  1. Aloha. Back in the 1970s every ship creaked loudly. Was surprised as the years and technology progressed there was less of it. I still enjoy it although the Mrs…not so much lol.
  2. Aloha. Blessed to sail NCL and also Bermuda for decades. I personally would not and never have sailed to Bermuda during the late summer to late spring but many do. I also would not fly to Bermuda until late May to late August. That said I hope the newlyweds have many years of a happy and healthy marriage.
  3. Aloha. Blessed to sail NCL for decades. Hope you have a wonderful time and thank you for the food pictures lol.
  4. Aloha. I respect many may disagree but I do enjoy the rough seas! Have been blessed to transit the Atlantic, Bay of Biscay and the Drake Passage. The wife…not so much lol.
  5. Aloha. Thank you for the pictures. Have been blessed to sail HAL for decades and thoroughly enjoy their various dining options. David Burke is well know in the NYC area for his clothes line bacon and we have enjoyed it many times. Many restaurants have copied the idea and refer to it as Neuskes bacon which is a particular brand and most often not on a clothes line but is becoming as popular as shrimp cocktail lol.
  6. Aloha. Have been blessed to sail in QV and did not experience the banging issue you described. That said, have been in other ships over the years and if we chose a lower deck forward cabin did experience banging which whilst I am not an engineer believes it to be the waves crashing in and around the bow of the ship.
  7. Yes for this year. We had planned in advance because of the particular year’s holidays falling close. Originally we were going to do Australia and New Zealand when the ship would be in Sydney Harbor for New Years but decided on the South America voyage instead.
  8. Aloha. Thank you for the information and your experiences as I always appreciate new and updated information. As a respectful opinion I would not characterize it as a bombshell.
  9. Aloha. We have been b to sail HAL since the 1970s and the Oosterdam and South America/Falklands and Antarctica as well. You will have a wonderful time in a wonderful ship and a wonderful priceless experience. We sailed a similar itinerary during Hanukkah and Christmas and New Year and it was magical. Looking forward to your posts and pictures especially of the food lol!
  10. Aloha. I respectfully place Carnival in a separate category. I have always been satisfied with Celebrity having sailed with them since they started in the Meridien, RCCL with Nordic Prince in early 1980s, HAL in the 1970s, NCL also, Princess 1980s, Cunard 1970s, and it goes on lol. They are all unique as are hotels so have yet to be disappointed. Carnival just didn’t meet my wife’s expectations but for me I enjoyed it and so did my BIL and we travel well together and I enjoy his company. Being born and raised in Manhattan I am used to rowdy, drinking, weed, blah blah blah and a level of misfits and knuckleheads including cities around the world. When on a ship however one is stuck with his fellow passengers for a period of time. That is where I try to mitigate my exposure to stupid.
  11. Aloha. Have been blessed to cruise since 1971 and have sailed the world on various lines and ships. We tried Carnin the early 1990s and my wife will never sail with them again. I have with my brother in law several times and we had great times and I would do it again but am seriously apprehensive. I am concerned about the rowdy crowds, the smell of weed which I personally abhor, excessive drunken passengers and the fights. Now that is only my opinion but remain open minded but since it is my money I have the right to my opinion. I know cruising has changed on all the lines and have personally experienced it but I just don’t know.
  12. Aloha. Thoroughly enjoying your posts and pictures. Have been blessed to sail several Christmas and Hanukkah voyages. They are so special. Not only with family but the festive spirit, mass and services at sea, special events and dinners (love the goose lol) and santa arriving by lifeboat! Memories to cherish! All blessings
  13. Aloha. Interesting about Ingram. I just can’t help but feel sad because HA hires multi generational people and while the business community applauds the deal I worry the atmosphere will change.
  14. Aloha. I agree with your analysis. I hope the ‘Ohana atmosphere and work culture doesn’t disappear. Flying regularly between JFK and HNL I have become friends with many FA and staff. I remember sadly when one FA perished in the Marco Polo fire. I just home Alaska doesn’t ruin it.
  15. Aloha. Totally agree. Dunkerly created a family (‘Ohana) atmosphere which the new misfits have really downgraded. Generations of family work aboard and we love their interisland and JFK-HNL which we are blessed to take all the time. I hope Alaska doesn’t ruin it. They do need new interisland planes though as the HA 717s are getting quite old.
  16. Aloha. Thank you so much for your comprehensive review and food pictures too! As I regularly post we have been blessed to cruise since the 1970s. Unfortunately the food aboard ships have become mass market catering primarily due to cost and the massive amount of food required to prepare for the massive amount of passengers. It is what it is. We have started sailing with smaller more luxury ships as we age and it does mitigate some of my issues. Nevertheless it is wonderful to read posts such as yours and glad you had time to spend with your family. All the best!
  17. Aloha. Thank you. Enjoyed your review and sorry some things were not as expected and disappointing. All regards.
  18. Aloha. Appreciate your attempt to post a long detailed review but I had to stop reading because of the font. Sorry
  19. Prayers and Blessings and condolences for your loss and the repose of your father.
  20. Aloha. Thank you for taking time to post reports and of course food pictures! We love the UK and hope you have a wonderful holiday!
  21. Aloha. We loved the Falklands but in my opinion the roads are rough. I too have had back surgery and I will tell you that I felt it. It is of course a personal decision and every medical situation is unique and must be weighed with the generally once in a lifetime Falklands experience. Please keep us posted and all blessings and best wishes.
  22. Aloha. As always if you recall I enjoy your reports and especially food and menu pictures. I thank you for posting the new menus which I look forward to reading. I have menus saved from cruises from the 1970s as well as photos and pictures. Time flies but always with fond recollections and you certainly assist with wonderful recalls. My first Celebrity cruise was the Meridian and then most of their ships many times since then. Please wish Iain blessings for his eye procedure in January. I am glad yours went well some time ago. All the best!
