What does Celebrity do for special occasions?
Cruise a holic replied to stah1mr's topic in Celebrity Cruises
I have paid around $50 to have the room and door decorated. It is very festive! And you get a cake also. It is on the website. Special ocassions. -
LOS Cape Liberty check in arrival
Cruise a holic replied to ChristieNJ's topic in Royal Caribbean International
We will be sailing again this august out of bayonne. I wonder what will happen regarding arrival times -
I also like big- new ships. Last year we did the Adventure of the Seas and we were very disappointed. No comparison to the Oasis class ships. Will not sail on that ship again. However the Oasis is sailing out of port liberty to florida and the caribbean and we will sail on her this summer. Some of the celebrity ships have been redone- like the summit and it doesn't have "all the bells and whistles" but is a very good ship.

Which ship?

LOS Cape Liberty check in arrival
Cruise a holic replied to ChristieNJ's topic in Royal Caribbean International
We did the Oasis last August, and will again this August out of Bayonne. They are very strict about arrival times and boarding. If you are in a suite however, you can line up and board early. You might have to wait as they will not even let you line up before your scheduled arrival time. Call and see if you can modify. Good luck. -
However, IMO no comparison MSC to Royal. MSC beautiful ships- the yacht club is a step above the regular MSC passenger areas, but the food isn't good. Entertainment not nearly as good as Oasis class ships. My only complaint about Royal, I am an Diamond plus member, is the Adventure of the seas- old ship- needs major renovation. Also the Adventure, school cafeteria buffet room needs major overhaul. Need to be more like Celebrity with multiple stations all around the buffet area.

Laundry Wash & Fold versus Back Home Laundry Bag
Cruise a holic replied to Joe33472's topic in Celebrity Cruises
We get some free laundry as elite plus members. We just send out underwear, pj's, socks and cheap tee shirts. I wouldn't send them anything valuable as they mix the laundry and use very hot water. Also as somebody previously said they put little stickers on the laundry which isn't easy to remove. Dry cleaning not bad for a fee of course. But if you have cruise credit and want to use it great. -
Grand suite vs owners suite
Cruise a holic replied to colesc15's topic in Royal Caribbean International
Imo not much. Both one large room. Owners is larger but both one bathroom and same perks For a short cruise, save your money for spec dining -
More Pricing Shenanigans
Cruise a holic replied to SafetyHarbor's topic in Royal Caribbean International
Yes I agree. So many games! Hopefully you can reinstate you UDP. Call corporate if you must. Such nonsense! We are all anxious to cruise, and some people have unlimited funds and do not mind the increases. -
Oasis of the Seas Grand Suite 1 bedroom
Cruise a holic replied to Bot230's topic in Royal Caribbean International
Note this is one big room with a curtain separating the bed portion and couch portion of the room. Not a true bedroom. -
We love the UDP. Note sometimes only a limited amount of this package is available per cruise- if you want it book it. You can always cancel. Since we do not eat in MDR not sure about lobster issue. But why eat in MDR if you have access to Specialty dining restaurants?

My husband's favorite drink is Long Island Iced Tea. I enjoy a french Martini but recently tried a coconut Martini and it is wonderful.

Memorial Day Sale? Anyone seeing deals?
Cruise a holic replied to happy cruzer's topic in Royal Caribbean International
Agree. Prices have increased so much this "sale" isn't viable. -
The offical dress code is published . However, men at night wear long pants with polo or collard shirts- no shorts unless you are a young child. Ladies casual dresses or slacks with tops. Formal nights we wear cocktail attire. Some people spend all of their time in the casino and never dress- they also eat dinner at the buffets. We enjoy celebrating our cruise- lived in sweats for almost three years time for new clothes (that fit!)

Here's why someone on NCL told me to not cruise on Celebrity
Cruise a holic replied to Sigyn's topic in Celebrity Cruises
Having sailed a few times on NCL, unless you are in the Haven a horrible crowded and poorly laid out ships. The pool deck had people laying on towels on the floor and they had no main theatre- so many games and activities were held in the small center of the ship. Food was a true disappointment. I only liked the Jazz club when leaving the Haven. SP restaurants tasted like the olive garden- Also the crowd was diverse, as with celebrity. -
Should we book a Massage before sailing?
Cruise a holic replied to DLWood's topic in Celebrity Cruises
You can cancel a massage once on board with 24 hours notice- so if cheaper- book and rebook. -
Luminae is only for suite guests. Depending on the ship- some concierge class guests can dine in the MDR on boarding day.
-
Since you dine in luminae, blu IMO not nearly as good. More comfortable in Luminae and the food better. But we also enjoy dining in specialty restaurants during our cruise- and miss some dinners in luminae.

APEX/Beyond best place for pre-dinner drinks?
Cruise a holic replied to tinaincc's topic in Celebrity Cruises
Martini bar. Fun to watch the "show" that the bartenders put on. Lots of comfortable seating in the bar area- music and dancing also available often. The heart of the ship. -
No plastic covers on her furniture? A person like that shouldn't travel. lol

Choose your Own or Let Royal pick stateroom?
Cruise a holic replied to JanNSteH's topic in Royal Caribbean International
We have always booked the location of our cabin or suite. Sometimes you get what you get and we wouldn't be happy with a location under the gym or above the theatre- so for us, to save a few dollars not worth it. Also since more people are now sailing and the ships are pretty full, you are unlikely to get a great stateroom or suite with a guarantee. It would ruin my trip if the location of the stateroom was poor. Not worth it for us. We like to relax in our stateroom- IMO more then a place to sleep and shower.
