  1. @ronpes The Ovation “parks” just down the hill from our home. We hear her horns blast weekly. The forecast 8 days out is beautiful, although a tad warm for Seattle if it hits 90F. Enjoy Alaska!
  2. Summer has finally made it to Seattle. I was comfortable sitting on our deck last night without wearing a sweater for the first time this year. (We get the afternoon breeze blowing down the sound off of the water and it is chilly) I am thinking of each of you in France, England, Scotland, New Zealand, Australia, and Germany. I hope you can stay safe from fires and the heat.
  3. @Peckishpixie I also have many pair of shoes that were paid for dearly that are now too small or have heals I would harm myself to wear. They are a sunk cost. I have donated several pair to organizations that provide prom dresses, etc. for high school girls unable to afford to purchase their own.
  4. @bluemarble Wow! That is bizarre. I wonder what politics were involved in that decision.
  5. In Casino Royal there is a line, “there are dress jackets, and there are dress jackets, this is the latter.” I would say, there are t-shirts and there are t-shirts. There are well made, fitted shirts with a v-neck of a quality knit, and there are t-shirts you use to pull weeds. Athletic shoes for dinner…being from Seattle, however not cruised yet on Cunard, I would not wear what I consider athletic shoes to dinner. White leggings with a long beautiful flowing tunic? Absolutely! But, not with athletic shoes.
  6. Interesting. I’ll be watching to see if we received a similar email.
  7. @exlondoner I assume you have started packing since you leave tomorrow. Have a great trip and post when you can. 🙂 🙂
  8. @lissie Muir Woods is nice, easily walked, switch back driving to get there. I agree with you regarding buses. We did wine tasting, 3, in Oregon mid June. All required timed reservations and each tasting party was assigned a host to conduct the tasting. All had the option to taste outside. We loved it compared to the old style of elbowing at the tasting bar. I’d head to Carneros, which is about 1 1/2 hour drive from S.F. Really nice Pinot Noirs. My favorite is Patz and Hall. I don’t know what it would cost to hire a driver versus renting a car for the day from downtown. You could do Muir Woods and Carneros in one trip. In any case - have fun and make sure you have a rain coat.
  9. @rafinmd Dear Roy - I only know you through these threads, mostly through the sunrise thread. Yet I have tears in my eyes that this cruise has not been a wonderful time for you. No more standing in lines for hours with a 30 pound pack on your back. Based on your report I will not reveal that I am diabetic to crew, because I get to control my food. Please rest well. I may have to jump over to the HAL forum to follow your Panama Canal cruise in November, that is also on my list of cruises. Peace.
  10. CPAPs are so common that I would think any cruise ship, especially one that caters to people over 30, yes my son needs one, should have what is needed for what is now basic devices. There need to be outlets by the bed.
  11. @frankp01 A night light over the kettle might not help me get to where I need to “go” at night. 🙂
  12. I am trying to get rid of items, like all of our cruise paperwork, so my children don’t have to. Which is why I love my smart device made by a large Seattle based company that starts with an “A.” I have uploaded lots of pictures from past trips and it just sits and cycles through them. It is great fun to look at pictures of us having fun over the years. So much easier than all of those scrapbooks. Our grandchildren love to pull up a chair and watch them go by.
  13. @RJChatsworth I am sitting here saying “No, No, No!” I hope you have a mild case and the food you are served is enjoyable, and you have lots of good reading material, or movies. Best of luck.
  14. @lissie Sounds like @frankp01 may have added an item to our packing list ——- a night light! 🙂
  15. @exlondoner - I agree with find out before you leave home rather than mid-cruise. Here in Washington State the B5 variant has gathered momentum. Keep that mask firmly in place.
  16. @exlondoner Go On Now - pack that bag with confidence. I went to the BA website yesterday to check the size limits for luggage. Our final payment is due in one month. Have a great trip. I’m looking forward to your posts.
  17. @lissie Good for you for throwing away your make-up! I got rid of all of mine and bought a tinted sunscreen and that is all I wear now, and only to church or special occasions. I’m feeling good with my own skin. I subscribe to Eater San Fran. and have thought of you. Have you decided to do wine tasting? If so, where? I hope your trip is trouble-free.
  18. I can’t imagine standing anywhere for 4 hours. I am rethinking our July 4th cruise in 2023 to avoid NY embarkation. I am astounded that anyone would yell at passengers. I don’t know what time people were to board, but yelling at them wasn’t going to help. @lissie pointed out that in at least one case everyone was given the same boarding time. Cunard management needs to get involved.
  19. @D&N That sounds like a lovely way to spend the 4th in NY. Several years ago we booked a room in the Ritz Carlton at the Battery with a telescope and view of the Statue of Liberty. (No longer exists due to Super Storm Sandy). We watched the ships sail in and out and wanted to see the fireworks over the bay. Alas, they moved the fireworks to midtown on the Hudson. We ended up eating Sushi and drinking wine in Soho until midnight.
  20. @Host Hattie Shoes! Shoes! Shoes! Nordstrom is having their anniversary sale and I decided I needed a pair of silver sandals for the cruise. They should arrive any day, but not sure where I’ll wear them to get them broken in. I may have to plan a trip to Vegas!
  21. @RJChatsworth There has been mention there was a change on board from NY to Boston, I think I’m understanding your post as saying there is now a change for the better? More people wearing masks? Enjoy your crossing.
  22. @Tonopah I guess you must like living in Florida, but I could never stand the heat or humidity. New luggage! Always exciting because it means you get to go some place and have fun. We are also using Luggage Forward in December. 3 months - well that means you better start hanging items on the rack and making sure you have the perfect shoes.
  23. @Host Hattie I think of you often as I watch the Antiques Road Show! The countryside is beautiful. Glad to hear there aren’t more planned rail strikes.
