Dropping off bags in cabins?

I haven't sailed Celebrity in a few years and just stumbled across a comment about being able to drop bags in cabins very early - like 1pm. Is this new? Does it mean you are free to use your cabin that soon or just toss your carry-aboard bag inside? Do they make an announcement or do you just go once on the ship? I'll be on Reflection. Thank you.

That was the situation on Apex earlier this year. Really useful to be able to dump the carry on bags, and it was really noticeable around the ship. Meant everywhere seemed less crowded, as people didn’t have to park themselves with their bags waiting for the cabins to be ready. And there was no stampede when the cabins did become available. It really came home to us on our recent Royal Caribbean cruise, back to the usual hassle and seemed a real nuisance.

Would be nice if they would adopt this policy as well.  Not a criticism but RCI's model likely favors the stateroom attendants by giving them exclusive access to the staterooms until ready.  Less intrusive on their workload with no passengers in the hallways or staterooms while they are working.  Whereas Celebrity's IMO favors the customer by allowing access while the staterooms are still being readied.  In deference to the attendants we always make quick work of getting our room card and dropping things off. But that is a nice option.

It would be nice if Royal could/would adopt this same policy but something tells me that it would be abused.

Very convenient, which makes any boarding time work in terms of getting to your stateroom to drop off carryon's, etc., to then enjoy the ship as the signage suggests.

Totally agree! It also makes the buffet and bar areas so much more pleasant. I can remember when everyone would board then find a ‘spot’ to sit with possessions and not move until the 1 pm announcement…Lifts were jammed with luggage toting guests, tables in the buffet were ‘taken’ by guests who had finished eating long ago…It seems a long time ago now and so primitive…

In what way?  We don't see it abused with Celebrity.  Why would RCI be any different?

One clue might be looking at the posts here and on FB on the 3 and 4 day cruises that are attracting a lot of Royal cruisers. Rules don't seem to apply to many of them from what I've read. The dress code (or ignoring same) is a good example. Not saying they are all like that by any means but definitely a different demographic with different ideas of following rules.

Yes, drop your bags off and pick up your key.  If the room is finished, you are free to stay.  If not, put your valuables in the safe, drop your bags, and go wander the ship until there is an announcement.

Thank you I wondered about using the safe along with dropping off carry-on luggage.

That is the source of information on which to base this conclusion?  I have been cruising with RCI and Celebrity for 32 years and combined I have over 50 cruises with both of them.  Based on that experience I disagree with your assessment generalizing RCI customers as "many of them" by way of their demographic in that manner.  Actually IMO it's rather clueless.  RCI's primary target demographics is families with children.  But to each their own, I guess.

I am trying to think of what kind of action might be considered “abusing the system” if Royal went to the same procedure that Celebrity uses?

People staying in their rooms versus just grabbing key cards, putting bags in the room, and locking away valuables in the safe; letting their young children run up and down the passageways; unpacking and putting away items from their carry ons (other than the valuables they put in the safe).   Anything that resulted in them  spending anything other than the bare minimum time in the room.

better still before you wander the ship go straight to your Muster Station Check in Point and complete the paperwork (Takes about a minute) and then you really are free to do whatever you want - personally we then head for Al Bacio.

Certainly sounds like RCI'rs.  After all they are prone to be rule breakers which as pointed out previously is confirmed by them not adhering to dress codes........🥴

We've boarded early enough that there were no personnel available at the muster stations to check us off the list on their tablets.  We usually drop by after lunch.
