrate that day but not the other two. I have not been to the port and have always been fascinated by the Rosetta Stone. @JazzyV, I certainly hope you feel better today. Thank you for everything you do for us. @Quartzsite Cruiser, Linda, I hope the appointments and studies go well for DH. @kazu, I hope all goes well for both you and Ivan. It sounds as if the showing went well. It has been quite busy here and thankfully my DB and DSIL arrived yesterday to help. DB aka Ken shares my dark sense of humor and had me laughing until I cried . He shared with me something DD DH told him last year when he was so ill. I am glad he waited a year to tell me! At dinner last night he told “ tales from the dark side” when we were growing up that had everyone laughing. I am so glad that he moved back home(sort of). He reminded me of the hope and resilience he taught me at a young age. Take care everyone and hold those you love closely. 31
Quartzsite Cruiser Posted July 15 #29 Share Posted July 15 (edited) Good morning from a mostly clear central Texas. It is 76F and feels like 76F with 97% humidity and a dew point of 75F. There is a 7mph wind from the south. It looks like our high will be 100F later this afternoon. As Vanessa @JazzyV mentioned in the cares list, DH has a CT Scan today. However, the follow up appointment at UTSW will be Friday. At this time, both appointments are part of the routine after a shunt adjustment. Just a bit of information about the process for clarification. The CT Scan is used to determine if it is safe to adjust the shunt so more cerebrospinal fluid will flow out of the brain, or if the last adjustment was more than needed. It is a delicate balance because too much fluid in the brain causes problems, but too little causes other problems. I doubt they will make another adjustment Friday, since there was some reluctance to make the adjustment last month. DH was doing very well after the first adjustment in April until he fell and more likely had a concussion from the fall. Those symptoms are slowly resolving. We both than everyone for their good wishes for today and Friday including @JazzyV Vanessa, @Seasick Sailor Joy, @ottahand7 Nancy, @dfish Debbie, @kazu Jacqui, @cunnorl Charlene; and @smitty34877 Terry. Today, I'll try not to be a dock, and someone else can have my share of gummi worms. National give something away day is good, and I have some items in the closet to take to the local thrift store soon. The Fred Allen quote is funny. The sheet pan roasted salmon recipes look good, and I'll tuck them away for a cooler day. We'll pass on the drink, but with the name Anejo Highball, I was expecting a drink with tequila. The wine sounds lovely, but I wish the price was lower. We were in Salverry and Trujillo in 2001 on Ryndam, and I haven't seen the port on an itineraries since then. That was the last cruise where I was using a film camera. Last night, I dug out some of the photos from the cruise and scanned them into the computer, and I'll post them in a few minutes. The 1799 discovery of the Rosetta Stone was a game changer in studying ancient Egypt. @StLouisCruisers Sandi, I'm glad Ren and his father made it home safely yesterday afternoon. @ottahand7 Nancy, thanks for the pictures of the beautiful flowers, butterflies and caterpillar. @Seasick Sailor Joy, I hope all goes well for Allen his appointment today. I'm glad he had a good time at his birthday party yesterday. @kazu Jacqui, I hope all goes well with both your and Ivan's appointments tomorrow. I hope tonight and tomorrow morning go well with Ivan. Quartzsite Cruiser Posted July 15 #39 Share Posted July 15 (edited) In 2001 on b2b cruises from Valparaiso to Ft. Lauderdale and then to Seattle, we stopped in Salverry, Peru. We hired a taxi for a tour that day and visited the Temple of the Moon, Temple of the Sun, an adobe citadel, a fishing village and Trujillo. It was an election day, and our driver needed to vote before the poles closed, and since he would not have time after we returned to the ship, we went with him to vote. At that time, Peru required a passport to vote, and they stamped the passports of those who voted. Without the stamp the person could not leave the country. The driver's poling place was in a rough part of Trujillo; so for our safety, he cracked the windows a bit and locked us in the car. There was a band on the dock when we arrived in Salverry. Our first stop were the archaeological sites of the Temple of the Sun and the Temple of the Moon. These were taken at the Temple of the Sun (La Huaca del Sol), and we did not explore the Temple of the Moon (La Huaca del Luna). This is a reproduction of some of the decorations in the temples. DH and our taxi Chan Chan an ancient adobe citadel. Our next stop was the fishing village of Huanchaco Here they use reed boats, and you can see some on the beach. aliaschief Posted July 15 #42 Share Posted July 15 Good morning. What do you do on vacation? Relax, which in my case meant sleeping late. We arrived yesterday with no incidents and found our beach house named Soft Shoes to be a beautiful retreat. The granddaughters already have been in the pool and now are splashing in the Gulf. ger_77 Posted July 15 #43 Share Posted July 15 Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily! I don't think I'm a dork, but if I am, who cares? Gummi worms haven't made an appearance around here since last year when the grandsons were around. I've always got a bag open and ready to accept