Removal of Auto tips on P&O ?

NSWP

Recommended Posts

I loved the comment by one Aussie that maybe those who turn off auto WAGE SUBSIDY (for NSWP :D ) should walk the plank LOL

Yes, i think that "dirty word" should now be AWS (Auto wage subsidy):D

Think I might start a new thread on the Princess forum " Can I reduce my AWS?" of cause they never read this board so they will never know.........but I wouldn't want to stir the porridge anymore!!;)

What gets me is the manner in which a question is answered on the thread."oh, I tip $2 for room service pizza, $3 for room service hotdog, $10 extra to assistant waiter, $20 extra to waiter, $20 to maitre D for putting us all together ON TOP OF MY AUTO TIPS, I envisage Daddy Warbaucks sucking on a fat cigar at his computer!!

The other facinating thing from that particular thread was that people think they can gage your mood, "you are so angry" What a laugh, they wouldn't know me from a bar of soap. That thread needed a shrink for all those insecure posters!!!

what sums up the cutural differences, which covered a broad group of non Americans is that we see tipping as a private personal decision.

WOW !!!! this is a very funny thread!!!! the title says removal of auto tipping

all I read was 3 pages of people ( putting down ) the people on the Princess thread

Rob

Yeah it's hilarious!!! Have a look at the 13-14 pages of Aussie/Kiwi/Brit put downs on the same topic on the Princess board, your query answered.

Have a nice day

I have just read Happyscots reply on the Princess thread...LMAO!!

Interesting Kaz,

This one was pulled over there. Guess you might need to have two ** in your swear words on those boards, who knows.

Cheers

Hey Lets party,

There are many people who are too scared to enter into a Princess thread because they feel that when they do they get 'attacked' personally for their views. We try not to do that here on our board. Your point of view is just as valid as anyone elses.

The people on this thread are just responding to what was said on the Princess thread...and the 'put downs' that came our way by some of the princess posters there.

Chill out and have a beer or G&T!!

Kaz

Hey Mate that the best thing I've heard all day!!!:) :D

I'll buy, but I get to leave a tip:p ;)

OMG sick of that thread ! Wow they get personal don't they !! They lost me when they started the "your country is trying to rule the world so expect some criticism"....strange place to end up when discussing tips !!! Good luck Jennie, but I think you're wasting the electricity it is using to power your computer to keep up the 'tennis match' as Foundloveatsea put it

Hi Everyone,

I do not post very much on this Board as we usually cruise on Princess or HAL but I have to thank everyone who came over and helped me with that "Tipping" saga. I usually let things go but on this occasion I just had to try and explain why a lot of Aussie cruisers are not into tipping especially when every cruiser receives a letter from Princess Australia telling them that we can remove the tips if they want.

AZBeachboy is a great guy. We met him only a couple of weeks ago on the T.P. He was on our Roll Call we had quite a few meals with him. He is very fair and unbiased and tries to see both points of view.

I gave up when one poster started to talk about how his country takes so many refugees and immigrants. I was nearly going to reply to him stating he should start reading about other countries and how our small country takes its fair share and then thought better of it and just let him be.

Anyhow the post has been closed now. We have always left the tips on and even given extra at the end of our cruises but to me the fairest would be to incorporate that $10p.p. into the cruise and that would be the end of it like on Silverseas, Seabourn etc.

I must admit that when we were on the Pacific Princess in January it was great to only have to pay $7.50AUD a day, what a difference. Same crew as on all their other cruises so who was making up their salaries!

Glad to see you made it out alive Jennie ;) Crazy stuff to be sure !! Oh well a lively discussion is always fun and have to agree it was funny watching that thread and then popping back 'home' to report to our thread. Got even more fun the more of us over there 'on the plank' !! LOL

Gosh I love that Happyscot! Thanks for sharing his poem and thoughts with us FoundLove@Sea :D

Happy to hear they closed the "other" thread. It was out of control. We're all on this forum because we love cruising, not so that we can degrade each other's opinions and countries!!

Have a great day everyone :D

Congratulate yourselves guys and gals for winning WW3 on the Auto Wage Subsidy' (AWS) thread now closed on Princess section. Well I reckon we won the battle anyway, with the help of the Scotsman and a Kiwi or 2 , a Pom or 2 & maybe a Canadian. My BP is down a bit now. Wonder how long before this one gets closed by Super Mod Caroline, don't think it will, we are reasonable people.

Cheers.

It is interesting isn't it. I noticed that one of mine was pulled last night too!! And all I did was thank Happyscot for his words of wisdom and AZbeachboy for his summary...no swear words whatsoever!! A couple of others I read disappeared...must have been the gremlins online at midnight ( I couldn't sleep)...Host Caroline said she didn't pull any...????

