  1. "Our youth centers are operated byexperienced staff, dedicated to keeping our youngestguests safe and happy. Our Beach House Teen Loungeis available for teens ages 12-17, with fun activitieshosted by our staff." I would bring a copy of this with you. As the previous poster mentioned many of these decisions are made by the youth staff on board. Call center personnel only know the same information that you read on the Princess site. Since you mention you are planning for next summer I expect you are thinking about Alaska. Expect lots of youth and families on an Alaska trip.
  2. Port & Starboard cabins Deck 8, 18 mini suites aft with 9ft x 6ft covered balconies Deck 9 mini suites, 9ft x 6ft uncovered Deck 10 balcony category, 9ft x 9ft half covered Deck 10 full suites 18ft x 9ft half covered Decks 11, 12 & 14, balcony cat, 9ft x 5ft covered Cabins on the stern have various sizes and various amount of cover. Check out the deck plans. Also check out the deck plans on the Princess site for connecting cabins.
  3. Here you go. Some examples of balcony cabins that are not 'premium' that have large balconies. There are other examples. Sapphire Princess- C110 to C243, C618 to C747. Other Grand Class ships are similar Discovery Princess - E101 to E117, E403 to E437, D407 to D429. Emerald Princess - in addition to those on deck 10, R746/7 Emerald Princess C752 & 3 are two examples of 'premium' balcony cabins with regular size balconies. You have to search the deck plans ship by ship and deck by deck
  4. "Premium" does not mean larger balcony. You have to search the deck plans to find which cabins have larger balconies.
  5. Probably not now, unless we require a capital loss for tax purposes.
  6. Cabin 1 (4 people): Two adults, 10, 11 year old Cabin 2 (2 People): Grandparents 70ish and 80ish Cabin 3 (1 person) Grandparent 70ish Cabin 4 (1 person) Sister late 40's Cabin 5 (2 people). Brother late 40's + 9 year old The singles in a cabin will pay the single supplement which is paying for two passengers when only one in the cabin. You should look into moving the youth around so that two are in each cabin. You can change when on board. Note that there are limited cabins that sleep 4. Mini suites are best for this. Make sure you search the deck plans to find ones that do and then have that booking marked no upgrade. If it is important to have your cabins near each other then you might want to have your bookings marked no upgrade. Otherwise Princess may move your cabin. Cabin categories marked "Premium" are the same as those not marked "premium". The difference is location. Casual/comfortable (don't want to have to dress up) Dress is casual all day. DR dress is smart casual in the evening. There will be two formal evenings in the DR. On an Alaska cruise many passengers still dress smart casual during formal evenings. We spend considerable time in the cabin On all Princess ship balcony cat cabins and lesser cat. cabins do not have a seating area in the cabin. On the Grand Class ships, Sapphire & Grand, you have to book a mini suite or full suite to have a sofa. On Royal Class ships, Majestic, Royal and Discovery deluxe balcony cabins have a two seat sofa, mini suites and full suites also have a sofa. Balcony cat and below do not have a sofa or seating inside the cabin. On Grand Class ships mini suite balconies, deck 9, are 9ft x 6ft not covered, except for those on deck 8 aft which are covered. Balcony cat cabins on deck 10 have 9ft x 9ft balconies that are half covered. Balcony cat. cabins on other decks have 9ft x 5ft covered balconies. Stern facing cabins have various size balconies. Royal class ships have small balconies. Most are 9ft x 4ft. By searching the deck plans you can locate those cabins that have larger balconies. With the Ocean Now App you can order food and beverage to you cabin or anywhere on the ship you happen to be. Many of the food items are no charge. Beverages are whatever they cost + the 18% service charge. There is no delivery charge. Can't comment on other cruise lines.
  7. Assuming you have booked a full suite and not a mini suite. A few of the good highlights. *Excellent prepared to order full suite breakfast at Sabatini's each morning. Order from the menu, or order anything. If they have the ingredients it will be prepared for you. This is one of the best full suite benefits. Don't miss it by ordering breakfast in your cabin. *Dinner each evening and lunch on sea days in the Club Class section of the Concerto DR. Walk in anytime and be seated almost immediately. *Like wine, try Vines. By next year wine inventories should continue to improve from the start up shortages. *Concierge Lounge on deck 14 aft. *International Cafe open most of the time. By next year it could return to 24/7. *Order a variety of food & drink for delivery anywhere on the ship using the Ocean Now App, your TV or one of the screens around the ship. Much of the food is no charge. *If you do not have the plus or premier fares suggest you look into them. It takes two to three alcoholic beverages/pp/day to break even, limit of 15 alcoholic beverages/pp/day. Most nonalcoholic beverages are unlimited, including specialty coffees, fountain sodas, waters and more. *Both specialty restaurants Crown Grill and Sabatini's are very good. * We loved Crooners Lounge in the evening. A very popular piano lounge. The not so good *No real ballroom dance floor. Dancing is in the Piazza area and sometimes in the Vista Lounge. *No walkable promenade. Walking track all the way on the upper deck. *Princess Live isn't very comfortable for seating or activities. *Full suite passengers do not receive comp. access to The Enclave if that is your thing. Here is the full suite PDF https://www.princess.com/downloads/pdf/ships/PrincessSuite_eFlyer.pdf
  8. Amended job posting Low pay. Job requires long work long hours during which you will be breathing second hand smoke and damaging your immediate and long term health. Job can cause serious illness and result in death. Illness and death probability increases for current smokers.
  9. The position is a high senior officer. In my way of thinking you don't tip a senior officer.
  10. I say yes. Not everyone carries around portable internet devices. We have one cell phone for two of us. Require someplace to print. Yes, printing is still needed at times. Personally it is difficult for me to use the phone's keyboard. Much easier to send emails using a full keyboard.
