Rare WesW Posted October 22, 2008 #1 Share Posted October 22, 2008 On lloyds MIU it lists Seven Seas Voyager as a vessel casualty about 13 hours ago (another board reports it hit the pier in Rhodes Greece this a.m.) Have googled for further information--no joy...anyone heard anything more on this report? thanks
ajax Posted October 22, 2008 #2 Share Posted October 22, 2008 I found this item on a Russian website, and although I catch the "drift", I unfortunately don't speak Spanish (?): http://sp.rian.ru/onlinenews/20081021/117867125.html
Goldryder Posted October 22, 2008 #3 Share Posted October 22, 2008 Voyager smacked her stern whilst docking in Rhodes. Minor damage, no injuries reported. Coincides with a Greek transport strike, not sure if the industrial action had a hand in it or whether it was just one of those things. Last year on FO Braemar we smacked the quay when reversing into our berth at Ponta Delgada, made a heck of a mess with the paintwork and there was some denting to the stern plating but nothing serious, I would expect the damage would be similar on Voyager too. orchestrapal Posted October 22, 2008 #4 Share Posted October 22, 2008 Seems to me it's a good thing she is going into dry-dock soon. Hopefully by the time we board her in May she'll be fit as a fiddle!:)
Travelcat2 Posted October 22, 2008 #5 Share Posted October 22, 2008 Poor Voyager. . . the shuttle we were on a couple of weeks ago ran right into her (no damage -- just black tire type marks on the side). When we left Istanbul, there wasn't a mark on her -- now she has some bruises. I was under the impression that the Greek srike was over (at least it didn't affect us when we were there). Perhaps the new Voyager captain needs a bit more practice:confused:
Rare RachelG Posted October 22, 2008 #6 Share Posted October 22, 2008 I do read Spanish (interesting that a Russian website is in Spanish, but whatever). It says that the Voyager can't leave Rhodes till the investigation is completed. Wonder how long that takes?
Maineac Posted October 22, 2008 #7 Share Posted October 22, 2008 Does anyone know who Voyager's current captain is?
Wendy The Wanderer Posted October 22, 2008 #8 Share Posted October 22, 2008 Gianmario Sanguineti. New apparently, from Oceania. Italian.

Wendy The Wanderer Posted October 22, 2008 #10 Share Posted October 22, 2008 If I read between the lines of a poster on another board, I don't think they were detained in Rhodes.
parisbully Posted October 23, 2008 #11 Share Posted October 23, 2008 Gianmario Sanguineti. New apparently, from Oceania. Italian. Wendy, What happened to Captain Dag? We really liked him and were looking forward to seeing him again in December....
Wendy The Wanderer Posted October 23, 2008 #12 Share Posted October 23, 2008 I'm not sure what the deal is, but I'm sure Dag will be back for the world cruise, at least I've not heard anything different.
Rare RachelG Posted October 23, 2008 #13 Share Posted October 23, 2008 I'm sure he will be back. Remember, these guys work very hard long hours with no days off. So they take their time off in blocks of several weeks. We are booked on Captain Dag's homecoming cruise to Norway next summer. Wouldn't be much of a homecoming if he weren't there. Joanandjoe Posted October 23, 2008 #14 Share Posted October 23, 2008 I'm not sure what the deal is, but I'm sure Dag will be back for the world cruise, at least I've not heard anything different. THis mkes me wonder if Apollo is going to start mixing the senior officers on Regent and Oceania. The poster on the luxury board certainly seemed to say that the ship had left Rhodes. CruiserPK Posted October 24, 2008 #15 Share Posted October 24, 2008 Apollo is mixing things up.....I think it is a huge mistake. We will be on the Voyager in late December for the Panama Canal cruise. I am anxious to see what changes are in store for us. Apollo is all about the bottom line and they are cutting corners everywhere in other businesses so why not here? Cheers, Pam
Wendy The Wanderer Posted October 24, 2008 #16 Share Posted October 24, 2008 Well, come on, a captain is a captain. It's not like his last job was on a garbage scow. When it comes to the *crew*, I doubt it matters--the hotel staff might be a different matter, although from the sounds of it, Oceania has some darned good staff. Pincus Posted October 25, 2008 #17 Share Posted October 25, 2008 For the past several years, Captain Knute has handled the ship for its crossings. Any idea of where he might be? Thanks.
larry1365 Posted October 28, 2008 #18 Share Posted October 28, 2008 Capt. Dag will be the master of the Voyager for the beginning of its World Cruise out of LA. Don't believe he will be joining in Florida, but don't know for sure.
Jim B Posted October 28, 2008 #19 Share Posted October 28, 2008 Reports are that Capt. Dag has some sort of a back injury and has taken some time off for that. He will be back. I wish Regent would get Capt. Niel Broomhall back. He currently is with Saga cruise line. What a neat person.
