Aren’t the only seating options in the cabin either the reportedly uncomfortable “verandah” chairs or the bed? I like a sofa or at least an upholstered occasional chair and ottoman. What other lines are still offering generous solo supplements on their double-capacity staterooms? I am sure there must be at least a couple. I don’t think this is going to do what they think it’s going to do. They had a generic post about what is your favorite memory of cruising on Celebrity and I said "Being able to book something other than a Solo IV on Edge-class ships." And "they" seemed to not know what is happening but asked me to DM them. I've done that complete with screen shots for the cruise I was looking to book on board showing how putting in 1 passenger makes everything but Solo IVs show as "Sold Out" yet if I go and put 2 passengers everything shows. I think you might be confusing what "unfair supplement" means. Celebrity was charging more for a solo passenger than for 2 regular passengers in the same room. That is unfair. Paying a solo supplement that is usually 150%-200% is not unfair. What I am thankful for, is now I can search the solo prices on Celebrity's website. I looked at 10 different cruises on the four ships later this year and next year. From what I could see, 8 of those cruises did not have any obvious restrictions on stateroom selection for solo cruisers while two of them did (certain categories were listed as not available for solo cruisers but were listed as available when there were 2 people in the stateroom). Obviously not a thorough review but it was interesting to see. I think that solo cruisers should have reasonable options and be able to make choices based on personal preference. For me, I found the single IV staterooms to be a good choice when the price was much lower than the alternative and when the itinerary meant I wouldn't be spending a lot of time in the stateroom (e.g., a port-intensive Med cruise). Otherwise I would prefer to pay extra for a regular stateroom with more space and storage. I am ok to pay 200% for a regular stateroom (provided the underlying fare is reasonable). I understand the business end though, as well as the business end of solo supplements, etc. Logic and fairness clearly aren’t playing a role. Can’t we turn this around and say that one person probably doesn’t spend as much as two people so why should cabins be charged at half price? Shouldn’t they stay at 150% or 175% which seems generous to me. I could understand a bidding system where singles can take unsold cabins at 50% of the normal rate. I am thinking that it could be due to open solo cabins:cruises with no solo cabins left show all cabin types and cruises with solo cabins still available only allow for this type of cabin.
