  1. Thank you so much for taking us along on your great cruise with Gen Z. It looked like a fabulous mother daughter cruise. I look forward to your summary. Safe travels home and back to normal life.
  2. Which itinerary are you booking ? As others here said, there are many active excursions on most cruises. I too took the Scenic Scandinavia cruise in June. They had hiking, kayaking and bike tours besides the walking or bus tour excursions. The bike excursion was filled when we were in Bornholm Denmark. A passenger had contacted a local bike shop and five bikes were delivered to the pier for passenger and his friends to bike on the island for the day.
  3. So happy to see your cruise is at hand.🥂 Love reading your reports. At a certain age one can celebrate a birthday for weeks...Happy Birthday Mike! Clay, I thought of you yesterday, My local co-op Mississippi Market had pistachio chocolate rolls in the bakery case. 🙂 Enjoy your breakfast lamb chops and all the sea days at the beginning of your cruise. Patti
  4. You re correct. UK and Australia always have different rule for cruising . I was only speaking as someone from the US.
  5. I know I did too. Also Mark Twain loved the island ! His statues are around the island. Great one in the lobby of an art museum of a private collection of art painted by artists who had been on the island in the day. His house he stayed will be pointed out on the excursion of Houses of the Rich and Famous.
  6. You can bring all the wine or liquor or other beverages you want on board. Viking treats their passengers like adult, no nickel and dimming once on board.
  7. It is their business model since they started Viking Ocean. I always thought it was to stop the folks who put deposit down for a number of cruises when they first come out a s a place holder , and then cancel before final payment. That is what happened in the old days on other US cruise lines ... Viking is not a US cruise line. My first TA on Viking Ocean I paid a year and half in advance. Since , I have only booked a cruise when on a cruise and get 6 months before cruise for final payment. Or if you have a cruise already booked you can request a 6 month final payment on a new cruise you are adding. Otherwise I booked a few Welcome Back cruises during the Pandemic and paid in full at time of booking. Currently, they have $50.00 deposit promotion on all sailings. If It found the right itinerary I would have no problem booking it and paying far in advance. I always pay with e- check and get a 3.3% off the price too. I can live with their business model. I love cruising on Viking Ocean ships.
  8. Welcome to your first Viking cruise. All drink prices ,including drink package, include the gratuity. No need to tip additionally. I have always had the drink package . I do know you also get a discount on a bottle of wine but do not know what percentage is currently. I suggest you go on your MJV and go to link to Silver Spirit drink package and it the provide a list of benefits . I have brought a bottle of wine on board when we were in port in Spain. Gave to to the Restaurant host to chill for dinner. No corkage fee on Viking if you bring your own bottle to dinner.
  9. There is a Forum r for River Cruising . Look on the main page of Cruise Critic to find it. This is the Viking Ocean Forum page. I do like that he Mississippi Viking River Boat is stopping at my city, St.Paul MN. I have posted posts on the River forum about this great port of of call.
  10. I loved Bermuda when I went inSummer of 2021 on a cruise. I had a great time on the excursion “famous homes and hideaways. It is a boat cruise with a great on board guy doing the narration. You also get s rum drink . Ok jJust want to say that Special Ed teachers are all heroes in my book . have a great birthday cruise and look forward to your trip report
  11. Had the best Cosmos on the Jupiter in the Restaurant many evenings at dinner,, better than at the Aquavit Bar. just ask for a lemon drop martini at any bar. As Jim said they do not put every cocktail on the menu.
  12. Looking forward to reading your trip report. You excitement comes through so clearly in your posts. Happy that your vacation and cruise is beginning at long last.
  13. Loving your review of you mother /daughter cruise . I know that you are making your daughter into a great cruiser for life! 🥰 and making great memories for the both of you.
  14. Please post some picture. As an arm chair cruiser at the moment, I love seeing where others are cruising. I would love to go to Iceland as a pre or post extension . thank you for taking us along.
  15. Yea!🎉 hope the volcano blow any ash in the opposite direction of your flight path !
  16. Viking Ocean has a destination offerings every night on their Restaurant menu. I loved it on our Scandinavian cruise in June. Up next will be a Viking Greek cruise and I expect to have lots of good Greek items to eat on board. Pease do eat off ship at any sidewalk cafe and have some great local food.
  17. Clay when do you leave for your cruise?. Active volcano will be part of the mix.!
  18. I used both Visa and Master Card in Sweden and Denmark . Just tap the card as above poster says . Easy , even street vendors use it . A couple of times I just had to sign a slip. This was at an artist studio in Copenhagen.
  19. We stayed at the same hotel post cruise on June. It is great with nice big rooms and bathroom for a European hotel .lovey breakfast and great bar . Try the breakfast gin for a G & T . There is a great food market about 10 minutes away . Lots of fresh produce , fruits cheese etc. food stalls around the edges .reminded me of Barcelona food markets We ate there , food was fresh and wonderful . Be sure to do a canal boat ride . We just got tickets when we showed up . It last 1 hr and great views of the landmarks from water and going under the bridges was a great. Loved Copenhagen , people, food and easy city to walk in.
  20. Love the map dresses on both of you ! Have a great embarkation day . check out Viking Ocean for you and your mom. They do Hawaii, 15 days round trip from LA . No casino , nor kids under 18 and all veranda state rooms , and upgraded beverage package is $25. pp per day !
  21. Stunning photos and videos. Thank you so much.
  22. If you want fly in in early or stay later using VikingAir you pay a deviation fee, this I do know. Don't know about using MJV to change items. I only used Viking during COVID and we flew in the day of cruise, but ship said import overnight. I booked my own air for our last cruise in June.
  23. First cruise to Eastern Med was early Sept years ago, very very hot. Second time it was in late Oct -mid November. perfect weather and no crowds. We are going on 10 day Greek Odyssey on Viking Star in Feb 2025. they call it the "Quiet Season". Fine with me. Like others I am interested in the history and historical sites of the places I will visit. Half of the ports are repeat and other half are new. I loved the Corinth tour we did years ago. Went to the Corinth ruins and the nice museum on site, and then took a boat through he Corinth Canal. it was a great day. This future cruise,I I will even get off ship on Santorini if we are the only ship in the caldera. 🙂
  24. What a great picture. I can just imagined an ancient Viking ship sailing out of the fjord to places unknown. You need to be a hardy lot to live in Norway.
  25. Thank you so much for your review of your cruise. Very helpful description of your excursions . I totally agree that Viking is back to their pre covid standards and the service is outstanding on the ship! I just returned from a cruise on the Viking Jupiter a few weeks ago.