Glad I got a copy of his poetry then:D

Kaz

1 minute it was there, the next gone. Rushed back to look here and copied into my notepad, figuring yours would be next.

Maybe it was just the meltdown that bought the gremlins out!

Thanks to everyone for their points of view, it has been a great read (insults excepted) on both threads.

Cheers,

Hi folks. Hope you don't mind a brief visit. I see that you were flattering enough to quote somewhere my spoof review by Mrs Hangablack of the Sea Princess of 12 May 2007 (I got my come-uppance when the real cruise was cancelled!!). Ah but you didn't quote the reply Mrs Hangablack was sent from Princess - the thread in which it lurked was pulled because things got a wee bit heated. Can't think why..............

Anyway, hope you enjoy. I'm quite boring really you know..............

Hi folks. I see many of you read my Review of our disasterous trip on the Sea Princess in May 2007. Including a number of Brisitsch members, nice to see you can read anyways. Although obviously not signs for the dentist. Most of you have mouths like Stonehenge. No wonder Lee Harvey Oswald Jr shot Princess Diana in that car, he was probably her hygienist.

Anyway, I was less than pleased with the TONE of some of your replies. These were my honest opinions, and clearly many of you don’t fully appreciate the great 1st Amendment Amurikan value of free speech. You shouldn’t be allowed to say those things. Bombing is too good for you, like all those countries with an efficient ground-to-air missile defence system we always make friends with.

Anyways, you’ll recall I wrote to Princess to inform them of their cataclysmic inefficiency. Here’s their reply, which fellow cruisers may find useful. I thought it was fair, and may after all decide to try Sea Princess again.

Mrs Scarlet Hangablack

“White’s Only Cottage”

World

Dear Mrs Hangablack

Apologies first of all if that is your hobby rather than your name.

Thank you for your letter of 5 minutes after your cruise ended. Rest assurred that Princess takes all such feedback seriously, and endeavours to apply the lessons learned to our sacred mission of providing all passengers with an unforgettable experience. It seems that on your cruise you took it upon yourself to do this for us. We note your modest claim for a full refund, a free cruise, an annual subscription to the magazine “Cleanse Amurika” and full unopposed ownership of the Island of Tahiti.

We have conducted extensive research into the issues you raised, and would like to make the following comments. You made a substantial impact on your cruise with us, and our enquiries took us to several respected mental health facilities, wherein reside an interesting number of our May 12 2007 crew and passengers.

  • We note you took advantage of our prestigious chess evenings, and caused no little offence when you insisted on playing only with white pieces, and erecting miniature burning crosses on the centre of the board.

  • Shipboard authorities report that you complained on a number of occasions about the behaviour of the children on board. There were seventeen at the start of the cruise, and 14 at the end. You rarely attended the dining-room, and cabin stewards reported a smell of cooking in your room. Did you eat some of the younger passengers, Mrs Hangablack? We need to know so that the appropriate refunds and FCC’s can be considered for the grieving parents.

  • A total of 54 passengers suffocated to death under the zip loc bag you insisted on wrapping the last night bingo session with, because a fellow player had spilt some brandy. The bingo caller reported he could hardly hear your winning call because of the oxygen apparatus you were wearing. Did you murder the bingo players Mrs Hangablack?

  • Why did you cut the Captain’s willie off? HE IS NOT A BEAR. He is a happily married man from England who supports Arsenal, attends Church, likes to holiday on his own and goes on the internet a lot. OK, perhaps you have a point with this one.

  • Our wedding coordinator reports that you sabotaged someone’s wedding by cutting off their music, making them stand in the wrong place and giving them the wrong photographs. Princess would like to thank you for your efforts, boy wasn’t SHE a pain in the ass????

  • We would like to inform you that the “Strength through joy” Spa has closed, and Jurgen, Hans and Bertha have since left the employ of Princess. Your suggestion that non-Christian passengers should wear striped uniforms and sleep 23 to a stateroom whilst sorting the contents of other passengers’ luggage were unfortunately adopted by misguided members of the crew with the result that Princess is now the subject of an international war crimes tribunal. We would like to thank you for this opportunity to test the abilities of our in-house legal team.

  • The mouth of the bar tender from India is not a spittoon.

  • Italy is not the Italian for Dagoland.

  • The Cabin Steward is not normally required to align your cuticles to the direction of the ship’s passage each evening.

  • The Head Waiter cannot be bribed to slip arsenic into the gravy of Brisitsch passengers.

  • Your behavior in the casino was questionable. Texas Hold-Em rarely involves the Croupier’s testicles in well-run establishments.

