  1. Historically it's due to overbooking. May not be the case here. But the OP in the other thread said oversold, maybe they can tell us where they got that phrase, or perhaps they also were making an assumption.
  2. You've made an assumption, convinced yourself that it's right, and seem to keep arguing the point. Not sure what you're trying to prove. Are you aware of how they handled this in the past when this would come up frequently? This is probably the first time it's come up in 3 or 4 years. I don't know if it's oversold or understaffed. Doesn't matter to me either way. Historically this has occurred when the cruise was oversold. FYI, when this used to happen on a regular basis, I think some people either lost their jobs or were reassigned, so yes, at one point their procedure on this was fairly incompetent, and they gave away literally thousands in upgrades, move-overs and refunds.
  3. I guess I missed where they asked you to change.
  4. I'm sure with your vast experience of the way Oceania has dealt with this in the past you're right. Carry on. Enjoy your cruise.
  5. Did you go to the evening shows? Did you play team trivia? Did you watch for him on the morning show on the tv? If he was missing from these things odds are he was probably in quarantine.
  6. The why is pretty simple, they sold more rooms than the ship has. It's pretty common in the travel industry. Historically there are always quite a few cancels around final payment, and of course always some no shows. This used to be a fairly common occurrence with Oceania, but in the past 3 or 4 years before Covid they seemed to have better algorithms happening in the revenue dept. The best bet would be what someone said on the other thread. With all the FCC that has to be used up by years end, people are not cancelling at the normal rate that the system is set up for.
  7. Interestingly enough Regatta had the grey wallets last month. My wife takes one of the old brown ones as the pocket is a nylon mesh and the cards or whatever you put in will slide in and out easier. Unfortunately we only have two of those, and a box full of the grey ones.
  8. The new pens, when you find one, is much better quality than the old ones. Heavier and better constructed. There wasn't one in our room, but we got one from someone while onboard Regatta last month.
  9. Has cruising started back in Japan, SE Asia etc yet?
  10. Historically some of the Grand Voyages came with complimentary laundry, anytime. At the minimum it would seem you would reset each segment, but I don't know for sure. I'd ask your TA or Oceania if you booked direct.
  11. Owner's Suites are only at the rear of the ship on Oceania Ships. Vista Suites are on the front.
  12. This is likely to occur when docking or departing, but once underway should be fine.
  13. Wouldn’t you have the same grats, air, hotel, etc costs on any cruise? I look at it as the cruise is a bonus, I wouldn’t pay all the extra cost if I didn’t want to go. Are they where and when I’d pick? No, but it’s really cheap cruise. My incidentals aren’t as high as yours though. Flying on miles, hotel on points
  14. Of course it's hard to know. It's not like they put the sick numbers in Currents. When we were on Regatta the only way to know was if you saw medical people in hazmat suit entering a room, or if a highly visible staff member goes missing for a few days.
  15. Just a couple of points I noticed. If I understand correctly you are booking the hotel through Oceania. In the past I have had issues with Marriott honoring my status when booking through a third party. Have you ever experienced this issue? I'm not a top tier though, just Platinum. As far as transfers go, my experience in Athens is that it was much further from the airport to the hotel than it was hotel to the cruise port. You may already know but the Spa Terrace has no service, so you need to take any refreshments you want while there with you. There is a frig in the gym with water and some energy type drinks. Enjoy your cruise.
  16. You're not wrong, can't imagine carrying one of those off the ship.
  17. Meanwhile my meals in Toscana on Regatta were fantastic. The lasagna I had was back to some of the best I've ever had. Over the years it's been hit and miss from ship to ship.
  18. It's obviously working if they are making people feel like it's a positive move by them. Every little bit helps, but.................
  19. Yes, but keep in mind that just because you or I might think something is a problem doesn't mean that the moderator will. This board has always had quite a bit of freedom, I like it that way as opposed to always disappearing posts. There was a board I have frequented in the past that seemed to be if someone reported a post, it disappeared, whether it violated guidelines or not.
  20. Also, there are no restaurants off limits to everyone on the ship. The upper suites will get more reservations, but there's no special restaurant or bar or pool area for them. Also no reserved theatre seating. These are the hallmarks of the Mass Market "special" guests.
