AquariusOne Posted March 6, 2013 #2376 Share Posted March 6, 2013 Hotwire can select 3 people, with Priceline there is no guarantees they will give you what you want... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2 Thanks for your response. It is much appreciated. How soon is too soon to book through Priceline or Hotwire? Do the deals get better close to travel time or the other way around?
sadie8 Posted March 7, 2013 #2377 Share Posted March 7, 2013 I ended up with the Marriott San Juan and Stellaris Casino for my November trip. Express deal for resort at $119, originally $195. Price:avg. per room, per night $119.00 Rooms: 1 Bed Type: City View - This Room Provides 1 Bed. Nights: 2 Room Subtotal: $238.00 Travel Insurance: $10.00 Taxes & Fees: $75.66 Total Charged to Card: $323.66 Thank you for the heads up about the Marriott on Priceline's Express Deals. It is impossible to tell on Express Deals which hotel you are getting. We love the Marriott and don't mind paying that rate to stay there.

cherylroslyn Posted March 21, 2013 #2379 Share Posted March 21, 2013 Does anyone know if this strategy still works or have they added more resorts that I should be aware of? Pnce now has a resort, so don't add Ponce or you might be staying in Ponce:)

sadie8 Posted March 21, 2013 #2381 Share Posted March 21, 2013 I don't see resort when selecting Ponce. Just resorts in Rio Grande and San Juan when bidding.
cherylroslyn Posted March 25, 2013 #2382 Share Posted March 25, 2013 I don't see resort when selecting Ponce. Just resorts in Rio Grande and San Juan when bidding. Wrong...... Hilton Ponce Golf and Casino Resort Go to Priceline and pick your dates. Then select Ponce only. It is the first hotel that comes up so I'm not sure how you don't see it. Also, I have a friend who got the hotel in Ponce while adding free rebids because she believed someone who put something on here that wasn't true. Also, anyone who knows betterbidding or biddingfortravel knows this new resort was added in the last couple of years.......
sadie8 Posted March 26, 2013 #2383 Share Posted March 26, 2013 (edited) I don't usually rebid and just come back 24 hours later with my new bid. For my dates, if I select "name your own price" on Priceline and then only select "Ponce" as the area that I want to stay, the star levels available are 3, 2 1/2, 2, and 1. So it seems if my initial bid only included San Juan as the area and Resort as the star level and then on my next bid I add Ponce as an area but have not changed my star level I would not win a resort in Ponce. Like you said, there are resorts in Ponce, but I don't see them on the bidding section of Priceline - "name your own price" - for the dates I need. I don't quite follow this pricing on Hotwire. Your room rate per night is $ 125, and for 2 nights, it should be $ 250. Yet, your total cost is $ 667, which means $ 417 is in taxes and fees. Is this correct? It if it is correct, you are paying $ 333 per night, without tips.

The taxes and fees for hotwire are the same as everyone else's. I've used them and they are no different than priceline, lastminute travel or hotels.com

Two rooms for two nights. $125 per room per night plus $41.75 tax and fees = 166.75 per room per night. Total $667.
cherylroslyn Posted April 12, 2013 #2389 Share Posted April 12, 2013 I just went onto priceline and they have taken away the "Resorts" diesignation for the hotels in San Juan. Now it is just stars....so now you really don't know what you are getting if you bid for stars.... it used to be if you bid on a resort you would have one of six very nice hotels....now if you bid on four stars you can get a pretty wide range of options in my opinion.....like Sheratton Convention Center which is really far from anything walkable...... sadie8 Posted April 12, 2013 #2390 Share Posted April 12, 2013 It looks like Priceline has done away with the resort category everywhere, not just in San Juan. ........... And just when I felt like I had this all figured out!!

khm1 Posted April 30, 2013 #2395 Share Posted April 30, 2013 La Concha RenaissancePriceline 2 people Feb 1 - 2 / 2014 $150 + Tax Did you bid or is this an express deal? Was this your first bid? I would love to stay at La Concha. As soon as the Southwest opens its itineraries for 11/13, I will book with them then book a hotel through Priceline or Hotwire. I should be able to book by next week I see that you cruise out of SJ a lot. Can you tell me about how you went about booking this time? did you use Betterbidding? Thanks! I started at $115 and bid in $5 increments to $150 which was also my ceiling and my last rebid zone. I checked Betterbidding but didn't find any help there for Feb so I just went for it and bid 4* using free rebid zones up to $150.
