  1. You are right about "Scenic Cruising". Two things to consider. First the English Channel is as you say very busy and involves a Vessel Traffic System. The Captain goes where he is directed barring some emergency. Also the EC is approximately 22 miles wide at the narrows. For the most part you shall see the sea..... And ships, lots of ships.🍸
  2. If this link works you can navigate to SD I and see exactly what is planned for 2024.🍹 https://chr-h04.na1.hubspotlinks.com/Ctc/I5+113/cHR-H04/VVZ3Z038rxk1W4lbnKG7XCp_hW1KLHGL4LFZmSN78Lwt35nKvpV3Zsc37CgB29W31Zstv6n1-yhN4PSZCX-xj3ZW5mF6vG2DRKJVW6x4GWz3khmJjW1k_TD43FK6TYN995yxLnVnKRW6VXtrf8P__yqMfQcTj6Y6hlN1jFYl1r3z7pW5pfX6467k17NW7x8WMf9dgsvPW2PYQmV2BLs8vW12R9wP2xdPDNW4Krpvv705bVPW7jlrKp35XRX-W6xSqkB7vYzZdW2MM_WG9cDD9gW6-cPq244cXLlW120ZBS2znt9lW2LHldf3HlL5jW2J6qQs2dkFl5W93j9p454L4wSW1Ssdt62xZDX8W8rb1-n8TKPpDW2knxbT27yhrnW2BLbwm4YJY4vW67C_QT3hMGtgW28Ms3p5SmFgbW56L_WQ1Byml2N1H3b5fxG-DbW4B8wD64rn0gZW6kZMdl4ScmfzW7WD_HK9dHC2HW3sxvWs8rJxMD32k61
  3. Haha, so it takes more than gelato to sway you, Andy? I figured it's one of those "awards" that can be engineered. No offense to Engineers....🍺
  4. This is an interesting article that I would argue with to some extent. The gelato onboard Viking is made daily, according to the chefs we have had, and is, imho, very good. Anyone changing over to Princess for their "superior" gelato??😱 https://apple.news/AuDYAs0x1N96d8PqC4-_pWQ
  5. Glad we made it on our cruise or DW said I would have to buy her her very own pony....🍺
  6. This is Lad’s beer compared to the viscious thread, now in its second century over on the Cunard board. With your tux you must tie (self tie) your bow tie. A clip on bow tie is a sign of WW III.😱
  7. I agree the headline on this thread is very misleading and prejudicial. The OP is talking about buying the cruise. Very different from the onboard experience. Few of us like the payment/penalties of Viking and there are uncountable posts about poor service from "management" shoreside. As we and many others have said the onboard experience makes us tolerate the other stuff. As to costs, if one really does their homework, Viking is good value for money. As to all the pay in advance policies, my choice would be don't book if I am not willing to accept what they have for rules. Again, as many others have stated, all Viking's policies are well stated in advance.🍸
  8. Right-o Andy. When I ran my rust bucket freighter into the Bering Sea we used to get very low low pressure systems it seemed every three days. Fun. We always said if these lows were in the Caribbean they would have names. 😱 But there was this magic one day between systems with rather beautiful weather. Anyone going to the frozen, violent seas in the high latitudes do need to be properly informed. But the problem is if Viking really portrays the seas and climate as is, warts and all, they probably would have a dent in sales. Just as Alaska cruise brochures show beautiful well dressed people leaning on a sunny rail with a martini, the computer generated pictures of a calm, sunny Antarctica are just as misleading. But then, some of my most vivid memories of time at sea are stormy passages. I guess we might be strange Andy.🍺
  9. Sorry to hear but not surprised given the last few years. Th3y always did good work for us.
  10. Ha, I was going to recommend them as well but couldn't remember the name....🍺
  11. I understand it is recommended but not required. Imho always has been a third party duplication of effort waste of time. 🍸
  12. You might luck out and get a cab but most transportation is hired cars and coaches for those with included Viking transport to the airport. Smith's is a good car service.
  13. Those are some of the roughest seas in the world. It is inevitable to have some weather issues. Sometimes (if you have taken whatever motion sickness remedy) it's amazing to sit warm and cozy with your favorite beverage and watch the awesome power of the sea. But then you also want to get places. Just know this will be very different. I worked at sea in the Arctic but the other end has to be just as much fun....😎
  14. Ha, very young folks spending their honeymoon is usually with themselves. Anyone else is just decor....
  15. I am surprised at the legs this thread has and am very happy to have something besides covid to go on about. After reading all the posts I am reminded of Clark Griswold in National Lampoon's European Vacation where Clark is in a restaurant and chats up a newlywed couple.. "have you see the Louvre?" Answer: "No". "Have you seen the Eiffel Tower?" "Nope>" Have you seen Notre Dame?" "No"...... You get the drift.🍸
  16. i will second Mollymoo on age and active. We have only ever seen one 20 or teen ( have to be at least 18 on Viking) but lots of that age in the crew. We find the crew to be exceptional and we have a number of FB friends from the crew. Also, the ship is much more refined and beautiful compared to Carnival. Much less crowds and very much better food. Shore excursions and docking locations can also be much better based on the ship size and passenger load. I started life traveling Cunard which you know has an older demographic for the most part and I have loved all of them. Even our fun Carnival cruises. I think you two will have your own idea of what to do and will have a great time on Viking. Bet you get lots of "free" drinks when your fellow pax learn you are honeymooners....🍸
  17. Each cruise line that does world cruises has a forum here on Cruise Critic. Each forum has threads about their own world cruises. Use the search function to find WC threads and read, read, read. Then ask questions and most will be happy to help you with the details.🍸
  18. Bathrobe and slippers are in for the World Cafe.😳🍸
  19. Right. That's why I am not being rude to those who wish testing would remain. Just stating that it's nice to not be told "my way or the highway" by others. Who knows? The CDC might deem Monkeypox worth shutdowns.🍹
  20. And don't you miss those sweet people that loudly told you if you didn't like Viking's testing then just don't sail? Somehow, every dog seems to get his day....🍸