things to give away - right now it's about half full. It's a cool morning out there for us at only 11C (51F), but the sky is clear and there's barely a breeze. Right now I can see a couple of squirrels running up and down the spruce trees in the back yard, chasing one another. We have to appreciate the coolness of today and tomorrow because the rest of the week we're expecting temperatures in the 30's (90+), which for us is hot. @Seasick Sailor and @Quartzsite Cruiser sending prayers and good vibes that your DH's medical appointments have good outcomes for both guys. @kazu I hope the couple makes a decision to buy your lovely home very soon and that all goes well with your and Ivan's medicals / surgeries. It's so hard to deprive our furkids of food prior to any surgery - sending hugs. We had a busy day yesterday with our Ukrainian friends showing up around 10:30 to dismantle and put away the banquet tables. My, they work quickly! They also brought in all the coolers and took them downstairs where they emptied the leftover beer and pop into the spare fridge. Once they were done, we sat and visited with them for about a half hour over coffee and snacks, then we sent them on their way loaded down with leftovers from Saturday's barbecue that should see them through a couple of days at least. Later in the afternoon we called our friends Wayne and Fran and asked them if they could help us eat the leftovers - really, I think you can only do that with good friends, right? So around 5 they came over and we put out a great spread on the table on the deck where we spent 5 hours eating, talking, laughing, and having a super relaxed time making our way through the food and leftover open bottles of wine left from Summerfest. They left around 10 in a taxi and will come over later today to pick up their car - there was no way either of them was going to drive and neither DH nor I were in any shape to do so either. Better safe than sorry. I'm not a fan of ginger beer, so will pass on the drink of the day, would like to try the wine, but it's a little pricey, and do like the idea of sheet pan dinners, especially when they include salmon. I can make the salmon in the air fryer/convection oven out on the deck, so I might make the first recipe for us tomorrow before the heat descends on us. Tonight though, it's going to be Monte Cristo sandwiches and chips for us to enjoy at the table on the deck for dinner. And wine. Prayers for everyone who is in need, in pain, in grief, and in the midst of wars not of their making. Cheers to all with celebrations. Smooth Sailing! ☺️☺️☺️ Gerry 34

Rain is supposed to continue until noon and then it will just be hot and humid. I slept so much better last night. Ready to take on the world today! I haven't heard the term dork in a long time. When I was in 8th grade all of us that weren't in the popular crowd were deemed to be dorks. One girl was having a hay ride party and she invited the whole class. There were two wagons and I was on one wagon, but my best friend was assigned to be on the dork wagon. I told the girl organizing it that I would not attend unless I could be assigned to the dork wagon with my friend. I guess I started something because suddenly not many people were attending. Her mom called my mom and a few other moms and the party got restructured. There ended up being one wagon for dorks and non dorks alike and everyone had a good time. Bless you for standing up! Had only someone stood up for that young gunman, maybe Pennsylvania’s event might have been avoided. No excuses. Ever. Just a horrible situation all around. @Haljo1935 Elizabeth, maybe it depends on the tone of voice or the situation. RMLincoln Posted July 15 #49 Share Posted July 15 Hot here through Wednesday then not much better…. still July. Great to have granddaughter and her DH join us for supper yesterday. Their saga of the many insurance claims due to a tree falling into their driveway, cars, a rental U-Haul storage trailer, neighbors car and house continues but they are dealing with it all. DH continues to manage ok, his itchy eye problem is so much better than last week! Grateful, but still uncertain as to why the miserable flare-up. Horrible sleep last night for me but today will happen anyway. Blessings for all here, our Care list, all the appointments and procedures coming up…. For Vanessa, Jacqui, Joy and Allen and Bonnie and stepson, Lenda and Steve…. Terry and Tana and family helping! Yay! Ren and his dad, oiy! Amazing they had a non-stop flight! Ann and Pat, Annie and Chuck, Terri and Jim, those with family and friends in need… Glad to hear of the happy celebrations! Gerry, what a grand Summerfest! Nice catches Nancy and John! Beautiful beach house for Bruce and Sue, settling in in Ogunquit for Mr Boston, hope you’re feeling better. 🤞 for Jacqui’s house sale, trying times… I had more tears than smiles but I kept going and you will too, remember deep breaths! I’m still waiting for my social security application to clear for my 70th birthday, it’s been more than their 30 days the website says it usually takes. I’m holding a phone appt for July 22 in case it’s needed but now I have a chance to meet a Maryland friend that day while she’s up in Bethlehem PA, only about 90 mins away from me… so I hope it all comes together. Onward into a new week! Grateful for all of you, thanks to all who research, share pictures, post their needs and encouragement… please be safe and kind. Extra Blessings for our country!