  • Whilst Amurika may well be the land of the free, we dispute your contention that this extends to your bar bill.

  • France is not a “thoid woild country”. OK, we’ll give you this one as well.

  • The library is a room where books live. Books are like very very long comic strips without the pictures. They used to have them in Amurikan schools.

  • Brisitsch people are no more likely to pee in the pool than anyone else. OK, once again, you win on this one.

  • The pool side grill is not for grilling ethnic minorities. This is not Princess policy.

  • If a Brisitsch person hogs a pool side chair, you may not set them on fire.

  • The Vista lounge is not sponsored by a credit card company.

We find at this time we are unable to meet all your requests. However, in recognition of the fact that you are a past cruiser, we are prepared to offer a $100 FCC, and ownership of Wyoming. Please confirm that you are content with this offer.

Yours truly, Princess Cruise

Well good morning, at least here in the good ole USA. I was just checking around the boards to see what was up with other cruise lines and to my surprise this was the very first thread. So I decided to stop in for my G&T. (It is five o’clock somewhere)

I was so happy to see so much participation by all of you. I know it had to be hurtful. I know Aussiegal and how much she must have been hurt by some comments. I guess that is why I stayed in the fray as long as I did. We even discussed some aspect with neighbors during our BBQ yesterday. It was a lot more cordial.

I have read you thread. It would have been nice to see it as we went through the other thread. First let me say, I have never paid the AWS. (I like that term). Yet I do tip, sometimes less, sometimes more depending on the service. When I cancelled the pursers did not give me a hassle. When asked why, I told them I do not tip management and that head waiters are management. But no matter what they are part of the pool. That is the tip off that it is no longer a tip.

We talk about free speech in the United States, but your experience on the thread is no different that we happens here every day. As I mentioned on the thread, if some do not agree with you the reaction is to try and shout you down and call you names. I have been called many things on those threads, even threatened that if I was met on the same ship would be thrown overboard.

We have a very controlling society. We have too many people who respond with, “that’s the way it is.” I personally do not accept things just they way they are! The way things are is generally for the benefit of the person that wants something.

I have a lot to say, but this is getting long. However, although I appreciate happyscott’s writing, he is usually the one that stirs the pot about social issues, immigration etc. If you watch the boards carefully, you will notice his comment about canceling third world debt etc.

We appreciate you all, Blessing Jim

BTW happyscott was correct. I did not get tipped last time I preached.

You CAN'T be a vicar - you often make sense, and are sometimes nice.

I had the vicar for tea once. They're still looking for him..................

Toothache rages on. Finished aspirins, went to dentist, fell in love (they let women do this now), came home, no better, have turned to only other possibility.

Four 'love letters to day folks..in reply..

FOUNDLOVEATSEA..to answer your query..We are Staying at Crown Plaza Hotel, San Pedro Harbour for one night pre cruise, paid US$140 for a non smoking, Double King Size Bed. We are in the hotel group 'Priority Club' which gets you complimentary light brekkie and upgrade to Priority Club floors if available, but we will take what is offered, no dramas. When we first hit USA we are staying 4 nights at Crowne Plaza, Beverley Hills..much the same rate, doing some day tours, then off to Peru then back for precuise. No worries for asking.

AZ BEACHBOY..I applaude, you well said, fair comment, cheers.

KARMAC..it has now been locked..but a few chardies to view it?..make it a 5 litre cask.!!

HAPPYSCOT..welcome to the 'Aussie Section' get stuck in to us..we don't mind..you deserve the 'Princess medal of valour' for your posts on the Princess 'Auto Tip Thread.' Love to meet you on a cruise one day..we could chuck the rest of the entertainers overboard.!!

Cheers, Scotland the Brave , Och Aye the Noo and all that.

OK. Will make sure I'm well stocked:p . I knew it was closed (could be a good thing-saves me adding my 2 bobs worth & getting attacked) but I'm certainly looking forward to reading it. Have read the Princess boards before so I know what they're like. I'm well prepared. Have read some of happyscots posts before too....very entertaining. Would start reading now but have to get reay for work.:(

Welcome to Downunder.....Jim and Happyscot.......you will love us down here and we sure are not backwards at coming forward....

NSWP I second and third that aboot the entertainers and not just here in Australian waters......omg some of them are pitiful and there is nothing worse than watching the audience leave in droves.........on cruises you expect quality entertainers...not acts you can see for free at the local club/pub...... Hey this could be the next debatable thread...... My husband has worked the 5* International circuit for years and the passengers are the judges they receive a card to fill in and must score you out of 10.... you have to achieve at least a 2 out of 10 to be re-booked...STRESSSSSSSSSSSFUL but kept you on your game.

cheers shiona:D
