  1. Aloha. Sorry to Hijack the thread but FlatbushFlyer…I keep thinking of a Clive Cussler novel 😂
  2. Aloha. Having been blessed to sail for decades I never remember the names of Captains, CDs etc. I respect that many contributors to these boards seem very into who they are but have been pleased with all of them.
  3. Aloha. I have read from several sources that sadly that seems to be the case. Having been blessed to cruise since 1971 we loved the Song of America. Many ships we have sailed in have met the breakers and we have fond memories and memorabilia which I look at often. All the best!
  4. Aloha. We are blessed to have this first world problem. That said, my wife packs as much as she wants depending on where we are going without worrying about weight or amount of luggage as we will pay for any excess. We also divide clothing in each suitcase between us in case luggage is lost. That was the case on a long South America Antartica voyage when fortunately our luggage’s was not lost but our friends were and never found so we were able to provide them with clothes for the entire vacation. At least they were our size lol. As we divide our time between NY and Honolulu we have enough belongings in both locations so our travels are light. Be grateful for this problem as we are after 37 years of marriage.
  5. Aloha. I appreciate your response and explanation. Thank you.
  6. Have been blessed to sail many holidays aboard various cruise lines and ships. We sailed a Princess South America cruise and NYE was excellent and Christmas/Hanukkah was magical. The goose on HAL and Midnight Mass was priceless. Enjoy!
  7. Aloha. I am very tolerant and respectful of everyone and their opinions and my opinion is that this issue is no different than alcoholism and if you need to take it on a cruise and can’t do without it you should seek professional help.
  8. Aloha. Glad you are enjoying. We have been blessed to take similar cruises with similar ports and were fortunate to visit the Falklands although my parents took a similar cruise and the stop was cancelled. All the best!
  9. Aloha. Looking forward to your posts and hope you have a fantastic voyage. We loved our Antartica cruise and sailing through the Drake was very memorable as was the Bay of Biscay and Transatlantic. Our daughter thought she was at Disney World lol. All the best!
  10. Aloha. Looking forward as always to your posts and as I always say…food pictures lol!
  11. Aloha. Always enjoy your reports and pictures. Have a blessed Thanksgiving and a wonderful voyage!
  12. Aloha. As always I enjoy your reports. Have been blessed to be invited to private bridge tours over the years and am intrigued by the changes over the years with technology.
  13. Aloha. We are blessed to divide our time between NY and Honolulu and have been cruising since 1971 and for decades with NCL and others. That said in 2004 we were scheduled to sail on the POA but due to a problem with the ship, it was replaced with the Pride of Aloha. Having a carefree attitude even I had to complain politely but firmly and NCL did step up and comped us in the specialty dining rooms and other rebates. The food in those dining rooms were up to NCL par but the service throughout the ship not so much. Enter POA which to this day whilst improving is still below international crew expectations and experience. The Morton’s example is well founded. We regularly dine at Mortons and other similar and while the POA has improved you need to sail with the understanding that in general, seasoned cruisers will be somewhat disappointed because we have come to expect a certain atmosphere provided by the crew which is different aboard the POA. The pro is that you save flying around the islands and use the ship in its pure sense as a floating hotel. The convenience is excellent for first time visitors who want a sample of the islands and then hopefully can visit them for longer times in the future. Well worth it. We have sailed the POA a few times for fun although we fly to the Big Island and Maui for staycation weekends. That said it has its positives but you must go with positive attitude lest you be disappointed. And chengkp75 I am sure we were on the Pride of Aloha during that summer of 2004! It is always a pleasure to read your posts and contributions!!!
  14. Aloha. Looking forward to your reports. Have a wonderful time!
  15. Aloha. With all due respect leave it at home.
  16. Aloha. Enjoyed your review and especially the food pictures lol which I always love. We were blessed to sail in your ship years ago and have been sailing with Royal for decades. Always enjoy the wonderful memories and I thank you for taking the time to give such detail. All the best.
  17. Aloha. Have been blessed to sail Cunard for decades in many of their ships and in various stateroom categories. In May 2004 when the QM2 was brand new I invited about 40 relatives to join my parents for a 50th wedding anniversary sailing. It was a memorable experience and I thank you for this thread. Sad to say my father is no longer with us and my mom at 90 has dementia robbing her of all her experiences. Other relatives have also left us but the joy was priceless. We have sailed QM2 many times since and their other ships as well as my parents before my father’s passing and mom’s illness but fond memories will always be with us. All the best!
  18. We have been blessed to visit Bermuda by air and sea for decades. Generally the real season weather and ocean temperature wise is may until late August. The water between NY and other Atlantic ports to Bermuda can be rough even during those months so the issue becomes shoulder season without the hot weather and kids and ocean and air temperatures. Please consider these thoughts and suggestions. It is a beautiful country although the shopping and general atmosphere has changed over the years but that is true everywhere. Please keep us posted and enjoy!
  19. Aloha. So happy you are enjoying your voyage. We have been blessed to visit Tahiti countless times and sometimes scoot over for a few days from Honolulu. We generally stay in Papeete at the Intercontinental since it is only one flight although Bora Bora is magical. I believe Bloody Marys is still closed for renovations. The overwater Bungalows are no longer unique to Tahiti but priceless. Anyway love reading your posts and writings because images flash in my mind. All the best!
  20. Aloha. Have been blessed to sail many TAs and various Atlantic routes and the weather from day to day hour to hour can be quite dynamic. I find it part of the adventure.
  21. Aloha. I am glad they are doing it. The annoying smell permeating on Carnival ships is repulsive. Keep it at home in my opinion or stay home. Because some people “need” to have it the rest of us have to smell that garbage thus the need for the dogs.
  22. Aloha. Have been blessed to sail NCL since the 1970s and also to Bermuda via ship and air countless times. Congratulations on Birthday and have a great time hopefully with great weather and seas and lots of food pictures lol!
  23. Aloha. Blessed to sail Princess for decades and enjoyed the Ruby as well. Have a great holiday and keep the food pictures coming 😂
