  1. I just read an article about the Dunning-Kruger effect and the root cause is a total unawareness of yourself.
  2. I noticed this a few days ago. We are sailing less that 30 days out (DV1). Reservations never opened online for us. It just said they weren’t available. I wasn’t sure if they changed policy or if it’s been this way for a while.
  3. There are two types of people in the world, those who see the glass half full and those who yell “Who the hell stole my water!”
  4. Also interesting to note the Chelsea Flower Show is May 23-27. It's one of the largest flower shows in the world. We attended one year. It is spectacular.
  5. Since we’ve been to Venice before and are taking the pre-cruise extension there, we are considering the Viking optional excursion to Padua. From the map it seems like it might be quicker than trying to go back into Venice. Has anyone taken this excursion?
  6. Different target audience for the promotion? Different code can also determine what promotional channel was used and the effectiveness thereof.
  7. This thread is about Naples, not Venice.
  8. None https://www.travelagentcentral.com/cruises/italian-decree-bans-cruise-ships-from-venice-august-1-but-alternatives-planned
  9. Again, my issue is all the promotional material states that DVs get “1 guaranteed priority reservation at each alternative restaurant 60 days prior to departure.” This appears to no longer be the case. Don’t “guarantee” something you cannot deliver. For whatever reason, not allowing DVs to book advanced reservations was a decision made by somebody. Staffing shortages, COVID, supply chain issues, whatever, the reason is unimportant to me and I can accept that. Just don’t make false promises. If you can’t fulfill your “advance reservation guarantee” fine, then remove it from the “perks” listed in the advertising. It is deceptive.
  10. Seems the DV rooms are being locked out (read other posts on this forum). I wanted to make reservations for our wedding anniversary so I contacted Viking and the rep told me she would check every day to see if anything opens up but there was nothing else she could do. I've read on this forum that others, like you, have been accommodated. I guess it all depends on the whim of the agent and the luck of the draw. I'm hopeful that we can book once aboard but I know they are limiting the number of tables they are opening up to advanced reservations and this is impacting DV customers. My issue is that If they no longer are allowing DVs to reserve in advance they should change all their promotional material.
  11. FYI You can now change flights via MVJ without custom air. It's limited to those airlines Viking has arrangements with but it's a big improvement over the way it use to work. We were able to change our departure city as well as airlines and times all within MVJ.
  12. FYI Viking has a referral program, so you might want to use your parents as the referral.
  13. You might want to read this thread about promos and future cruise discounts while onboard.
  14. My one and only time in the TWA terminal was as a kid in 1970 when I flew to Europe with my father. Looks like they did a fantastic job preserving an architectural treasure.
  15. We are on the Mediterranean Odyssey in April and Monte Carlo is listed as a tender port.
  16. You can only book for your stateroom. Some excursions may have multiple busses/groups/guides. When onboard, if you both have the same excursion and time, you can ask to be placed in the same group.
  17. We are doing the pre trip extension in Venice so we are thinking about taking the optional trip to Padua when onboard the ship. Looking at the map, it might be a shorter trip than trying to go into Venice again. Has anyone taken this tour?
  18. FYI Viking has added the Scenic Chioggia excursion to their website. Looks like there is also a food tour.
  19. Yes, but since most people book as couples the probability of only one space being available is low.
  20. No. The process is the same. Both names will appear and you select the times for each person. This allows you go solo or, if you like, book separate tours or the same tour at different times. Please note that only one stateroom pax should be signed into MVJ at the same time. If both are logged on, one will be locked out of any updates.
  21. There included excursions and optional excursions available at additional cost. Both the free and optional excursions must be booked in advanced (Viking needs a head count). You can drill down on the website to the port on the day to day info of the cruise and see what is typically available. For example, here is Barcelona. The ones not marked “Included” are at additional cost.
