  1. If your booking includes the air credit, is it stated on your confirmation? When booking air with HAL, can you fly into the embarcation city several days early? Thanks
  2. Was flat out refused when we asked for a table for 2 for embarcation day lunch on the Rotterdam Nov 24th. We were told we had to share. We said ok figuring they would seat us with people who were also just coming in for lunch. They sat us with a couple who were almost finished their mains. It was very awkward, we apologized for interupting their lunch, they were thankfully very gracious, but we sat there for 20 min while they finished their meal before we could flag down a came to the table. Never went back to the MDR for lunch.
  3. this is the morimoto halibut ordered from the dinning room on Rotterdam last week. $25 up charge. If they didn't put $30 of saffron on top to be thrown away, maybe they wouldn't need to charge an extra $25.
  4. does anyone know the brand of smoker that HAL uses for their smoked cocktails? I'd like to get my DH one for christmas.
  5. Did you prepay online or through a PCC/TA? Maybe that is the difference?
  6. I prepaid online before the cruise. It was charged in USD. It actually showed up in my account onboard as OBC and then the gratuities were still added daily which surprised me. HIA added online before cruise was charged in CAD.
  7. I am Canadian and book my cruise in CAD. For my last cruise in Sep, I prepaid my gratuities on line and was charged in USD. How do you prepay in CAD? Thanks Lois
  8. Was on the Zaandam for the last Canada / New England to Ft lauderdale cruise at the end of Sept. The had a new piano Bar entertainer come on in Quebec City. He was talented but was very "show tuney". Did not make for great sing alone. Billy Joel songs should not sound like show tunes IMO. Met some people who were staying on for another 100 days for the world cruise. I thought I hope for their sake the piano player get switched out alone the way. I'm hoping for better when I board the Rotterdam this Friday.
  9. Are there airlines that actually charge for printing a boarding pass?
  10. But you are not sitting at home drinking, you are on a cruise ship. If you want to make a land based comparison, at least go to a local bar or club and price out the drinks.
  11. I use shower caps from hotels to cover the bottoms of my shoes for packing.
  12. That's starting to get pretty pricey. I have it for my next cruise but might stick to the wine package after that. I'll be 3 star after the next cruise so I will get discount on the wine package.
  13. Anyone else find that outrageously expensive for a cruise ship restaurant? That is $90 Cad. per person not including drinks.
  14. Your welcome. I glad it seems to be received in the spirit it was written.
  15. Has anyone availed themselves of the complimentary mimosa off the CO room service menu? Any issue with this?
  16. This looks like it should be an appy, no a main.
  17. why does adult colouring need a class? they should just put out some colouring sheets and coloured pencils in the library or where the games and puzzles are for guest to do at their leisure.
  18. I thought about that but there were no drinks bought on the days of the charges. And if were tax on a drink, wouldn't be on the receipt you sign for the purchase?
  19. Apple or not, it is still an issue with the manufacturer not supporting their product or honouring their warranty more than an issue of where the product was purchased.
  20. Just looking at my statement on my Hal account for my Sep 24 to Oct 7 cruise. There are several random tax charges showing ranging from $4.38 to $6.88. I did not see these when I checked my account on board or I would have inquired at guest services. They do not correspond to drinks bought on board. First one is dated 1 Oct, our first US port, Although there is one labeled tax for Sep 30 but the amount is 0. Does anyone know what this is?
  21. not sure if you are referring to me but I'm definitely not a cougar. Happily married but my DH is not retired so he didn't have the vacation time so I went with my sister.🙂
  22. I just finished my 4th Hal cruise on the Zaandam, Montreal to ft Lauderdale. It was myself, 58 and my sister, 60. The others were Zaandam, Boston to Montreal, June 2022, solo and b2b NA, Alaska with Dh 56 and friends, early 60s. On all cruises on Hal we were younger than the average but on this last cruise, the margin was much wider. There was the gentleman who had had a stroke, obvious by the non working arm tucked in front and the laboured gait, who was on the dance floor with his wife several times each evening. There was the couple, her 85 and her husband, 86 who sat with us in the Ocean bar one evening to listen to the band. She told us about how they loved to travel and about the full day excursions they were doing in each port. The ladies, mid to late 70's, sitting around the piano in Mix. One of whom had taken a photo of her tequila shot and sent it to her son, 50's, who replied danm Mom! As told to the other as they both laughed. This is just a few examples of many. There were canes, walkers and scooters, but not as many as you would expect, given the demographic. The promenade deck was busy on sea days with old people getting there daily exercise, including the mid 80’s couple I spoke of above. The dance floor was busy each night in the Ocean Bar. What I realized while observing these old people, is that I hope that in 15, 20, 25 years that we have the energy, stamina, love of travel, and sense of humor of the old folks on HAL. Lois
