  1. Silversea should drop the surcharge and limit passengers to one booking per cruise up front. Regent does that and while that has its own challenges, nobody is booking a specialty restaurant every night then showing up just once. They can then charge you once you’ve dined, if the charge is that important, or just add $60 to everyone’s fare and call it even. I think Crystal gives you one free specialty restaurant per cruise, with an upcharge for other visits.
  2. I just tried to use OBC for excursions for a November 2024 cruise. No luck, I had to pay in advance. I'll wait for the moment; it's a Caribbean cruise and we've been to the ports before so perhaps we'll just stay in or venture into port on our own. I realize it's literally "on board credit" but many lines let you use it for excursions before booking.
  3. Thanks. I need to do some more follow up!
  4. What amount of coverage did you get, if you don’t mind saying. The ones I saw had pretty low cancellation limits, especially for a world cruise.
  5. We missed the wine tasting in the atrium on our first Regent cruise. The notice is not in the chronological listing in the daily program but rather with an “advertisement” off to the side. We were wiser the second time. 🍷
  6. We’re doing side-by-side cruises out of Port Everglades in February. Getting off one ship then embarking on a different ship later that morning. Looking for ways to fill the time, considering we’ll have a bunch of luggage. Not sure how soon we can drop luggage off at the second ship. We’d like to get on the second ship for lunch so not looking for a trip to the Everglades, for instance. I’m not sure what terminals we disembark and embark on yet. TIA!
  7. Dolores But You Can Call Me Lolita is really fun with good service and great food. We’ve been there twice; the first time just for the name alone! Outdoor rooftop dining. https://passionrestaurantgroup.com/restaurants/dolores-lolita/
  8. I don’t recall any option for a beverage package on prior Ama cruises. But you can certainly get a cocktail a la carte after dinner, or during for that matter.
  9. We’re looking into a Viking cruise next summer leaving from Bergen, so this has all been very helpful. @PRH—i see you’re from Scarborough, we live in South Portland. Practically neighbors!
  10. We were out for a walk tonight, just as the Ocean Navigator was leaving Portland. According to the Marine Traffic app, it’s heading to “Ocean Key, BHS” which is perhaps on the Bahamas? Here’s a photo of the ship leaving and a screenshot from the Marine Traffic app.
  11. Yes, I understand the economics but it’s a shame to see them go. We had two great cruises on the Countess, which had beautiful public areas and nice large staterooms. Oh, well…
  12. Interesting! I wondered how we got more than one login at a time, but I wasn’t about to go to IT and ask. We are now Silver, so I guess that was it.
  13. We were on the Grandeur just before the crossing and heard a little sound carryover from our neighbors. Not much though.
  14. @Zqueeze1 just getting caught up—so sorry to hear of your hospital visit! Best wishes for a speedy recovery and more cruises!
  15. I had the app on my recent Grandeur cruise. The biggest advantage was having Passages available without having to take a photo or carry around the paper copy. Also available off-ship. Nice having port agent contact off-ship too, if it’s ever needed.
  16. We got off in New York after a wonderful cruise—glad things are still going well on board!
  17. You also get a 10% discount on wine lunches.
  18. We didn’t even have to visit anybody—we just kept logging in. I know we had three simultaneous logins, I didn’t try for more.
  19. Oh, gosh—I’ve been lurking and enjoying your cruise blog and I’m so sorry to see it’s come to an end this way. I hope your husband heals quickly and you’re back cruising again!
  20. I didn’t notice CR being particularly loud when we’re on just recently. As a hearing aid wearer, I tend to notice those things. I thought the music piped in was at an ok volume but sometimes the music didn’t go with the venue. Just another viewpoint for anyone reading this thread, and not disputing the observations of others.
  21. Well, we’re off the ship now, in Moynihan Train Hall. Disembarking was easy. (Finding a taxi was harder.) It was an excellent cruise with great dining and wonderful entertainment. We met friends for dinner in the city last night, at La Bernadin. That’s been a long-time desire of ours to dine there and it was everything we hoped for. Notably, this three Michelin Star restaurant and the Grandeur have the same level of service. That says a lot, a lot a lot, about Regent’s crew. We were very happy to find out this morning that Monique and Natasha will be with us on the Splendor in July!
  22. There is a great skit from Monty Python with John Cleese yelling in a nice restaurant about “clever people like me who talk loudly in restaurants.” Unfortunately I’ve had to quote that line periodically although only once on this cruise.
  23. I had the beef Penang and thought it was delicious! The New York harbor lecture was great too. We met friends in port today and had dinner in Charleston at High Cotton. It was very good except I had to pay for our drinks and dinner! 😄😄😱
