Karter Posted 6 hours ago #2 Share Posted 6 hours ago We just received this but don't know if it is real. Royal just confirmed via phone call. About Your Upcoming Travels Dear Guest, We are currently conducting unplanned maintenance onboard Icon of the Seas. freezincruiser Posted 6 hours ago #3 Share Posted 6 hours ago (edited) In complete shock. Never experienced such a thing. Especially with such little notice. Missed islands sure - but this? Unbelievable. We just got the notice. We've been working so hard since March planning this trip to perfection for our group of 5, already avoiding the Air Canada strike, and now this?!?! So much has already been spent and planned. Hotels before and after. Meeting with others. Effort to get this specific time off work I can now not get back. Now to try and decide and plan out a vacation with only a few days left!! Disney World? Insane. Edited 6 hours ago by freezincruiser
Ken at the beach Posted 6 hours ago #4 Share Posted 6 hours ago That must be something pretty serious for Royal to take her completely out of service for the full sailing on a ship that is not even a year old.

Insane. Probably not a good idea to plan a trip to Disney World. The west coast of Florida is expecting some bad weather beginning Thursday and the outer bands of this storm will affect Central Forida. Sounds like there will be heavy rains and high winds, maybe tornadoes. Sherri🙂
reallyitsmema Posted 6 hours ago #7 Share Posted 6 hours ago Social media is saying Captain announced there is a mechanical issue and the current cruise is only going to Coco Cay.
RescueDan Posted 6 hours ago #8 Share Posted 6 hours ago (edited) My wife and I are on the Icon of the Seas currently and we were nearing the first stop of Sain Maarten. The captain came over the intercom and stated that while the ship was completely safe, they were experiencing some mechanical issues that resulted in the ship having to reduce speed. As a result, 1 of our three stops for this 8 day cruise were canceled. He stated that everyone on board would receive a credit of one days fare automatically. no further explanation. soremekun Posted 5 hours ago #11 Share Posted 5 hours ago Hopefully this ship won't have the same propulsion issues as Carnival's Vista class ships.

By Saturday, that storm is projected to be in Illinois. Should be normal September weather there next week. Insane. I just rebooked for 6 nights on Celebrity Beyond out of FLL on Sept 29th. I changed my outbound flight, and rebooked a hotel in FLL. They only had Single Infinite Veranda rooms left. But it was half of what I spent for a balcony on this cruise. The refund and 100% FCC will help, but prices have more than doubled since I booked. Will probably have to wait until the next ship comes out, then book this one, as the prices will be lower than the newer one.

Just my personal opinion, but Celebrity Beyond blows Icon out of the water. However, I am in my late 50s so I am the target demographic of Celebrity. Icon is a great ship for young families, but those days are long gone for me. I think/hope you will have a great time on Beyond. There are a lot more similarities than differences between Celebrity and RCI. The biggest difference I notice when cruising on Celebrity is there is limited nightlife compared to RCI, especially Oasis class ships and Icon where there is always a lot of things going on around the ship even late at night (bars, casino, Central Park, Promenade, etc. ). There is nightlife on Celebrity ships, but the options are more limited.
TheBeardedCruiser Posted 9 minutes ago #17 Share Posted 9 minutes ago I feel so sorry for all of the passengers! What a let down! That's also a LOT of lost revenue for Royal. The mechanical issue(s) must be pretty serious.
