  1. Also, many times while on the line at the taxi stand at FLL shuttle drivers will walk over and tell you that they have room in their vehicle for transportation over to Port Everglades. They will tell you it's twenty per person for their service. Tell them you aren't interested and wait for the cab.
  2. Southport Raw Bar is very casual and has very good food. I have been there for dinner five times in the last three weeks while my kitchen is being renovated in Hallandale Beach. We love the fish tacos, fried fish sandwiches, New England Clam Chowder and the Conch Chowder.
  3. No car rental company at FLL provides free shuttle service from the Rental Car Center over to Port Everglades. That service was discontinued years ago. A cab from Level One over to Port Everglades will cost you less than twenty dollars plus tip and takes less than fifteen minutes. A few car rental companies had at one time offices located near the entrances to Port Everglades where you could return or pick up a vehicle. They mostly closed during the Covid Pandemic and never reopened.
  4. I would sleep in a hotel near the Port Of Miami and skip the Fort Myers overnight stop. If you overnight in Fort Myers you still have a two hour plus ride to get you to the Port Of Miami.
  5. I would definitely leave from Tampa a day before embarkation and stay overnight near the port. Hotels in the Miami Blue Lagoon area is a great spot for an overnight stay. On embarkation day wake up ready and refreshed for your cruise vacation. Have breakfast, drop off your rental vehicle and either shuttle, Uber or Lyft over to the Port Of Miami.
  6. Normally the transfer from ship to ship is available if both ships are both owned by the same cruise line company. Easiest way to make the change is grab a cab and advise the driver of your situation. Tip generously and you shouldn't have a problem moving over to the second ship.
  7. The flat rate cab from MIA to the Port Of Miami was discontinued approximately one year ago. Before it was discontinued the price for the twenty minute ride was twenty eight dollars plus tip. I don't know why the rate was discontinued when that is an extremely popular route for cruise passengers.
  8. I wouldn't bother with the train, especially with children and luggage. Spend extra and use either Uber, Lyft or a cab to get over to your hotel in Brickell. Definitely don't need the stress of using the train!
  9. You can spend a few hours at Jetty Park which is just south of Port Canaveral or Uber over to Ron Jon's Surf Shop which also is south of the Port. They have plenty of souvenirs there for sale.
  10. The Riverside Hotel on Las Olas Blvd is wonderful and very near a few great restaurants including Louie Bossi's Italian Restaurant, Big City Grill, American Social and Rocco's Tacos. The hotel is very close to FLL.
  11. Embassy Suites could use a refreshing and I have been stating that for years. I would definitely check on availability at the Riverside Hotel. A beautiful place on Las Olas Boulevard near one of my favorite places, Louie Bossi's Italian Restaurant.
  12. Many major airlines have nonstop flights from Heathrow to Miami. It would be tough to find any Heathrow to Fort Lauderdale nonstops. As for arriving in Miami, I would get transportation over to Fort Lauderdale and stay overnight there prior to your cruise departure. The Riverside Hotel on Los Olas Boulevard is close to many great restaurants and not too far away from Port Everglades.
  13. The downtown Miami location is always packed on cruise turnaround days. The facility is just too small for the amount of business they do there. So much easier to use the Miami International Airport Rental Car Center located across from Miami International Airport. The twenty four hour seven day a week location has plenty of employees, plenty of rental vehicles and plenty of space.
  14. I'm unaware of any shuttle service from West Palm Beach to the Port Of Miami. A rental car will work if you drop off the four passengers directly at the Port of Miami with all the luggage and return the rental vehicle at the Miami International Airport Rental Car Center located across from Miami International Airport. Then cab, Uber or Lyft back to the Port of Miami. Second choice would be to contact Larry's Limos for a price quote. Many Cruise Critic posters including myself highly recommend there transportation services.
  15. I would rent a vehicle from your home area for a minimum twenty four hour period to get over to Miami. At the conclusion of your cruise rent a vehicle from the Miami International Airport Rental Car Center for the trip back to Southwest Florida. This scenario would be better than parking your personal vehicle at a lot in the Miami area. It would be a lot cheaper too. I have read too many sad stories regarding parking in the Miami area. They involve damaged vehicles, poor security, stolen gas from parked vehicles m, etc.
  16. You could use the Metroliner from MIA to the Brightline Train Station in Miami. Then hop on the Brightline Train to the Fort Lauderdale Train Station. Then an Uber ,Lyft or cab to your hotel. A lot cheaper than a hundred fifty dollar fare.
  17. Free shuttle service from the Miami International Airport Rental Car Center to the Port Of Miami was discontinued approximately four years ago during the Covid Pandemic. To my knowledge the service hasn't been restored by any rental car company. A cab or Uber is the cheapest way to go for the short fifteen minute ride over to the Port Of Miami.
  18. The earlier you get there the better. The facility is too small for the amount of business it does on weekend cruise turnaround days. I remember years ago there was only one line so customers returning vehicles were on the same line as customers arriving to pick up their rentals. Under normal circumstances the pick up process takes a few hours. I normally pick up and return rental vehicles at the Miami International Airport Rental Car Center which is a state of the art large facility.
  19. The downtown Miami locations get very busy on cruise turnaround days.Make sure to get there early when returning your rental.
  20. Embassy Suites on 17th Street has a lot used for cruise passenger parking. Not sure of rates but you can easily contact them for current pricing. Parking at Port Everglades is also safe and secure.
  21. A generous tip to the taxi driver should get you from the Royal Caribbean pier over to the MSC pier.
  22. You have to have dinner at Louie Bossi's. The food is excellent, the drinks are great and the service is very good for a restaurant that's always packed. I would definitely recommend that you make reservations and be prepared to wait because everyone seems to eat there.
  23. Give a generous tip to the cab driver and it shouldn't be a problem. If your sailing on the same cruise line for the side by side cruises they may provide you with free shuttle transportation between ships. Ask at customer service on embarkation day.
  24. Do me a favor and stay one night in Elizabeth prior to your cruise. Have a nice dinner followed by a good nights sleep and your only thirty minutes away from Cape Liberty on embarkation day. I would be a nervous wreck if I was arriving at EWR at 11:00AM for a 3:00PM sailing.
  25. Handicapped parking is usually assigned to the parking garage next to the terminal. If and when the garage is at full occupancy regular and handicapped passengers are sent over to the large lot across from the terminal. When that fills up you are then directed to the outside warehouse lots located to the west of the terminal area. The walk back over to the terminal takes less than ten minutes. This was the scenario I encountered on my last Adventure Of The Seas five day sailing to Bermuda in June 2022.
