  1. HIA is $65 pp/pd CAD when added to cruise after booking.
  2. Totally agree, it always makes me a bit nervous when the waiter walks away with my credit card. I don't like having it out of my sight, too easy for someone to write down the information before they return it.
  3. Had this happen in a mall in Massena, NY, a 10 min drive from where I live in Cornwall Ontario. I had US dollars but no change and they wouldn't take a Canadian dime. I'm doing a Canada / New England cruise at the end of Sep and I will go to my bank for USD before I go. They ask what denominations, hand me the money and take the cost from my account. No fees, just the current exchange rate, takes less than 5 mins. Have done this a few times already this year. Do the same for Euros when I go to Europe. Getting foreign currency at a US bank does seem to be a bit of an ordeal though. I lived in Colorado for a few years and when planning a trip to Europe I went to my bank and asked for a few hundred euros. The teller says "we don't do that". I'm like, what do you mean you don't do that, you're a bank! Had to go to a different bank (only one did foreign exchange), fill out forms, pay a fee and it took several days to get it. Also couldn't get a chip and pin credit card from my US bank. they only had chip and signature. Ended up getting a US dollar chip and pin CC from my Canadian bank to go to Europe. US banking is very much behind the rest of the world.
  4. These are great photos. Can i ask what type of camera/lens you were using?
  5. Thanks for all the info. Not interested in renting a car. Kayaking might be fun. I'll look into that.
  6. Love Beaver Tails but it something I associate with skating on the canal so it is the only time I have them.
  7. But you do need to live in the US. Even though they let Canadians join AARP they do not allow us to be part of AARP rewards, so we cannot get the HAL gift cards.
  8. wow, that's a thing? kids might like it but not the healthiest of lunches.
  9. What is there to do in port Canaveral other than the space center? We are there as a port stop on Friday Oct 6 from 8 to 5. Thanks
  10. The other thing that makes the French onion soup great is that they use Gruyère cheese. I've been to places (not quebec) where they use mozzarella, not the same at all. I've never heard of chip butties.
  11. Some of us socialize, (not loudly) and enjoy the music. These are not mutually exclusive concepts.
  12. But is sounds like you saying that there shouldn't be live music in venues where people socialize because some people might be loud.
  13. no ever claimed it is fine dining. Just yummy. You say this like it's a bad thing. Yummy melty fresh cheese! rich flavourful gravy. Fries. 🙂 Of course it is not something you eat every day, but a nice treat a couple of times a year. There is also some great french onion soup in Quebec City. Last time I was there it was cold and rainy and this hit the spot. To each their own, there are a lot of foods that others eat that I don't understand. Mushy peas and creamed spinach come to mind.
  14. you just have to get it in the right place. I lived in Colorado for 4 years and saw some horrible versions in the US. I was in Disney last year and they had foods from around world in Epcot and the Canadian stand had what they called "classic poutine" made with boursin cheese. Absolutely NOT classic!
  15. I've done this hike up and down several years ago. not on a cruise ship. It is a pretty easy hike down. I don't remember the name of the trail. Does the tour discription say which trail they take? Here is a like to the different trails. https://parks.canada.ca/lhn-nhs/nl/signalhill/activ/ran-hik
  16. Love Poutine, crispy fries with fresh cheese curds with a dark brown gravy, Yum! 🙂
  17. That was the price on the NA in June.
  18. Do you mean HAL's exchange rate? How would that work?
  19. Why would you want to book with a TA that is difficult reach? That would be a big red flag for me.
  20. Thanks, I never got passed the screen for the telephone number so I didn't know you need a US card and address. That's too bad.
  21. I don't know about Carnival but I tried to get HAL gift cards from AARP but even though you can be an AARP member as a Canadian (I am) you need a US telephone number to be get to the site to buy gift cards.
  22. HAL's position seems to depend on who you speak to on any given day.
  23. I agree with you, I don't think a wine has to be expensive to be good, and I've also been in the Haven and have gone back to non-haven non-suite cabins. I just don't think the suite or haven are worth the money.
  24. Many people have been able to get the credit added to cruises that have been book much longer than the 7 days you have stated. There is al long thread on the HAL board about it.
