Solstice Questions Answered

Anne: Can you give me more info about the "trundle bed?" If the deckplan shows that a cabin has a sofa bed that sleeps 2, is that what you mean? So, were you implying that it's different (in size, appearance, etc.) than the regular sofa beds in the cabins? Is this something we should avoid (there are 2 of us)?

Right now, the story on the Celebrity site is: Some sofas are just sofas, they don't sleep anyone... then there are cabins that show a sofa bed that sleeps one, and then some show a sofa that sleeps 2. I am super confused as to why they have made 3 different options but?? I just hope that the cabins that show a sofa that sleeps 2 is actually a sofa that can sleep 2 together, not one at floor level and one on the couch. That just sounds stupid, as I would think all sofa sleepers could accomplish this... you know?

Hylasgirl: I know...it's ridiculous....Is it me, or are there a handful of sofas that sleep 2? I saw a couple in handicapped rooms...I'm very, very confused b/c a lot of the symbols that I'm assuming are "sleep one" sofas look different...some seem to be a regular square & others seem to have a strange shadow, so I assume those are the same thing.

Well I solved my problem.... I called Celebrity redeployment and I have moved from 6156, 30% obstructed cabin to 9221. Much higher, and a lot better view!!! They do have some cabins available for switching around for those of you that have been notified of obstruction to your balcony. I feel much better now.

My TA was on the 12/14 cruise and was told that Persian Garden is only for AQ. I know on M class you could pay for access - would someone on the Inaugural check this out and see if it is ONLY for AQ? I like relaxing in there before or after a massage. :( Thanks much - and bon voyage to all of you.

I hope you meant 11/14:D;)...its not December yet:)

I read this answer to the questions about onboard smoking areas:

Where will smoking be allowed? Port side of the SKY Lounge; Mast bar & Mast grill; port side of the pool deck and the sun deck (no smoking in solarium); starboard side of the Casino – slot machine areas only.

Here's my question: is there a designated smoking area outside on the port side of the Entertainment Deck? Since so many of the bars and restaurants are located here and on the Promenade Deck below, it would be really convenient to be able to step outside to a smoking area rather than go all the way to the pool deck...or to have to crowd into the smoking area in the casino!

Thanks in advance for your answers and help.

LOL - thanks Lois, I guess I just keep wishing it was December because then I would be CLOSER to getting onboard myself. And thanks for sharing your photos - I'll be sure and have a martini for you. ;)

Thanks....make it a Chocolate:D

You are sailing over New Year's, right? I am sure you will

have an absolutely marvelous time:)

I know you didn't ask but I would tell you to try the Tuscan Grille

at least once. I ate there Saturday night and it was

delicious:)

We've already booked Tuscan Grille and Murano. :) We're passing on Silk Harvest - we like Asian food but have so many choices at home, it seemed silly to pass up the dining room for another night. The 2 nights we are eating in the specialty's are when we are in port so we expected those nights in Grand Epernay to be a little subdued anyway.

hcat ~ tough, tough question. There are so many wonderful spots on board. Here are my initial favorite spots (this may change after spending a week on board):

  • Sunset Bar Area
  • Ensemble Lounge
  • Michael's Club
  • Tuscan Grille
  • Sky Lounge
  • Pool Deck
  • Solarium

But these are just a few. I just realized yesterday in looking at the floor plan that there is a conference center next to the Sky Lounge. Missed it totally. There is definitely more exploring to be done!

We are booked in Concierge Class stateroom 1040 (Solstice 2/22 sailing). We are considering switching to Aqua Class. Does anyone know the additional perks besides dining at Blu you get with Aqua Class? What restaurants are specialty and which are free? What perks we get for being Elite members? We still have a chance to switch catagories so any advice would be great!

Thanks,

Bill

Okay~my husband and I are new to the specialty dining thing. We have gone on 4 cruises, but on smaller ships (can you say Celebration?) with not much choice. We are celebrating my husband's 50th birthday and blowing it out on the Solstice! We always like to budget our vacations before we leave home to leave surprises to a minimum. What dining choices are INCLUDED in the price of the cruise, and which restaurants are extra? I know most of the "extras" on the regular cruise ships (coffee and ice cream bars, etc.), but I would like a little more info on what is NOT included on the Solstice. Thank you!

What is NOT included on Solstice:

Murano

Tuscan Grille

Silk Harvest

Bistro For Five

Cafe al Bacio - gelatos and specialty coffees available for purchase

ps - if anyone hears about fistfights at the waffle area on the 12/28 cruise, it's just me wrestling with Texed for the last fresh waffle. It's ok - it's a Houston vs Dallas thing anyway. ;)

Main dining room (3 meals/day), Oceanside Cafe (Buffet breakfast & lunch), hotdog/burger/pizza at pool, afternoon tea (pastries/light snacks), and 24hour buffet (Oceanside Cafe) are included. Room service is also included. All other venues have some sort of charge, from $5 to $30 p.p.

Also, ice cream is free, but gelato has a charge. Some drinks are free, but soda and adult beverages are additional.

You can have a great cruise experience without spending a lot of extra, and enhance your cruise to whatever degree you wish. Personally, we treat ourselves to one specialty restaurant, just to try it. There is enough variety and flexibility in the MDR to keep us happy, and enough alternative choices that you won't go hungry.

Enjoy!
