  1. How over dramatic can one be? Left to fend for myself is intolerable! Oh My! The thought of doing this is very disturbing and a flight home! Oh My! Please show some semblance of reality. The reality is,,, people travel to international countries where they don't speak the language every day. The reality is,,,, people are transferred from cruise ships to local hospital on a daily basis. If this is such a basic concern, then maybe traveling the world is not for you. International travel can be exciting. However, you have to have backup plans and be able to adapt and overcome some situations at a moment's notice.
  2. If your friends are jumping off a bridge, does that mean you get to jump also? Ya'll sound like a bunch of teenagers. I'm waiting for the "It's not fair!!!" crowd. If Carnival makes a change, they'll let you know.
  3. I’m curious why you didn’t just file a claim on your travel insurance for the loss of your non refundable costs?
  4. I cover each trip individually. Since I live in Washington State, I can’t buy GeoBlue Annual and the other annual policies don’t fit me very well.
  5. Interesting. Never heard of such a thing. Ive always just palmed the cash, shook hands with the recipient, and expressed my thanks
  6. A “Must”? Absolutely not. If it’s in the budget, go for it. If it’s not in the budget, or even causes you to second guess yourself, go with an inside and never look back. just enjoy your time away
  7. That’s interesting. I can see where TriCare would not be considered insurance. I receive my healthcare thru the VA. I would imagine that the VA is not considered a “Primary” insurance. As a backup, I do have a Medicare Advantage plan thru United Healthcare. I wonder if that’s considered a “Primary” insurance for the purposes you mention. Maybe Steve will see this and can share his expertise.
  8. The warning on using this strategy is that all insurances sold in the US is regulated by each individual State. My State allows this strategy and still receive a waiver for pre-existing conditions. Many policies and States agree that all non refundable trip costs need to be included in the total trip cost to include a pre-existing condition waiver. Interestingly, in my State, I cannot buy the GeoBlue Annual policies.
  9. As 6 says. Each airline issues it's own PNR. If you bought your ticket from AA (it has a PNR code) but the actual airplane you are flying on is a BA flight,,, it will have a separate PNR code. When I do this when I book thru Alaska Airlines, my itinerary that I print out will show both PNR codes (in small print). The AS PNR code and the BA PNR code.
  10. They won't pay for the reason you cite. However, the Royal policy does include Cancel For Any Reason rider. That rider allows one to cancel for "Any" reason up to scheduled departure date and time and receive a future cruise credit for 90% of paid value.
  11. cruise line policies with CFAR allow you to cancel up to scheduled departure time. 3rd party policies require additional money for CFAR and you must cancel 24 to 48 hours before "trip" departure. So, in this instance, had they had a Travelguard or TravelSafe, the CFAR would not have covered them.
  12. The reason you are receiving a future cruise credit is because the insurance you bought includes a “Cancel For Any Reason” rider. The insurance plan sucks in all actuality except for the CFAR provision. If you lived in NY, you couldn’t buy the Royal insurance plan.
  13. Will be spending a week in London pre-cruise next year and considering a day trip to Paris via Eurostar. My only interest in visiting Paris is 1) to say I've been there 2) to see the Eiffel Tower 3) boat trip on the Seine 4) Lunch/Dinner on Champs- Elysees. Yes? No? Maybe? What am I missing or not thought about that might change my mind?
  14. Back in the day, the package worked well for us. Now?? That's why I'm coming to you. 1st of all we're both Diamond. If I'm correct, that's 5 drinks a day each right there. 2nd, we're booked in a GS and we enjoy the Concierge Lounge. We usually only go there pre-dinner for a couple of drinks. Unless I'm mistaken, there is no charge for these drinks in the Concierge Lounge. (unless we request something really special and different). Plus we can get bottles of water from the lounge. Even with the CL access, we only have 3 to 5 drinks per day plus a couple of specialty coffee's each day. Maybe a glass of wine at dinner. With all that said,,, what drink package makes sense to you?
  15. My first question is that you say son. At least 1 person from the original reservation must go. I question you about son because of the age requirement. Since you ask if hubby can go with son in lieu of grandma,,,, the answer is maybe/probably/I hope so.
  16. I can only tell you what I've done and the resources I've used. Went to a local book store (Barnes and Noble) and bought city maps of the towns were are staying in. They were posted all over my home office. Then I got sticky notes and labeled points of interest.. Then I started researching ports of call here on cruise critic. Then I would use the search bar on YouTube and bring up videos of interest. Then I also used the heck out of Google to search for private tour companies or just to research ports of call or things we might be interested in. I even used Vrbo and Airbnb to search for apartments or condos rather than hotels. I then broke everything down in a Word document in chronological order with links to websites or videos. Then Covid hit and all of my research and dreams went to hell.... But, we've started over for a 2023 October European land and cruise tour
  17. Yes They've been in business for 100 years. If you're quietly asking about experience working with them? Then 100% of the people who properly file a claim for a covered reason are extremely happy. On the other hand, people who have filed a claim not knowing that what they are claiming is not for a covered reason will say that AIG sucks and they will never do business with them again.
  18. What exactly is it that you want to insure? I'm only asking because I'm not sure what monetary losses will you try to recover from this insurance. I'm making the assumption that you already have some sort of medical insurance that covers you worldwide as a "Digital Nomad". As we all know, medical costs can be the ball buster in this whole scheme. I'm also assuming that as a digital nomad, that should you have to lose the cost of the cruise ($5K or so) this might sting a little, but can be absorbed.
  19. Personally, I buy a full coverage travel insurance policy, but, I only insure the trip cost at $500 per person. Like you, I can survive should I have to cancel the trip and lose out on any pre-paid costs. By doing this, I get the full primary medical of $100K, evac of $250K, along with (since I live in Washington State) waiver for pre-existing conditions. All this for $35pp per trip. Since the trip cost was $500 per person, that also gives me the small benefit of Trip Delay, etc in case of missed or cancelled flight enroute. Along with any other coverages I may have with CSR.
  20. Yes I have received it multiple times. Yes, my bid was accepted 1 time.
  21. After spending many years on CruiseCritic (since the AOL chat room days), my limited experience tells me there are about 5% GREAT travel agents. The rest are hit and miss. Some with good intentions to most being clueless other than making a sale and getting that commission. They might be good on Disney World but haven't a clue about the cruising world. The biggest problem I have are the ones who make great commission on Travel Insurance but don't have the first clue about the limitations of what they are selling. Let alone, being there to help if something goes TU in your travels.
  22. Looking for suggestions/recommendations for private/semi-private tours/excursion companies for this port stop.