  11. It is fine when a cruise ship defines smoking areas that are separated so passengers can avoid those areas. Princess had done this fairly well in the past. However, one of the biggest complaints is the casino, an entertainment area for all passengers on the ship. Just as other passenger entertainment areas are non smoking so should the casino be non smoking. Princess places the possible loss of revenue above the health of its passengers and more important their own casino employees. Imagine this job posting. Position available: Low pay. Job requires long work long hours during which you will be breathing second hand smoke and damaging your immediate and long term health. Job can cause serious illness and result in death.
  12. England's currency is British Pounds, not Euros. It would be rare that a British taxi driver would accept foreign currency as payment. Most taxi drivers do accept credit cards. Would a taxi driver in NJ accept Euros, Can$? Don't think so. Yes, many banks will buy and sell foreign exchange as you found in Guernsey. You can also exchange at international airports when you arrive. Some hotels also will accept foreign currency as part of the payment.
  13. No concierge lounge on the Diamond Princess.
  14. Best advice, I believe, is to use credit cards that do not charge a foreign exchange fee. Carry as little cash as possible. For pre-cruise stays we generally go to a bank's ATM and just get enough local cash that may be required. I remember in Copenhagen the canal tour and train would accept payment in US$ at a not so good, but not so bad exchange. In the past we did deposit some currency, either Euros or GBP don't exactly remember, into our on board account at a bad exchange rate. Bills only, no coins. Don't believe the ship will accept any currency, example Argentina Pesos. We used all of our pesos up by overtipping our tour guide and purchasing some soda to bring on board.
  15. Shareholder and Vets OBC goes by booking number. One booking number on a 14 day cruise = $250 shareholder OBC/cabin and $250/qualified person up to two per cabin in military benefit. The amounts are $100 for each cruise when booked as two 7 day cruises.
  16. Expect 100's when the sailings are sold as both 7 day and 14 day cruises.
  17. It takes a long time to off load 3,00 passengers. If you are on a morning ship's tour you will meet on board and the tour will have have priority tendering. If not on a ship's tour you will have to get a tender ticket. It is one tender ticket/person. One family member can not pick up tickets for the entire family. All must be present. Tender ticket location is usually in a DR. Lahaina port was closed for some time for construction. It used to be one small dock shared by both ship's tenders and the public. Was very slow. Maybe it is better now. During peak times the lines to return to the ship are long. Can't comment on Kona.
  18. Yes in most cases. The divider opens at the cabin wall and the opening is about two feet wide. Wide enough to pass between, but not wide enough to make one large balcony. Bring a bungee or some rope ties. When the ships get older sometimes the latch becomes misaligned and may not fully hold open.
  19. Mention on the cruise critic roll call site. Princess probably will not mention private games in the daily patter. For pick up games of mahjong watch the Patter for times and locations of unhosted games. These will probably be in either the Crown Grill or one of the DRs.
  20. First, I looked at the 2 7D cruises that make up this cruise, and the individual cruises (for the category we booked) were appx $4K more than the 14 day. Is that normal? Don't know the new normal. In the past booking two 7 day cruises was just about the same price as one booking number for the 14 day. $4,000 difference seems high. Maybe it has something to do with Christmas and New Year holidays. Next, does Princess limit available cabins as I saw cabins available for the individual cruises that were not available for the 14 day one. Yes. Princess sets aside most cabins for the 7 day cruises and then a smaller number of cabins for the two week bookings. Lastly, how does disembarkation/embarkation work between cruises? Fort Lauderdale? It is easy. You will receive instructions in your cabin. Read and follow them exactly. You will have two options. a) Disembark and go into town. Bring your passports, medallions and intransit card (supplied on board) with you. Re-board anytime after general boarding has begun, usually around 11:30 +/- . You will have to go through immigration when disembarking and security when re-boarding. b) Choose not to go into town. Meet at the designated location and time, shown in the instructions, on board. It is usually the theater. You must show up. There are no exceptions. The usual meeting time is around 9:30am so you have time to have a nice breakfast. Once all those disembarking have cleared the ship your group, there will be hundreds of you, will be escorted off the ship and through immigration. Once every passenger is off the ship then your group will be permitted to re-embark. If even one passenger is missing you will have to wait until that passenger is located and exits the ship. If you are staying in the same cabin then leave everything as it is like a normal day. If you have to change cabins your cabin steward will provide instructions.
  21. It isn't the Wheelhouse that is on Grand Class ships. On the Discovery it is what you see as the Crown Grill Bar. On the Royal & Regal it was still named Wheelhouse Bar. Starting with the Majestic it has been named Crown Grill Bar. The grand class atmosphere of leather chairs, smooth music and a small dance floor are gone. There may be some music in the evening. I would try Take Five lounge on deck 6
  22. Have been on the Royal Princess a number of times, but not since the restart. When the Royal Princess was newer the Retreat Pool area was lighted with colorful lights and some other lighted decorations in the evenings. Very few people went there. A few years later the concept was basically eliminated. It might have been open one evening during the cruise.
  23. On Royal Class ships you will find M6 minis on the upper decks 15 & 16 all the way forward. They have a different design. I have not checked every other ship's deck plans ( you could do that, but believe M6 minis are only on royal Class ships.
  24. Go to the Princess web site. Select onboard our ships. Then select Enchanted Princess and then deck plans. All the categories are show there by deck. I see Green is a cat. BF balcony cabin and kind of grey is a cat BC balcony cabin. Same cabin design, different locations with BC perceived by Princess as a better location than BF. There are many different colors. To search for what cabins are connecting if you wish to find or eliminate them check the connecting cabin box.
